Sergio Hellings signs

From what I understand he is more of a left back / left midfielder, hence the confusion on alot of sites about if he is a defender or midfielder. Probably has very similar characteristics to Mattock. Maybe him and Mattock to battle it out for the left back position this coming season then ?

Or him and Mattock to both play up the left, changing position between them when needed.......total football

A bit of a contradiction there, I'm expecting the calibre of players that are better than that, ones that are capable of getting us promoted within 3 years, presumably so is MM.

Taylor had more money and i'd imagine Adams and Levein did also due to parachute payments. Some people (i'm not saying you DG) seem to think we are going to have a lot to spend and I really doubt we are. We should hopefully have more than last year, but we shouldn't kid ourselves that MM is going to be writing cheques left right and centre.

Serge could very well still be a good player.

I don't doubt it for a second...but it's looking like Allen is going to have a number of player who 'could' be decent for us. It'll be interesting to see how and if he pulls the potential from them.

I still reckon there is a story behind this lad - there's something that doesn't sit right at all with the reports of his history. Maybe Martin Allen will be the making of him :dunno:

Money or not this team that Allen is building needs to be a significant improvement on the last two years to satisfy MM ambitions, I'm actually expecting most of any available money to be going on wages, having said that I'm not convinced that the 4/5 show this significant improvement, time will tell. :dunno:

There seems to be this persisting idea that Mattock is somehow a winger, or wide left midfielder, call it what you may simply because he played there while Porter was out.

He's not and there is no evidence at all that either Mattock or Hellings will fill that role.

Mattock scored 2 goals in 19 games playing most left-back/left side for the Academy last season. Hellings hardly scores at all from what I recall from looking through his scant statistics.

We need a minimum of 80 goals next season.

We need specialist scorers/creators in wide midfield.

I'm guessing Allen's time is now up seeing as he never got awarded any points for this signing.

Never mind Martin, there's probably time to get your CV off to another couple of clubs before the season kicks off.

Agree completely, there was a large degree of sarcasm intended in my original post. Either that or a large degree of clutching at straws due to the complete lack of any signings in the midfield department so far.

He did not unearth Ljungberg. As I said in another topic, Ljungberg played a blinder for Sweden against England, and two weeks later found himself at Arsenal. Might well be that Don had spotted him beofre that game, but by the time they got him, there'd been many enquiries for him.

Besides, one decent player doesn't make a good track record... But I hope you're right, that we're finally on to a winner. We certainly are due one...!

Freddy Ljunberg was hardly a secret when Don spotted him though. My mate actually wrote a letter to Wenger with a list of players on he should sign and Freddy Ljunberg was on the list. Not that Im saying Wenger signed Freddy Ljunberg because some random teenager from Ashby De La Zouch told him to, he probabley didn't even read it, I'm just highlighting the fact that Freddy was tipped to be a good player long before Arsenal signed him.

Well SI seem to rate him any way.

Is anyone worried that he's been 'on the verge' of signing for us for ages? Wonder what's taking so long for him to actually sign.

Every time I glance at his career I can't ignore the metioric decline he has suffered, Ajax youth starlet and 2million euro transfer to amateur status at AGOVV Appeldorn. What are we doing

Come on its not like we spent any money on him. Comes from a great youth system and is still young. Doubt he is on huge wages

either. Low risk.

It has just dawned on me that you actually moan about every transfer and decision the club make at the moment. :frusty:

Just wait until the season starts before sounding like a depressed moaner.

Anyway Hellings is on a free!!!!!

I tell you - things have got more brutal at Citeh since MM took over...

First we "capture" one signing ~ and then "Leicester bag Dutch midfielder"

You wait, come Monday the lead article in the Mockery will read "Lee Hendrie bundled into City in the boot of a blacked out 4X4, then knee-capped"

Of course I'm going to moan at the transfers so far, they are all free transfers. Whats the point in MM coming in if he is relcutant to part with cash. I know you are all going to say be patient but why, good players who we should be targeting are being purchased or at least chased by our more forthright and ambitious rivals. Trust me, nobody wants me to be wrong more than me if you get what I mean. Regarding this transfer, I just can't believe how far this guy has sunk, he was released from an amateur contract at Apeldoorn, who the **** are they??

Last season, these signings would have been reasonable considering our financial situation, but now we can do much better. The longer it goes before we even look like lodging a bid for a player the more I beleive MM is not our saviour but more a grumpy old scrooge.

Hopefully, and I mean this honestly, you can all laugh at me if we win promotion this season.

Hmmm what are we paying these players with then? Oxygen?
