Odd choice. Nice guy but as captain? I've never seen him.get 50 in a t20 maybe I missed it. Not convinced he should even be in the side. Lacks application and concentration when batting. Bowling average.

Good luck to him. We will get behind him. Needs to improve hugely imo

Surprising but it might make him play with a little more responsibility. He's 28 now, so got to start showing he can be more consistent.

Hadn't considered Kimber as an option for captaincy. Hope it suits him well.

As a batter he's capable of box office hitting with a strike rate above 150 but he's very inconsistent. 4 50s and a high score of 59* and an average below 20 is poor for someone whose shown enough glimpses of being a proper big hitter with power to spare.

I really hope he can find the consistency this year to offer more match winning knocks.

Does anyone know if they're still doing the free after tea this season for county championship games? And also are they still making us pay for streaming?

Good question. Like to know that. Paying for the stream seemed pathetic for the small amount they claw back.

I thought Jarvis had rowed back on that as an experiment to see if we had significant take-up while Rahane was playing for us. They don't have to provide a stream at all, there will still be radio commentary on the BBC website, but because other counties do it, they feel obliged and maybe there is a little pressure from the ECB to do it for the money they distribute as it promotes the game. I wouldn't personally pay for it unless it was something very negligible like £5 for the year. It's generally not very interesting watching CC cricket from one wonky camera and zero atmosphere.

I know it's one of Jarvis' bugbears, he thinks the ECB should charge a general subscription to all the streams which would then be shared out to the counties. Obviously clubs like Lancashire with huge fanbases, are generating sponsorship revenue through their streams, so are not interested in such things and why would they be.

We're drawing a lot again aren't we

Maybe but he don't arrive until the end of May and when you consider  Hanscomb leaves around the end of August they will only play together  in 3 or 4 matches in the championship

We're still drawing a lot regardless because the bowling isn't up to taking 20 wickets consistently

Still only 24. Certainly got a bit of height in the bowlers with him, Green, Hull, Wood and Wright.

Last season's pace bowlers in the CC, wickets and avg:

Currie 29 at 31

Mike 26 at 35

Holland 14 at 36

Green 11 at 39

Salisbury 10 at 44

Scriven 15 at 58

Wright 2 at 80

Wood 2 at 92

Hull 2 at 182

We could be in trouble if several don't step up massively.

Certainly need a huge improvement that's for sure. Wright will be fine, last season a blip. Mike bowled much better last year, bowls at a good pace, still room to improve! Of the Others I hope Hull can get a good run and really improve, also think Scriven is better than those figures.

Unfortunately the rest are either not quick enough or past it tbh. Not sure Salisbury ever found it?

Holland is ok, bit of a plodder. Green (one on loan) is pretty average i think. Although others like him.

Salisbury I assume won't be playing much at all, just seeing out the last year of his contract and helping lads like Tew in the seconds.

Hopefully Wright will be back to getting 35-40 wickets after a proper pre-season. Van Beek will contribute in the matches he plays, but Currie is a miss across all formats. We might lose Hull for some matches, as he has a development contract, ECB gets a say on when he plays.

I would probably go with:

Wright

Van Beek

Mike

Ben Green

As my 4 seam bowlers for the first game, but depends how they all rock up over the friendlies. There will be lots rotation I'm sure. I see Holland playing primarily as a bat and an extra bowler, he's a real bits and pieces player

Scriven has to play. Arguably been our best player across all formats over the last few seasons

Bar the injury, he was really beginning to find his stride in Wright's absence.
