I dont quite know what to do with myself as I have just witnessed England beat the Aussies for the first time on this tour.

COME ON ENGLAND! A BONUS POINT TO BOOT!!

The Endless other defeats before kind of take the shine off it, and Ricky Ponting wasn't playing.

I think its a really positive day. Im not suggesting that we are now the best in the world but slowly slowly we are improving and the team is finding the correct slots for there players. Ed Joyce opening the batting has worked as and to a lesser extent so has Mal Loyes pinch-hitting in addition to Plunketts form with the ball. Adding to that is that James Anderson is the best bowler in this series statistically and more impressively, that todays win didnt include either Pietersen, Vaughan, Anderson, Collingwood or Lewis (who has been bowling well) or the troubled Tresco and departing Harmison and Hoggard, I think we are looking better.

Poss team for WC and back-ups in brackets - I think you can only take 15 for WC squad

JOYCE

LOYE (TRESCOTHICK)

BELL

PIETERSEN

VAUGHAN (STRAUSS)

FLINTOFF

DARLYMPLE

JONES (WK) (NIXON)

PLUNKETT

ANDERSON (MAHMOOD)

PANESAAR

We are still shit.

We won't win the World Cup and never will until there is a general refocus on the one day game.

It was only a matter of days ago that we were embarrased by New Zealand!

We are still $hit and will do well to progress through to the KO stages.

So far as the team is concerned I'd be surprised if Loye and Dalrymple have done enough to merit selection but might be in the squad. On the pitches in WI its unlikely that 2 spinners will feature. Collingwood will play. He has been total $hite since he made his big score in the tests but might do better again in WI conditions. If Jones ever wears the 3 lions again someone should pay the ultimate price. Lewis (or Gough) will get in ahead of Plunkett surprise nomination: ramprakash

so what if ponting wasn't playing, we're without our best batsmen KP.

YEAH!

Just watching the highlights now. Jezus if you said i'd be watching Cricket or even be the slightest bit intrested in Cricket before christmas i'd have laughed in your face...It not bad game now! lol Still not an amazing game, but I like playing the game and don't mind watching it.

I'm half tempted to e-mail people in Australia that I know, but I know that they will still just laugh and take the piss. IF we get to the final and win, I think that is when I start the e-mails!

Edit - HAHAHAHA Gilchrist gone on his first ball! 0-1. Awesome!

you've got to wonder if Australia were really trying that hard. they've already qualified and i bet the crowds would be better v's england.

Yeah but no matter how bad Australia were/trying to be/not trying at all, England have been shite in 9 games, and England were playing pretty good, Its one thing Australia not trying, England playing well and make it count is another!

Yay! We won.

However, one swallow does not a summer make.

Which actually means jack shit when you think about it. So I'll rephrase.

Yay! We won. But we're still a crap one day side.

crap yes, but all it takes is one game in the world cup. you never know.

It'll take more than one game.

First, we have to get out of our intial group of New Zealand, Kenya and Canada. Then we have to go into another group and play 3 good teams. Then we have to win a semi final. Then a final.

Ain't happening.

We didn't 'finally scrape a win at last' or anything, we gave them a kicking.

It's a bit late, but hopefully we can go to the World Cup with a bit of confidence.

Oh and why was Bopara so low down the order?

Fookin' quality win this was. Couldn't believe what I was seeing when I woke up and saw it. Shame it has taken us so long to get ourselves into gear though.

Hopefully we can take a lot of confidence from the performance and win, and push on from here. :)
