Simi Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Good afternoon,When it first happened and I first got here - of course it was a little bit daunting. When I went to the ground and saw all these staff working there and I came to the training ground and I saw all the staff there - there was the immediate feeling of: 'Crikey, this is a big jump.' But since then I have had time to work everyday. I have changed the training ground round completely while I have been away. I have come back this morning, straight from Heathrow Airport and I haven't been home - I have just come straight here. To see the training ground this morning when I got here was absolutely fantastic. The team at the training ground who have done it all have worked to get it how I wanted it - specifically how I wanted it - down to the details that I have asked for. It is all in place. That for me was a very good sign. It is just how I wanted it. The flowers, the colour of them, perfect. The attention to detail - just how I asked it all to be done. There is no longer a restaurant here - there is now an operating theatre, which has white boards, smart boards, a computer system set into it, DVDs and an analysis computer system. It is no longer a lounge, restaurant, reading the paper area. It is exactly as it is - an operating theatre. People raise their eyebrows and said 'What the hell is that,' but our planning and preparation for the next game will all come from that room. And what we learn from the previous game will all be done in that room - the good things and the bad things. It is a fantastic facility. The reason why we have got a barrier at the entrance to the training ground is because I believe that 48 hours before a game the training ground needs to be private. Our focus and attention has to be on us looking after the players - to try to get the team to win. There will be no other outside distraction. We will have a press conference first thing on a Thursday morning, but apart from that there is nobody coming to this training ground. It is private. This is my workplace. And that is when we do our work on Thursday and Friday to get them to win matches. The training ground is in absolutely fantastic condition thanks to the groundsman and the groundstaff - it is superb. It is all set and it is all ready for the players to return. While I have been away I have been on the phone twice a day to Tim Davies. There was a big time difference, but actually it fitted in perfectly because I could speak to him from lunchtime where I was, which meant it was breakfast time here for Tim, and then at bedtime for me I could speak to Tim and it was his finishing work time. So I have spoken to him twice a day. I have had endless telephone calls - so much so that my phone was cut off by the phone company three days ago because I have overused it and the credit has run out on my mobile. That has never ever happened to me before. So it is going to be good fun in the Allen household when my wife's mobile telephone bill comes through next month and she will see that for the last three day I have been using her mobile phone! That will be a day to make sure I don't go home. I am chuffed to bits today that James Wesolowski has signed a contract extension. He has energy, he has enthusiasm, and I am really looking forward to working with him and helping him to get in to the full Australian squad. This afternoon I had a good meeting with all the team at the training ground. I tried to explain to them how important each and every person is to me. There was a good story from back in 1964 when a business executive was invited to the NASA Space Centre in Florida. When he jumped out of his car he saw an elderly chap sweeping rubbish in the car park who asked him if he needed any assistance on which way to go. The business executive knew the way to go, thanked him for his offer and politely asked him what it was he did at the NASA Space Centre. 'I am in a team to help put a man on the moon,' was his reply. Later on in the week I will be meeting the team that are working at the stadium to introduce the new staff and try to give them a vision for the future as I see it. This morning I had the pleasure of meeting six young men who had just left school and started their first day at work. Each one had the task of standing on their chair for one minute to talk about himself and also take a few questions. The funniest moment was when I asked a young man, who will remain nameless, who his favourite bird was. And he replied, after a great deal of thought, a budgie! It certainly broke the ice. I informed all the scholars that they will now be changing not in the main building, but over in the scruffy huts. For my mind they will have to earn the right to come to work and change in this main building. By the way, for supporters wishing to visit - I should hope so to - you will have to respect the areas that we train on. Everyone that comes will be made welcome. Take care, Martin

Chairman of the Bored Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 re The Training Ground: Colour of the flowers changed? Credit run out on his mobile? Meetings with Boffins from NASA? Operating theatres? No canteen? Why do I get the impression this is going in the wrong direction?
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 All those words and not a single mention of King, Dodds or McKay? Just you wait till Thracian does this. I always knew MA was a scheming, ageist wan ker.

Simi Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Martin Allen - The new Thracian ? Some great stories in there Martin, cheers. I think the idea of making the scholars earn the right to come and change in the main building is a good idea and certainly the way in which many would of expected Allen to be around the training ground.

Ah up Mr T. Head. Long time no chat. How's tricks? Nailed that dream job yet? Met that dream woman? Other small talk.
dandannieldanok Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 He is very enthusiastic and comitted but I can't be arsed to read all that
Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 July 2007 Author Posted 2 July 2007 Gradel is going to have to buy a Winnebago.

Turtles Head Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Ah up Mr T. Head.Long time no chat. How's tricks? Nailed that dream job yet? Met that dream woman? Other small talk. Long time indeed. Ive been "lurking", as i believe it is called, a lot lately. Still been reading the ever entertaining posts. Liked your floral shirt. Isnt that Daggers fellow oh so irreverent? Funny you should ask about the job front, find out tomorrow. Good guess sir

And yes, the so called Daggers (if he can so be called) is as irreverent as they come. Irreverence tempered with complete indifference though. It's pretty 2009. He's ahead of his time (and ours).
Milan Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I know why he used to be called Mad Dog now. The name may soon catch on again. He sounds more like a shrink than a Football Manager.

If i get it i shall remember your kind words, and shall the rewards for this shall be bountiful, and in some way related to the job. Can Daggers hot streak continue i wonder? Surely there is a limit to any one mans ongoing quest for greatness in irreverence
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 There will be no other outside distraction. And that is when we do our work on Thursday and Friday to get them to win matches. This is good, he is not boxing himself in. If we don't win he can broaden out to include, say, Wednesday as well in order to win matches. This means that we will have five steps to go before everyone has to start redoubling their efforts rather than banging into the old doubling up palava straight away. I'm a fan.
teblin Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Well he gave me my "i'm back from holiday update" I asked for I like him, would have fallen to sleep reading that is it was rob kelly.
Scow Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Now that's what you call attention to detail. However, is that 2 holidays now, Mr Allen?
Geo V Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I like the scientific approach to football management and the "earning the right" philosphy that he is adopting as far too many of our players have had it too easy and have forgotten what football is all about. Someone like Stearman comes to mind when I talk about players earning the right. Lets hope the talented kids we have in the youth team appreciate the measures set and the younger lads who have enjoyed first eam action already actually progress. I think the new way of thinking will help everyone at the club and will importantly help get rid of the muck who just want tofloat about town getting bladdered and not have the club at first thought. Press conference on thursday I see....Job and Toddy unleashed??!!
Jimmy Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 FFS why all the stearman bashing? it wasn't that long ago you lot were making him out to be the next england right back, he had a bad season, but apart from hume and maybe kisnorb who didn't? you dont become a bad player over night
