willy37 Posted 19 April 2007 Posted 19 April 2007 anyone got any advice/ suggestions on what make or model is any good as i am completly unaware. Im not looking for anything amazing, infact the cheaper the better really!
Unit Posted 19 April 2007 Posted 19 April 2007 whats your price range? I met this bird on holiday who had this amazing samsung for 150quid, really really good.
JoeyB Posted 19 April 2007 Posted 19 April 2007 Samsung are good, if you want a plain simple one if you want one with more techniques go for a cannon powershot! but if you want a proper camera a Nikon one will suit you perfectly!!!
Dr The Singh Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 Samsung are good, if you want a plain simple oneif you want one with more techniques go for a cannon powershot! but if you want a proper camera a Nikon one will suit you perfectly!!! I've had sony, fuji in the past but the canon ixus 65 has been the best, it maynot be as slim etc but the quality etc is superior!!
hairy Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 Make sure you get one with a good battery. We have had three fuji cameras which took AA rechargables or normal. All of them started to eat batteries. Took the most recent one away at Easter and it was getting through 2 AAs a day and its not as though we were using it much. I have been told if you can get one with its own built in rechargable battery its better.
Stuliasz Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 I have always found the Canon Ixus range to be of excellent quality and affordable. I've not had the Ixus 65 as someone else mentioned but I have the Ixus 55 and my parents have the Ixus 35 and I used mine to take hundreds of pics in Oz and they all turned out great.
Zingari Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 currys have got a great deal on a fuji fine pix 6megapixel "10x optical zoom" ( much more important than digital zoom ) at the mo. at £129 its better spec than mine, at less than half the price i paid about 2 years ago
act smiley Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 Canon ones are good, used an Ixus and an A-series one (5 something) and both were really good. Not too pricey either, I dont think
Daggers Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 I just got a W100 after spending a week and a half shopping around. Picked it up for just £170...chuffed.
BMR Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 Great Camera! I bought this a year ago, takes 4aa bateries but runs for ages, around 500 photos on a set of duracells, but visit 7dayshop online for dirt cheap chargers, 1700 rating i use and still get the 500 pics. Camera takes great photos and has an awesome 10x zoom lens! (optical)
Daggers Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 Great Camera! I bet it impresses the girls when you slip that into your trouser pocket.
BMR Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 I bet it impresses the girls when you slip that into your trouser pocket. erm its a babe magnet!
davieG Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 During and after The Match my camera was playing up and it would appear to be well and truly fooked. I've been using an Olympus mju 300 ; 3.2mp / 5 x digital zoom ; with video although I've only used that once. I've had a look on the web for a replacement for around £100 mark and they all look pretty much the same. Has anyone got a recommendation for what might be good or bad. I think I'd prefer rechargeable battery in it other than that something that is an improvement on my current one (£280 about 3 years ago )
James. Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 I found THIS ONE to be more than suitable for my needs. Very easy to use, good amount of megapixels, decent software, blah blah blah.
Phube Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 Any Canon Ixus, they're all good. Mine's the 750! Not sure about the price of them now though!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 I've got a Canon Powershot of some description. It's absolutely huge, I need a smaller one.
Smudge Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 I quite like my Sony Cybershot 5mp and a Zeiss lens; so small and flat that it fits into my shirt pocket. Big drawback is using the LCD as a viewfinder. I find it hard to compose the picture and is really difficult to see in bright sunlight. Nevertheless, I can't fault the image and Photoshop is always available to sort out the composition. edit this site is great for camera reviews

davieG Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 FujiFilm S5600 is what I've got & do my professional work with, It's Pretty good.Depends what you want really Davie I guess that's a big part of my problem! Thanks for the suggestions everyone i'll give them all the once over. Daggers I obviously missed that topic not sure how?
Thracian Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 I was recently given a Nikon Coolpix P2. Being strictly non technical I'm still getting used to all its capabilities but I've tried it out at all sorts of events like the Grand National, Chelsea Flower Show and of course for EBay and am delighted with the results. I honestly wouldn't know one camera from another but my oldest son bought it for me and he's done specialist photography courses and takes the subject quite seriously. He's certain to have done his research. http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=2647
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 Got me a Canon Powershot S3 IS, absolutely beautiful for sport. 6 Megapixes and 12x optical zoom. Has full manual controls and goes up to ISO 800 (although very noisy at this level - but means you can take reasonable pics in low light). Also burst mode for sport pics, and has a video function on it. Was about $700 (£280?) a year ago, probably less now. Took all my football vids with her: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=juno96 And these pics of recent twilight MVFC practice match: http://www.melbournevictory.net/photoplog/index.php?c=1 Uses 4x AA batteries, but has a digital SLR viewer that you can use instead of the LCD display (which rotates and is flexible, handy for awkward angles).
Daggers Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 I just got a W100 after spending a week and a half shopping around. Picked it up for just £170...chuffed. I have to say I have been delighted with mine in the intervening weeks - rugged, light, small and takes great shots. It has a viewfinder for those who don't like using the LCD screen(which I do)...and the screen itself is vieawble on all but the very brightest of days. * 8.1 Megapixels * 3 x Optical Zoom * 6 x Digital Zoom * 15 x Smart Zoom * 6cm Focusing Distance * Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent, Incandescent and Flash White Balance Settings * 2.5" TFT, 115,000 pixels * Auto, Forced Flash, Slow Synchro and No Flash Flash Modes * Memory Stick DUOâ„¢ and Memory Stick Pro DUOâ„¢ with 64MB Internal memory * Lithium N Battery System But - the main benefit to me was that as an owner of Sony phones and a PSP, I have ProDuo memory cards coming out of my ears. I love it.
billabob Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 I guess that's a big part of my problem! Thanks for the suggestions everyone i'll give them all the once over. Daggers I obviously missed that topic not sure how? a late entry but nevermind! I have a Vivitar vivicam x30, 10mp, 3 x optical zoom, really good camera, battery built in, £180, on tesco direct in fact !
Floating Fox Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 Can't beat 10x Optical Zoom (Well you can if Its Greater than that, but you get what im saying)
