the rebuilding and the 3 year plan

Just one thing about the academy whom I must be honest I dont go and see play like some on here. That cant be ready for the first team or cant be that good surely??? I know they have done well at that level but many have come through the academy in recent years and none have been stand-out players. You would have thought that the manager would have played them if they were good enough. I cant see what the point is in simply leaving wonderkids in amongst academy football if they are ready for first team action.

Why should Kelly's judgement on whether they are ready be any better than his judgement on people like Low, Sylla, Welsh, Brevett, Johnson, Kenton, Yeates, Glombard, Jarrett, Cadamarteri or even, I suspect, Newton?.

The truth is they are probably not quite ready. They need to be introduced gradually, starting with 20 minutes or half an hour to help them acclimatise. Porter managed it and people like Dodds are just as good inn their particular field and a far better bet than most of the names in that list above who have all somehow managed to appear in a City shirt.

Does no-one find it insulting that someone like Glombard - who has done sod all - should have actually been chosen to wear the shirt yet someone like Dodds with over 60 goals in three season - and with years of development behind him within City's Academy, has not had a single chance.

Great for team spirit that sort of approach!

See this is where I cant understand the arguement. We almost talk about the academy as being a side that has no link with the first team. Surely thats not what happens?? Surely the kids train with the first team at times or at least some individuals do? Surely RK goes and watches the academy games? Surely he speaks to his coaches and especially Beaglehole on the development of these kids?#

Sometimes people make it sound like RK just doesnt want to play them despite them being ready when the facts are they obviously are not because the ones who have been like Weso, Stearman, Logan, Levi and COG have featured in the last year.

He used to be a youth coach and he's shown through Porter, Logan Stearman and Weso that he's willing to give them a go if their old enough.

Also in his defense he's binned Low, he's binned Sylla (and Syall didn't really play that badly under Kelly either most of his shockers were when Levein was in charge) he binned Glombard, low and Brevett (who I don't quite know how you can critisize seeing as he was bought in as COVER and hardly ever played, a bit like Kenton) again Cadamateri has hardly been playing every game has he and is only here till the end of the season. Not the end of the world is it? I personally don't think Yeates has had a fair crack at the whip yet he's looked ok in patches and hasn't been here long. Also loving you views on Newton, one good game against Leeds and he's a good signing, one bad game against QPR and he's the next Josh Low

Kelly is very rarely at the Academy matches. They are mostly played on a Saturday morning when he's preparing the first team although doubtless he's kept informed.

Kelly has other things to consider in his team selections than just who might be playing best at least that's how it seems to me at times.

Senior professionals on high salaries are always going to have the edge over lower paid teenagers who can more easily be overlooked, at least for a while.

Directors don't like seeing big money going out on people who don't play and seeing their market value slumping as a result.

Hume isn't actually that great a player you know. Its just our squad is so poor he stands out so much, i doubt he would get into the WBA or Brum starting line up.

Unfortunately I see this as way too optimistic and Milan must surely know this isn't going to be achieved. If he had said 5 year plan, I'd have been more inclined to agree with him. However I think he's said something he'll struggle very much to deliver.

I hope I am proven wrong, yet I just can't see it somehow. I may change my mind when I see how he conducts his close-season dealings behind-the-scenes.

How can you see them if they are behind the scenes :dunno::P

So many people pick up on trivial things on this site!! :angry:lol

Milan is obviously going to have a lot to do with who comes in and who goes out, so if he makes the right choices from behind the scenes at the club, there will obviously be news updates and announcements on the OS or in the papers, on Sky Sports News and the like (not credited to MM), and so I will get to see them that way. Which is what I meant with my original post. :)

It's the collective whole that's the problem not whether individuals came off or got a fair chance.

And the collective whole has been awful.

I only thought that Newton made a promising debut and that his early passes were a Godsend.

It then became plain how unfit he was and how unsuited to doing duties in defence which Kelly quickly introduced him to.

If Kelly wants a winger/come midfielder/come defender rolled into one he needs to see an embyonic expert not an available-for-loaning list. And certainly not the over 30 section.

And if Kelly really has no work for his signings to do there's not much point wasting wages on them, Cadamarteri being a classic example. Ample cover can come from within the club in most cases.

bouba diop, danny murphy, joby macanuff, collins john, james beattie and alan thompson. Everyone write to kelly/mandaric. we would have the best midfield in the history of that division, width, pace, creativity bring it on lads. I have an horrendous feeling that kelly will sign all the players we have currently on loan :( also write to them discoraging that possibility please people. If a vast minority mention the same transfer targets and the same dislikes then someone is bound to take notice surely.

Henderson

maybury kisnorbo macualey johansson

macanuff diop murphy porter ( the best midfield ever to grace the championship)

Beattie Hume

I doubt that very much. Rob Kelly won't be here after the season ends.

Didnt Fulham accept a £5m bid for Diop in January but he decided not to go to Wigan? Also Beattie would cost £1.5m+. Murphy would cost a few quid also and I think we will struggle to get more than one on your list. It`ll be a decent side though thats for sure!

Rebuilding?

We haven't knocked down any walls...no one has started the pointing up...the workmen have been on a tea-break since 2006!

The bricks of Josh Low, COG and Sylla have been knocked down and removed, the building is underway!!

Everyone says it will take more than 3 years etc etc. Look how quickly Derby transformed, yeah they spent a bit of money, and their manager was a big factor, but who to say we can't go up next season, or the season after.

To be fair they spent alot of there money after they managed to somehow get into a decent position. Quite a few of the permanent signings like Jones, Pearson and Teale turned up in January after a good start and still players like Mears and Lupoli are on loan.

Three full years is a very realistic target as we have 3 or 4 potential first teamers already at the club.

...but Josh Low was part of the foundations for the kitchen extension Kelly was building?

I think the building metaphor has stretched too far...:ph34r:

im prayin that the opposition is virtually as poor as us in this division and 3 or 4 good signings will be enough to give us that edge over the rest......ie elliott , izzet and lennon back in the day.aaahhh sweet memories.............................................gah

I almost choked on my food when I read that lol!! I'm not being funny mate, and as much as I'd love to see it, there's no chance of us getting all of those players. For one, Mandaric won't make the funds open to us to bring us all of those players, and so we'd be lucky to get 2 of them.
