The likelihood of Julio Baptista remaining at Arsenal on a long-term basis looks to be in doubt after the Brazilian's impassioned criticism of the English game.

Baptista has largely failed to impress in North London since joining on loan from Real Madrid - aside from a four-goal haul in a Carling Cup game at Anfield - and Arsene Wenger is expected to make a decision over a permanent move for the forward at the end of the month.

Whilst the man nicknamed 'The Beast' has refused to rule out staying at Emirates Stadium, he has savaged the English weather and criticised the quality of the Premiership after struggling to adapt since his summer move.

"The teams from the north of England are terrible," said Baptista in The Times.

"When we play them I have counted their centre-backs booting up to 30 long balls upfield per game.

"The weather over here is killing me. We'll get one day of sunshine for every 30 days of rain, and it is driving me to despair.

"My girlfriend and my mother are frightened about not seeing the sun in England. They miss being in Madrid.

"Premiership football is very hard. I am Brazilian and I enjoy playing the ball, making clever touches and taking bicycle kicks. Arsene Wenger does not forbid me from doing them, but the game is so fast I don't even have time to think about them.

"The moment you stop to think, someone has taken the ball off you and knocked you to the ground. Over here they value a corner kick more than a fancy flick.

"I am lucky to be with Arsenal, as they are a team that likes to play proper football."

Baptista's future is also dependent on whether Real Madrid opt to sign Jose Antonio Reyes on a permanent basis, and the Brazilian admits that he is currently in the dark over where he will be playing his football next season.

"I could stay at Arsenal, but right now I can't see myself anywhere for definite," Baptista added.

"But it's clear in my mind that I would tackle my second chance with Real with far more strength and maturity than I did in my first spell."

Tw@t!!!!!! :angry::mad::@

He speaks the truth to be fair, team like Bolton and Boro do like to lump it up the field. And we do prefere a corner kick to a fancy flick, cornor kicks actually occasionally result in goals.

And you can't exactly say he's wrong about the whether either.

He is over-exagerating like most foreign players who dont do so well over here. I live in North London and the weather has been amazingly good and continues to get weirder and hotter by the month. Baptista is just going OTT because he is looking for excuses for his inability to make a mark on this shores. There is no doubt that Hispanic players and South American players dont like our football as much as they love the heat and the whole environment that countries like Italy and Spain give you and cant get the drinking, swearing culture over here. So many have come and gone without impressing and its largely down to a cultural thing and not just the weather.

The weathers been great for atleast 3 weeks! What did he expect the weather to be like in England at winter? It could have been much much worse as last winter was actually a mild one. :frusty:

Not compared to the average Madrid Winter.

Well he knows what to do at the end of the season. Bleedin' foreigners, always moaning.

My personal favourite bit is when he moans that we get "30 days of rain, to 1 of sun"

I love for him to tell that to the Londoners as they will undoubtably get their annual hosepipe ban again this year!!!

As said Tw@t!!!! I've heard Iraq is hot and sunny this time of year... there's an idea!!

Why is he twat for having his say on the weather in England which he quite rightly points out is shit.

I'd like to see you live in Brazil for a year without complaining about the Humedity.

But I would be correct in my moaning the humidity is high in Brazil!!

But if I was like:

"God it's always 45 degrees and 350% humidity all the time... and that's just a night" I would officially be a twat!!

Basically he's a twat for over-exaggerating and complaing cause he can't score goals against Northern Football teams!!

Any more!!??

Its strange that so many Spanish players are coming over these days and are having no problem settling in. Stranger still is that most are based in the NW of England and the weather isnt anywhere near as good as it is in the South!

Unfortunately, he is just not cut out for game. We all know you have less time on the ball over here so you either need to be physically very strong and able to stand up to the physical side, or you need to have a great first touch to control the ball in an instance.

Sadly, Baptista, despite being big, cannot stand up to the rough and tumble nature, whilst having a pretty poor first touch for an Englishman, let alone a Brazilian. If he wants to blame the weather and Bolton's style of play for his poor performances, then fine.

I'm quite sure he wasn't being totally serious about the 30 days of rain thing Phube! He was underlineing a point, he doesn't like the weather here during the winter! Fair comment neither do I and I'm used to it! It's about his life style nothing to do with football.

And his excuse for not scoreing against Northern football teams is that the games to quick for him, and he is not suited, again fair comment I think!

This is the problem with the written media (especially without smilies!! ) you never know if they're being tongue in cheek or not?? Or wheter he words have been twisted or put out of context....

But finally to sum up my twat point:

"They play 'proper' football", I'm too lazy to run and tackle anyone football!!!

He is a striker to be fair. And if every team played like Arsenal (without the obession of passing the ball into the net) then the game would be much better to watch.

Variety is the spice of life.

If all teams walked the ball into the net, it'd be arse boring.

If some teams' approach the game differently, and the styles clash, it can be more exciting - which style will win the day?

Especially as Arsenal were clearly not up for a game against the Northern teams playing traditional English football. The rough and tumble of Brammall lane on a wet and windy night didn't sit comfortably with the Arsenal players that night, did it? lol

Mega-millions Arsenal versus Bargain-basement Bolton can often be quite amusing. It certainly was over the previous two seasons. lol:thumbup:

No it wouldn't, I don't see how the game of football would be more boring if every team tried to play attacking flowing football.

Who in that Arsenal side cost mega millions.
