Debut Albums

Recommended Posts

Probably been done before but f**k it I'm ill, I'm bored and I wanted to start a thread.

What debut albums do you own that you love, have had most impact on your taste in music (possibly opening you up to new genres, etc) and/or you believe have most influenced the music world and beyond.

Here's some from me off the top of my head:

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing

Portishead - Dummy

Goldie - Timeless

Roni Size - New Forms

Massive Attack - Blue Lines

Super.

Yes to those. Blue Lines was a huge album for me.

This list could be endless. I usually prefer dedut albums as more than usually the band have been together for a while before they get to record an album and have time to develop their sings. Other albums are:-

Clash - Clash

Sex Pistols - Sex Pistols

Queens of the Stoneage - QOTSA

Wheat - Mederios

Wedding Present - George Best

Stone Roses - Stone Roses

Anastasia Screamed - Laughing Down The Limehouse

Pop Will Eat Itself - Box Frenzy

Tricky - Maxinque

Daft Punk (cant be arsed with album names now)

Kings Of Leon

Strokes

TV On The Radio

Willy Mason

Rival Schools

Smashing Pumpkins

The Killers

Chemical Brothers

Pogues

Cooper Temple Clause

PJ Harvey

Air

M Beat

Guy Called Gerald

The list could go on and on having been into music so much for so long.

:D

Surely you can narrow that down a bit though? Maybe not...

I always thought Pre Millenium Tension came before Maxinquaye but just checked and you're spot on. Colossal debut from Tricky, that one.

The Libertines - Up The Bracket

Bloc Party - Banquet (Bloc Party EP)

Arcade Fire - Funeral

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am That Is What I'm Not

Blur - Leisure

Portishead -Dummy

Elastica - Elastica

Basement Jaxx - Remedy

Paul Weller - Wild Wood (might be his 2nd album tbh)

U2 - Boy

It's good to see Portishead - Dummy getting the recognition it deserves.

An impossible decision but whenever I'm asked the "favourite ever album" question it's this one that comes to mind first.

If you like the Portishead sound it's worth your while checking out Lamb (try Fear of Fours, their second album and probably the best).

Just read:

Portishead are reuniting for a third studio album coming soon and a gig in December. First sign of life for 10 years.

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Yeah man, heard that too. Playing something called Nightmare Before Christmas on Dec 7th

http://www.atpfestival.com/events/portishead/line_up.php

I'd go for portishead and aphex twin alone but the tickets are f***ing expensive cos it's like a whole weekend or summat that it's on for

P.s. along with all the class albums mentioned so far I'd have to add August and Everything After by Counting Crows and Core by Stone Temple Pilots

Hadn't listened to Dummy and Blue Lines for ages but this thread inspired me to dig 'em out.

Been listening to them today. Class, pure class. :worship:
