You said "we need to recognise that a significant part of the problem involves the black community" and called it black on black gun crime. I offered that the problem is gun crime alone with a number of measurable indicators from a structured survey. I don't get you personalised response at all

To me this came across as tinted with an accusation. But I apologise if I'm wrong. And I completely agree that being black does not predispose you to killing someone. It would be absurd and dangerous to think otherwise. I'm at the risk of repeating myself so I won't regurgitate my arguments. Bringing it back to the original post have there been any further developments?

The guy who was arrested has been release on bail, which is fooking stupid when it's an attempted murder charge! The victims name was given out on the news tonight which is so disappointing when the family had asked for it to be kept out of the media, and the message has sort of been going around campus that people should respect the family's wishes and not tell the media anything. A lot of rumours going around campus, I've heard so much stuff from people who work as bouncers at the Union, but I don't want to post that here since the media hasn't got any of that, and I don't know what's actually true and what isn't. The one thing that does seem constant in everyone's stories though is that the gun wasn't taken into the building at the start of the night. Fighting kicked off, people went outside and came back in with a gun(s) The university have said they're reviewing the way events are held at the union, which I think is going to mean no entry for non-students from now on. Horrible stuff and I can't believe they've even let the guy out on bail.

Monk Posted 13 March 2007 Posted 13 March 2007 I graduated from Lufbra in 2005, very sad to see this happen. I have a good friend who is a union exec and heard all about what happened. Its awful news for the unia s well at a time when all the kids are doing applications. The outcome is simple - Union events will be student only from now on. I have never known anything worse than a fight in a student only atmosphere, and even then only saw a couple in my entire 4 year degree.
