I haven't been 'properly' out and about in Leicester for a while and have lost track of where's best to go for an evening out. We don't fancy spending hours trailing round town trying to peep through doorways to get a feel for various places (tend to look very dodgy doing this anyway!) so just trying to use the local knowledge you guys no doubt have! I know various people in/around Leicester but would appreicate some unbiased recommendations. Here's the deal... will be in Leicester with some (girlie)friends for a weekend of drinking and chilling out. Ideas much appreciated re places to go in the city centre for: a) chilled out 'warm up' drinks, late afternoon/early evening - I'm thinking comfy leather sofas, free newspapers, that kinda thing. b) meal (used to like The Case - is it still there?) or somewhere similar - nothing ridiculously fancy but a tad above McD's! Maybe Italian?! c) late bar/club (nothing too cheesy, e.g. not Krystals or Zoots as it used to be - guess I'm showing my age!) - somewhere fairly chilled out/mellow but preferably not stuffed to the gills with 20 year old students - Indie leanings are fine but would like to be able to walk out without being stoned out of my skull on other peoples' illegal substances! A good range of vodka would help too! Over to you...!

Zingari Posted 13 March 2007 Posted 13 March 2007 i have not ventured into the town centre for a while but here is a few suggestions; i hear the views along the canal are stunning this time of year a] lipton's tea rooms for a ladiees tea b] holmes cafe , under the corn exchange arches for a ladiees meal ; you may then like to take in a film at the excellent Cameo or Gaumont cinema c] the eclipse or fountain pub for a white wine or fruit based soft drink and then off to the palace theatre for a ladiees show oh and the swan and rushes for some satdy footy and foxestalk banter

Good wine list also. b) Italian: (Depends on your price range) High: San Carlos (lovely food, but slimy waiters especially with a group of girls). Mid: Ask down siler street solid pissz/pasta menu. Low: Bella italia/pizza hut: both okay! c) Revolution Vodka bar (full and busy) but has 40 vodkas to try!! Or The Landsdowne on London road... Indie-ish (hell, Serge from Kasabian was there New Year's Eve!!) Good cocktails!! If you're a girl of course!! BTW the best food in Leicester is Watsons restaurant, by the Phoenix Arts Centre. But it's not too cheap!

It was called Caspers then though-used to go down there with Gary Mac and a few of the other players.

fox123 Posted 14 March 2007 Posted 14 March 2007 Ever been to Lallie Bella on queen street? Really smart bar, from a converted warehouse, does nice food and has a patio area with heat lamps. Age range is around 25-35, theres no 'chavs' in there, everyones really friendly, would highly recomend as a starting place, if your going 'clubbing Original 4 is a pretty good place to go - 4 floors (diferent music on each) again no chavs here!
