Sergio Hellings signs

Could well be another Nicolas Priet...

Could well be, thats always the risk with these types of players, you're never gonna get it right 100% of the time. BUT The Don did unearth Freddie Ljungberg so he does have an eye for talent...

Am cautiously optimistic, but am still waiting for the one or two big signings that I think MA will eventually make.

From SkySports

"Sergio is a player with huge potential and I am delighted that he is going to sign for us," said Foxes boss Martin Allen.

"He is a midfielder who our Sporting Director, Don Mackay, is well aware of and I am looking forward to working with him."

Sergio Hellings?

Rejected by all the named decent sides. Couldn't keep a place in a Dutch first division side. Managed to slide down into amateur oblivion. So what is it that suddenly makes him good enough for Leicester City? I'm starting to smell a rat.

Cheers.

"sergio" is a great name though  sounds like a mexican gunslinger

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, wonder which one he'll turn out to be?

What bothers me here is that we have signed him as a midfielder.

Having just googled this unknown, many sites report him as a defender...

He has scored a few though which is encouraging

Sergio Hellings, DOB: 11/10/84, Former Ajax youth academy, then Anderlecht March '02, was loaned out to Heracles Almeo July '05. He is apparently on the books at AGOVV Apeldoorn and I have been unable to find out if he's done anything at all in '06/07 season. There are match reports of him finding the net but I can't find out how many and over what period. M'boro had a look at him in '04 but didn't fancy the price tag of ¿500 K, then he nearly went to Leeds two years ago after a trial but it fell through at the last minute.(fat kev b was close to closing the deal but even closer to leaving himself...) He is primarily a midfielder though has played as a defender (left back) It is my understanding that at the Ajax academy they school players in a variety of positions (Maybe as the Dutch are so tall they don't type cast players due to thier size like so often happens in the uk!) He has played for Holland at U18/19 level.

Sorry for the repetition of above established info which I posted on another site yesterday, but I can't seem to find out what (if anything) he did last season he went out on another loan deal I reckon to AGOVV Apeldorn.......Anybody been able to find out what his stats were like 06/07 -maybe he was injured....as for the OS stating we beat off competition in a race to land him......well, thats what they said about the lad from QPR....I welcome the signing but lets be realistic now......

Yeah see my last post....sky sports reported that they were not keen on 500k orice tag but he impressed on trial.

It's this amateur contract that is a bit odd....just want to know if he spent last season smoking cigars....it may be the incoming UK smoking ban he's banking on to lift his fitness...

Hellings must be good. 1. With a Cigar in his mouth 2. That makes him a pimp 3. His name is Sergio. Roll on The Championship :)

I think too many of you are expecting the same calibre of signings that we had under Taylor, Adams and Kelly.

We have a new board, Milan is in charge and I doubt he will spend his money on some of the crap we have bought in the past. Sure we may not have heard of Hellings but there must be something about him why we have signed him - Mackay clearly thinks he can do a job. I dont think for one minute Mackay is going to recommend crap otherwise he will be out of a job!!

I think with all the signings we have to give them a chance and then see what they can do on the pitch. Once they have had a couple of games you will be better placed to judge them.

One way of looking at it is by inter-league comparison. Considering that Leeds finished bottom of the Championship, they still have players who'd warrant a place in our squad. David Healy is effectively a third tier player and is the highest scorer in European Championship qualifying. Not saying that the Dutch second tier is as strong as ours, it's probably not, but using this logic Serge could very well still be a good player.

It appears he’s a bit of an underachiever. Sergio will be given his chance to show what he’s capable of, the stage is set for him here to do that. But let’s be honest it’s not the best place to start mucking about is it. He’s been quoted in saying that he’s ‘heard the fans are fantastic here’. But all us fans need is just the slightest sign we’ve got anther Stephen Hughes on our hands he’ll be booed, abused, and hounded out with one of his fat Cuban cigars shoved up his backside, and dumped outside Leeds United’s training ground quicker than he can possibly imagine.

A bit of a contradiction there, I'm expecting the calibre of players that are better than that, ones that are capable of getting us promoted within 3 years, presumably so is MM.

He did not unearth Ljungberg. As I said in another topic, Ljungberg played a blinder for Sweden against England, and two weeks later found himself at Arsenal. Might well be that Don had spotted him beofre that game, but by the time they got him, there'd been many enquiries for him.

Besides, one decent player doesn't make a good track record... But I hope you're right, that we're finally on to a winner. We certainly are due one...!

I'm unsure about this signing, yes he looks and sounds like a decent player... in the dutch league, and as we have all said before, anyone can play in that league, we'll have to wait and see, but I pray he can form a parternship with weso !!

From what I understand he is more of a left back / left midfielder, hence the confusion on alot of sites about if he is a defender or midfielder. Probably has very similar characteristics to Mattock. Maybe him and Mattock to battle it out for the left back position this coming season then ?
