Ash Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Hi All I know ive not been around for awhile, and dont want to seem like ive come shooting my mouth of but thought i'd give you my opinion on the new players... Shaun Newton -Not a bad player, Good Squad player Hossein Kaebi - Seen odd clips, looks decent Jonathan Hayes - From Reading Ressies to here, not gunna be a world beater James Chambers - Good squad player Radostin Kishishev - Decent signing , will bring experience Sergio Hellings - Unknown, Cant get excited about ive seen nothing of,Everyone is guessing he's good because he played for Ajax and Anderlect, but they let him go for a reason. Carl Cort - Injury prone, Fact he will get injured Ricky Sappleton - Unknown, find it hard to believe anyone with talent cant get a contract with a club like QPR Jimmy Nielsen - Unknown,Cant get excited about someone i dont know of Bruno N'Gotty - Brings experience and a good ball winner We need to spend money, Not at all looking like a promotion team at the moment! Last season Derby had the likes of Barnes,Mears,Howard,Moore,Bywater,Oakley,Lupoli ! Birmingham - Clemance,Taylor,Larsson,Forssell,Cole,Jerome,Nafti,Vine,Jaidi,Bendtner,McSheffre Sunderland - Connolly,Edwards,Kavanagh,Wallace,Miller,Yorke We have no where near that quality in our team yet,Im not going to say anything about the players i havent seen before because thats unfair, but signing players that have been released isnt going to get us anywhere, unless he's playing it safe for the first season.... Come on Milan get your wallet out
GianEmmo Zola Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 my view Shaun Newton - Could do a job for us down the right has pace and likes to run at people Hossein Kaebi - unknown, if hes played in the world cup he must be half decent Jonathan Hayes - could be agood signing, has pace and is direct James Chambers - yeh squad player at best Radostin Kishishev - Delighted with this signing, could be key for us Sergio Hellings - dont no much about him but if anderlecht spent a fair wack on him he must have potential Carl Cort - Injury prone, been very unlucky, maybe his year Ricky Sappleton - this guy is huge, i wouldnt mess with him! neither wud humey by wat he said on lcfc world, Jimmy Nielsen - dont no much about him, but if hes won the denmark player of the year he must be half decent surely Bruno N'Gotty - Brings experience, with playing him would this leave mcauley out?
Stuliasz Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 You're right Ashov. If people are expecting us to make the playoffs this season, I think they are going to be in for a shock. I can see it now...fans expectations too high and the 'fickle boneheads' (copyrighted?) calling for Allen's head when we finish 11th at the end of the season.

I thought it was an Undisclosed Fee.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 You've both underrated Chambers and Kaebi - probably Nielsen and Hellings too. Just because you haven't heard of someone or haven't seen them play much doesn't mean they aren't very good. We should be aiming for the top six in this league. There are five or six teams that are head and shoulders above everyone else but there will be one or two places up for grabs and we need to make sure we are challenging.

Lord Nibblington Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I like the fact that people assume spending big money will automatically make us better. It worked so well the last time we had money.

Agreed, I certainly think some of our fans are underestimating our transfers and seem to think because they're mainly free's their other clubs rejects. I've got huge hopes for Kaebi and also cort who if we can get fit can be one of the finds of the season. To me with the players we've brought in we should defenatly be aiming for top 9 and seriously challenge for the play-offs. I do think Charlton and wolves will be too strong for the restbut bar those 2 the top 10 should be pretty tight with sheff utd. and watford loosing key players from their previous promotion campaigns in Young and Jagielka and with West Brom starting to loose quality players I think they'll be amongst the potential "play-off to mid-table scrap"

AyewJoking Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 TBF Cort is the only noteable striker we've signed so far which is worrying considering his general fitness. Hopefully we'll sign a better striker or two.

Come on Milan get your wallet out Paying big transfer fees out for footballers is a sure way to run into a financial quagmire when you're a club like Leicester - as Peter Taylor soundy illustrated. If there's one thing Milan Mandaric knows about it is how to handle money, how to get the best out of it and how to keep growing it. MM always said this is the way he'd go about things. There may be odd exceptions but generally he'll not want to drain capital. For instance £5m will generate £500,000 a year in interest and that will pay quite a lot of wages on a week by week basis. Spend £5m and its gone. You might have a theoretical asset in its place but you cannot spend assets. They can lose form or get injured and then where's your £5m?. And, if you spend the £5m you still have to find more money to pay wages. If you don't spend capital but offer high wages those wages can be paid for through normal budgets with the sort of skilled manouvre that got us £650,000 for McCarthy and better sponsorship for the Walkers etc. And if a player loses form or doesn't produce he can be changed for one that does with any luck. No, when it comes to money, I'm 100% convinced that MM well knows what he's doing. He certainly did with what he paid for Leicester City.

Come on Milan get your wallet out yeah because they would rather play sneijder and maduro! you make some good points but i dont agrre with not having quality, theres some young talent there and MA will look to bring the best out of them as he has stated before, you perform and work hard or you wont play, which we need! plus about the teams, colchester only really had cureton and iwelumo to get them where they were! and preston, without nugent where would they have been! then teams like sheff wed started to get better last season with only a few making a difference (brunt, lunt, tudgay) we have made some decent signings and we can only get better surely!
morris1234 Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Saviola's been released guisseppe rossi is up for sale too!
Bluefoxtim Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 You have to remember that he must have spent a lot on wages...
He's not bald Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 You have to remember that he must have spent a lot on wages... Proof's in the pudding and in 35 days 5 hours and 26 mins we'll start to find out if Milan and Martin truly are the new messiahs!
Bryn Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 I don't think any Leicester fans are seriously overestimating our chances. Most people have come out and said that a comfortable season, top half finish, would do. I'm glad he's started slowly, I'd rather we waited and didn't get ripped off and end up financially bitchslapped again. The players he's made are solid and I think some of them will impress you more than you are expecting. I think we are capable of challenging for playoffs but I think the expectations are lower than one might think.
Sly Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Lets review it all though. Mandaric and Allen are having to rebuild the squad from the foundations up. That's why they have invested in younger players such as Stapleton. These won't really be first team players. We are lucky in one way as we alreayd have the best youth team in the country so we have already got fairly solid foundations but it never hurts to add to it. No one can tell me that last season we potential had a better midfielder than Kishishev, the man is a work horse and the sort of player that is required to get you out of this division. Shaun Newton played a part in our push to get away from the drop zone, as Allen rightly said, he had some good game, he had some bad games. I've spoke with a view people with connections to Iran about Kaebi when it was first rumoured we were in for him and I've heard nothing but praise for him. I've been told he's a right winger, not so sure on that but apparently he's got flair and you don't rack up 50+ international caps for being a poor player. N'Gotty has been bought in as a short term addition becuase our defence wasn't exactly water tight last season. With the exceptional bit of business done with the sale of McCarthy, I think we've got a better player in N'Gotty anyway. I can't comment on Hellings, just becuase Anderlect paid €5 million for him doesn't mean he's any good, we paid £5 million for Ade remember. Interestingly, did anyone notice that the squad training tops they had on were all numbered?
Guest Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 2 things: Firstly as previously stated only a couple of additions is enough to take teams like colchester and sheff wed up the league so the sort of makeover city have had this summer might just do the trick. In this division there are so many hit and hope balls played that any team that can play a bit of football stands a chance. With this in mind Kisheshev in particular (and Hendrie if we end up signing him) will add the guile and ball-playing ability in midfield which is the difference between relegation-fighting and play-offs in this division. Secondly, I am as pleased as everyone else about the signing of Kaabi as he looks great on the clips we've seen but to say because he has 50 caps he must be good is a bit silly - the guys 21 - my guess is Iran award caps the same way Saudi Arabia do - well done son, you played a five a side in training here's a cap. Also, I'm slightly concerned about all the sliding about he seems to do - I can see a few reds coming his way this year. Still things are certainly better than last year - UP THE FOXES!!!

Come on Milan get your wallet out I don't really see what you are trying to say with Derby naming players like Barnes who came through the youth, Moore was a free transfer, mears, bywater and Lupoli were loans and so on... they did spend some money I just feel you named the wrong players Peter Taylor spent a fortune and made us rubbish Micky Adams signed players with BIG names but no desire and made us rubbish MON signed players we had never heard of but together formed an awesome team as for players like Hellings being released... well SWP was released by Forest, Ian Wright couldn't earn a deal at Southend or Brighton and was working as a plasterer before Palace gave him a chance, Tony Cottee was written of by all around and farmed off to some 6th rate team in Malaysia it's not about spending millions it's about getting the right players with the right attitude. plus in answer to why is he not spending, I'm sure all these players are playing for nothing, without wages and signing on fees then. The kind of makeover we needed couldn't be achieved by spending massive amounts on every single player we simply couldn't afford it

MBK Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 its not about who the players are its if they work as a team ! The most important thing is that they were wanted players not rejects. (excepting Newton and Neilsen)

Theres that, and the fact Anderlect offered 7 figures for him. So they didn't exactly "let him go"
