Stuliasz Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 From Football365: (Link) BIG GUNS CHASE £50M PREM TITLE PRIZE Chelsea, Manchester United and their rivals will be playing for a £50million pay day when they set out in pursuit of the 2007/08 Premiership title in August this year, thanks to the revenue agreed in a new global television contract. Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has detailed the riches available to the winners - and losers - in English football's championship from next year onwards. They represent an increase of almost £20 million for the top club, on the prize scooped by current champions Chelsea for their success last year. Scudamore told the Daily Telegraph: "This deal really does take us on to another level. "It means that the team at the top - who got £30million last year - will get around £50million, while even those at the bottom will receive about £30million." That near equality of remuneration is possible because of the new £625million deal negotiated by Scudamore, adding to the huge pot already generated by existing domestic broadcast and internet contracts. Link Another deal that takes English football a further step out of financial control. Caps need to be introduced and introduced soon.
filbertway Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 And the premier league takes another step away from the rest of football.
Daggers Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 And the premier league takes another step away from the rest of football. ...and football takes another step away from us
Floating Fox Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 What a joke. The Death of Football takes an Ugly Twist.
Magictv Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 Crap, but it doesn't really come as much of a suprise sadly .
Stevosevic Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 if we were in the premiership, everyone on here would be pleased. we will benefit soon!
vanfox12 Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 if we were in the premiership, everyone on here would be pleased. we will benefit soon! True we moan about the greedy premiership but when push comes to shove we're no better than the rest of them. The fact that some fans would stop supporting City if we got relegated from the Championship says it all really.

Simi Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 i wouldnt tbh i think for the best of english football the extra money would be better being split from the championship downwards Whether the money comes from winning the league or not. They will gain it all in sponsorship etc anyway.
filbertway Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 If they're getting extra money they should in theory use it on wages so ticket prices don't need to be so high, highly unlikely they will.
lildave3 Posted 18 January 2007 Posted 18 January 2007 Good article from the bbc on this new deal: Link
Phube Posted 19 January 2007 Posted 19 January 2007 The money's fine, it what they use it for that isn't... Just to give an average player £50-60,000 a week. It should go so that ticket prices are cheaper!!!
tewkesbury-fox Posted 20 January 2007 Posted 20 January 2007 "The extra income from the deal means even the team finishing bottom will claim about £26m. " Brief insert from one of the papers highlighting the new deal from next season As its unlikely that we will finish in the top 6 this season, the payments that teams will get on being relegated next season will undoubtly give teams a huge advantage over us next season even with some investment if the MM deal goes through,as the division is allready one of the hardest to get promoted from how do you feel that city and other teams in the division can compete against such mind boggling sums of money, for lets face it failure, are we going to end up with a 3 tier system like the premiership ?

Milky Posted 20 January 2007 Posted 20 January 2007 Considering we're 4 points off relegation i'm still hoping for championship football let alone the prem. Considering the mess we've got ourselves into, and despite the fact mandaric is on the horizon, the prem still seems like a very very distant dream to me.

If it had been this season Watford could have bought us on being relegated
