Louise Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 Benjamin Contract Cancelled Leicester City have today cancelled the contract of striker Trevor Benjamin by mutual consent. Benjamin joined Northampton Town on loan at the turn of the year after failing to secure a regular first team berth under new Leicester boss Craig Levein. And the club have now come to an agreement with the 25-year-old forward which ends his four-and-a-half year affiliation with the Foxes. Benjamin was in the last year of his Leicester contract, having signed a five-year deal when he originally joined the club under Peter Taylor in 2000. The Kettering-born striker will probably be best remembered by Leicester fans for his fine scoring run at the end of the 2002-03 campaign - bagging seven goals in 14 appearances to help the Foxes to promotion. Benjamin has scored two goals in four starts since joining the Cobblers. http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsD...~615365,00.html

Matt Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 Well we all knew he had no future left here but for one last time; "OH TREVOR TREVOR, TREVOR TREVOR TREVOR TREVOR BENJAMIN!" Shame, at least he tried and actually cares for the club along with Tiatto, unlike some/most of our overpayed(I know benji was overpayed but that was no thanks to PT) , overrated players we have playing for us who think they are better than they actually are! Bye, Bye Benji, I'll never forget what you did for us 2 years ago!
Louise Posted 19 January 2005 Author Posted 19 January 2005 Well, that depends on how much 'mutual consent' cost.
davieG Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 Well, that depends on how much 'mutual consent' cost. 56315 Quite a lot I would imagine
Guest Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 He may not have been the most gifted player, but he ran his heart out, and scared a fair few defenders in the process.
dan_84 Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 He may not have been the most gifted player, but he ran his heart out, and scared a fair few defenders in the process. So did Ade Akinbye!!
Vardinhio Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 I will mainly remember him for the way he helped set up Brian Deanes goal away at Sheff Utd in the promo season. He ran down the left wing and sure enough elbowed 2 defenders and left them for dead on the floor. Brian Deane ran away celebrating whilst two physios were on the pitch to clear up Benji's mess Good luck matey. you always did your best
BartonFox Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 While I will never question his attitude lets not get all teary-eyed about Clarence. He has bled this Club out of the best part of 3.5 million over his stay. Now he asked for and got given 15k a week by that tool Taylor............. BUT, come on. He was without one of the worst professional footballers ever to play for Leicester City and he sponged 3.5m out of our Club. I for one am glad he has gone, and come the summer Walker, Scowcroft and Elliott (only after his 5 year 32k a week Taylor contract) will be gone and the sorriest episode in this Clubs history will be over.

Elliott won us a cup...... 2 goals in that match remember???? How do you know what money there on after they came out of admin, the origianl contracts were with another company.!

Utter bollocks, no player would ever stay at a club if their contracts were vastly reduced when the club went in to admin. They deferred some of their wages in 02/03 but they got that back. I think perhaps you need to do some research mate.

How do you know what money there on after they came out of admin, the origianl contracts were with another company.! 56332 Oh sweet Mother Mary, where to begin. Benji might of given his best but he was utter tripe, he was not good enough to play for this Club and he got 3.5m out of us!!!!!!! You seem to think that is acceptable????? I have never questioned Matt Elliott thats why in brackets I put ONLY AFTER HIS 5 YEAR 32k A WEEK TAYLOR CONTRACT. During that contract he has had the best part of 8 million off us and to be honest he hasn't really earned it has he? Yes he scored in the League Cup final but that was pre Taylor. By the summer we will have no dregs of the Taylorban/Bassett/Adams regime left and at last we might start to drag ourselves back out of the mire. As for the contracts, well the only people who lost out were the creditors, you see players contracts are protected by the PFA so they never lost out on their fat contracts.
Guest Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 To be fair though, how many people would turn down stupid amounts of money if somebody was prepared to pay it to them? Be honest!! Morally, the likes of Benji et al should be condemned for fleecing the club and its supporters, but I don't blame them for taking the money. I blame the idiot who offered or agreed to the contract in the first place.
filbertway Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 I thought we kind of new this anyway. I thought that leicester and northampton agreed a deal to pay off his wages

But then Andy D'Urso and his BAJILLION MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME!! Grrrrrr

I bet half of us could control and pass the ball better than him and we'll never make it as professional footballers. He was a poor player indeed and no amount of effort could take that fact away. That said, his attitude and effort was always good, although it should be with the amount of money he was being paid!
Jonbluefox9 Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 I'm forgetting his wage salary now because it wasn't his fault he was offered so much and no-one can blame him for accepting that contract. He's a good man, always had time for the fans and managed to grab us some quite important and impressive goals during our promotion season. I hope he does well in the future whether he stays on at Northampton or moves to another team. Yes he was poor but he put in 100% effort and most of our current players struggle to do that.

I haven't seen it for a while but at the time I remember thinking 'Now we're taking the p*ss!' I was at the other end though so it might not have been that impressive?! It was along time ago, at least it feels like a long time ago anyway.
Scow Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 I agree with Barton - He was/is a shocking player, but you could never question his application and work rate. His physical presence ensured he was a nuisance to defenders, but his general all round play was nothing short of embarrassing. I wish him well - League 2 is his level, he should be an asset for Northampton.

Who ate all the pies? Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 I saw him play for Northampton against Darlington on Saturday (one of my mates is a Darlo fan and drags me to a game every so often!), and he was totally outclassed! He had no touch and woeful finishing...still I'll miss the useless b#*$#@d! Good luck Trev...just don't comeback
