milan_foxes Posted 5 June 2007 Posted 5 June 2007 Saints facing wait over Best future Southampton face an anxious wait to see whether Leon Best will commit his future to the club as Leicester and Nottingham Forest lie in wait. The 20-year-old striker, whose goals over the final few weeks of the season helped propel Saints into the play-offs, is out of contract this summer and has so far stalled on signing a new deal. Leicester and Nottingham Forest are reported to be interested in Best, and Saints boss George Burley fears the forward could see his future away from St Mary's. "It would be disappointing if he decides not to sign but it's up to him," said Burley. "We've been in contact with his agent over the past few months and we are close to matching what he has asked for. We've done everything we can but we can't force him to sign. "We've made him several different offers in the last few months and so far he's not accepted them."
milan_foxes Posted 5 June 2007 Posted 5 June 2007 BOLTON RELEASE FOUR Bolton boss Sammy Lee has released four players as he looks to make his own mark on the squad following the shock departure of Sam Allardyce earlier this month. The Trotters have confirmed that Henrik Pedersen, Quinton Fortune, David Thompson and Cesar Martin will all be allowed to leave the club when their existing contracts expire next month.
milan_foxes Posted 5 June 2007 Posted 5 June 2007 Blades cut players free Sheffield United have released four senior players and placed another six on the transfer list following their relegation from the Premiership. Rob Kozluk, Craig Short, Alan Wright and Paul Gerrard have been released, while GEOFF HORSFIELD, Jonathan Forte, Ian Ross, David Sommeil, Mamadou Seck and Li Tie have been placed on the transfer list. Chairman Terry Robinson told the Blades' official website::"We are working on a list that Neil (Warnock) was preparing before he left - a list that, of course, might have been slightly different had we remained in the Premiership. However, at this stage, we see no reason to change it." Youngsters Colin Marrison, Kyle McFadzean, Ryan Gyaki, Dominic Roma, James Ashmore and Sharu Naraji have also been released by the club. Robinson added: "Rob Kozluk has given us tremendous service and it's fair that he has the opportunity to go to another club. "Paul Gerrard, who has been with us on loan, has also been released, and the new manager will decide what cover he wants. "Alan Wright has hardly featured this season and is released, whilst we feel it's perhaps time for David Sommeil, Ian Ross and Jonathan Forte to move on. So we are open to offers. "Li Tie has suffered a lot with injury but he might go back to China on loan - he's a current international but needs more games to help his return to fitness. "Mamadou Seck has never really got past the reserve stage and placing him on the transfer list will give him an opportunity to be looked at by other clubs."

milan_foxes Posted 5 June 2007 Posted 5 June 2007 Charlton Athletic manager Alan Pardew has begun shaping his squad for next season by releasing striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink following one disappointing season at The Valley. Hasselbaink, 35, signed for the Addicks on a free transfer from Middlesbrough last summer. However, after netting just twice in 25 appearances, the veteran striker has been told he is free to leave the Championship-bound club. Meanwhile, Pardew is predicting a summer of change at the club with a number of key players linked with departures and others set for contract discussions. England pair Darren Bent and Luke Young are expected to leave, while the likes of Talal El Karkouri, Matt Holland and Dennis Rommedahl have also been linked with summer exits.
