MBK Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 PLYMOUTH and Leicester both want Colchester striker Jamie Cureton. (Sun)
Head Honcho Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Said it before and I'll say it again he just not Championship class! Last season was a flash in the pan. He did fantastic in a side that was flying high, lets not take that away from him. I just don't see him repeating it for two/three seasons which is the length of contract he'll be looking for.
Moreton Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 PLYMOUTH and Leicester both want Colchester striker Jamie Cureton. (Sun) Depends how much we offer...
MBK Posted 7 June 2007 Author Posted 7 June 2007 Steer clear unless he's £250k or less. Am I correct in thinking that Colchester's midfield was the reason for their good position last year? Anyone can confirm/describe/argue about this?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Hahaha. Not good enough for the Championship. That's a good one. If he's not good enough then Fryatt must be a Conference player.

It's not that he isn't good enough, but when the pressures on he bottles it. He'll be a marked man next season and if he makes a big money move to a bigger club then there will be added pressure that goes with that. I fear he'd disappoint. Not worth the gamble aged 31.
The People's Hero Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Is Halford still at Colchester? If so, I reckon that £650k couldn't be too far off their valuation....

Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Halford's at Reading now mate. As for Cureton, I think you'll find parallels with a certain Marek Saganowski who everyone is currently masturbating furiously over.
Cheese Me Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Ideas above our station on here again. Cureton would be an excellent signing. Who do you expect?

Simi Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Fryatt, Cort, Hume, Cureton, Todarov. We'll be like Birmingham next season with the amount of strikers we've been linked with. (with less quality). 31 does seem a bit of a gamble, had a great season last year though. If we can get him on the cheap though (250k) he may be a decent signing.
Mort Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 We'll be like Birmingham next season with the amount of strikers we've been linked with. (with less quality). So nothing at all like Birmingham then?
mancunianfox Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 How much is Cureton going to offer you. He's 31 and has had a good season but how many more is he going to have. Buying a 31 year old on a free wouldn't be too bad but I can't see Cureton playing as well this season as he will be a marked man. Would not be happy at all if we actually spent money on him.
Kent Fox Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Fryatt, Cort, Hume, Cureton, Todarov. I'd be chuffed with that lot!

Kent Fox Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007    I represent people that might score some goals for us. Some might be getting on a bit but they can still do a decent job for us.

Maybe one of Cureton, Cort and Todorov (hopefully Todorov) but not all three as if we are serious about getting to the prem we need to be thinking in the longer term. The teams that get promoted and stay up are usually the ones that have good younger players. Neither Cort or Cureton could hack the Prem and I'm not convinced that Todorov could either.
The People's Hero Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Went to Reading in January for about £2.5 million. I was miles out on a) Where he was and b) How much he'd cost then? haha!
sotonfox Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 The way I see it, we have just won the FA Academy premiership title....we have bags of potential for the future!! we have just signed this young lad Ricky Sappleton, I don't know anything about him but if what is being said is true, he is another great prospect. What we need is someone who is going to come in and make an immediate impact, not a gamble on someone who might turn out to be a decent prospect or someone who has had one or two good seasons in the last ten. First priority is getting out of this league. People like Todorov Hendrie Holland Murphy N'Gooty (great signing) would do that The future already looks bright, let's sort out today!!

We need players in that age bracket to go along with younger players we already have. One or two older players, maybe in central midfield or defense, but whole team of them? No thanks.
