My predicament

Recommended Posts

Posted

Basically out on a night out at the students union last night. I got absolutely wasted and when bouncers tried to throw me out I struggled. They then all forced me to the floor, obviously this made me very angry and somewhat abbusive  .

Then they duck taped my hands behind my back and rang the police. When the police came they basically gave me a telling off for getting out of hand and let me go home. Today I'm limping around due to a bouncers tactically placed kick on my leg and feeling quite ashamed :( .

Obviously I don't want to be banned from the union, should I go back tommorow and appologise or just leave it and hope they forget. Obviously a bit more than a normal thorwing out.

Advice appreciated!

Apologise. Too many people today will not take responsibility for their own behaviour. It takes a man to apologise and a coward to hope things go away. If your apology is ignored then at least you've done all you can to put things right.

The bouncers had no right to hold you and to duck tape your arms. Whatever you did, two wrongs do not make a right.

Simple go with your natural feelings which from your statement is to apologise.

u could threaten them with assault and ABH charges is u dont get your own way as bouncers are not allowed to use violence you could also sue for wrongful imprisonment and the defamation of character amongst a few things.

make em flap if u dont get your own way

The law might say that but the law is rarely around when people are "wasted" and behaving in a loutish, disrespectful, and disorderly manner.

He should apoligise and take responsibility for causing so much annoyance.

I sort of agree, bouncers and security staff will usually take no chances against drunk people, believe me I have been on recieving end from many bouncers some my own fault!! If you feel that you have behaved badly, then there's is nothing wrong in apologising!!

For years bouncers use there position to abuse and ducktaping someone is totally off (what sort of bouncers cant restrain one dude??) and Im sure they took advantage of your drunkness and slung a knee your way for good measure. They probably had a joke about it after the event too!

I`d grab a few mates and a baseball bat and just wait for the them and give them a hiding, demanding an apology. Karma would then be served :D

I'd go and appolgise if I were but I doubt they'll let you back in this year at least, the only reason you stand any chance of being allowed back in is because it's the Union any other pub would have you banned for life, if it were me I wouldn't have you anywhere near the place TBH.

If all else fails try this.

I think you should apologise - it will certainly act in your favour if you do so.

Certainly they will remember your face, and probably will not let you in next time.

You have nowt to lose....

You should buy each and every single bouncer a bunch of flowers, maybe even give it to them on Valentine's Day.

From the way you're talking, all apologetically, it seems that maybe the bouncers had some reason to ask you to leave (although some bouncers can be utter c*nts). You're not the first person to kick off, but you may be one of the few who actually genuinely apologises and feels a proper sense of remorse.

They can't detain you. That's the point. It's false imprisonment. If the bouncers wanted to take it further, they would find that a good solicitor would have you off the hook.

they can detain - you, ever heard of a citizens arrest? also please try and define reasonable force?? tricky??

i presume only a rookie solicitor will touch the case, a drunk man, many bouncers cctv and a student paying the solicitor via legal aid....hmm!!

Yes, we all know that good solicitors can make a mockery of anyone trying to keep places safe and sound for people who just want to enjoy themselves.

And it is exactly that sort of nonsense that encourages people to be ever more anti-social.

Injustice is one thing. Effectively strengthening the hand of pissheads in their loutish behaviour is quite another.

The guy should apologise and take responsibility for his actions.

Bouncers are now called door supervisors. They should have a valid SIA license. They are allowed to use reasonable force in order to detain a person and prevent them from causing harm to themselves the doormen or members of the public.

Basically if diplomacy fails they will use excess force if necessary. In their incident report they will put 'Member of public refused to be calm and had to be restrained to prevent injury to himself and members of the public who were close by.'

If the bouncers did not have a license then there are grounds for complaint otherwise an apology would be best. Doormen are only human (but lower down the scale to good old security officers) and may be approachable if you wish to apologise. Laugh and joke if you like but just say sorry that you caused them so much hassle. The roles and requirements of doormen and security officers are different as are the licenses.

I cannot say for sure what amont of force they are allowed to use but I do know that the license should reduce the number of incidents where the old fashioned bouncer beat up the public for no or little reason. If any are found to be guilty of this they would lose the license and would not be able to obtain work doing the same thing legally.

PS. One of the jobs I'm awaiting application form is from a company that do security for Leicester College or University. I hope all the troublemakers have been filtered out if I get the job. Part of the job may include looking out for potential troublemakers, pushers, drunks and people of Foxestalk at Uni disco's that are not nice to me. :D

I do hate it when people try to be clever when they clearly haven't got a clue....

Yes I have heard of a citizen's arrest. It comes with a number of caveats. You cannot detain someone for mouthing off whilst drunk. It has to be for an indictable offence. You also have to tell the person that you are arresting them. Unlike the police, there's no script, but you still have to tell them.

As for using reasonable force, if you think taping someone's arms and injuring someone is reasonable, I sincerely hope that it happens to you one day. And I sincerely hope that there is no "rookie solicitor" there to help you. I'm sure you will 'take what's coming' on the chin, eh.

No-one's condoning what this lad has done, but bouncers should be accountable for their actions. They are not there to dish out justice as they see fit, and they should not be allowed to stick the knee in and detain people in this way. Society would be a lot less anti-social if the correct authorities did their job, and not any old bloke on the street, even if he's a paid 'thug'.

I cant believe some replies on here

What the bouncers done to you was bang out of order. They abuse whatever power they think they have. They tried to kick you out, but failed. I assume there was more than one bouncer, infact it sounds like there were 3. Why couldnt 3 bouncers escort a wasted young man out of the door? They were looking to make a scene out of it, as always. Dont blame yourself... Im with Allen.

They might take offence :P

I'd say... apologise as this seems to be what you feel is right.
