Bryn Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Only found one thread on this, which was closed because it was too early. I think after tonight's friendly the time is right to start discussing it. Stearman captained a side containing McAuley, N'Gotty, Kishishev and Hume tonight against Hinckley... an odd choice but perhaps it's the way to spur him on? Nonetheless, I think it is a bizarre choice. I personally think Clemence is a shoe in to be captain but Stearman's choice has lead me to think that perhaps MA will be less predictable. Anyone know who captained against the other two teams?

Daggers Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I'd go with anyone that states a clear preference for Lemon Puff's
Unabomber Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I thought that Stearman made a fairly good captain tonight, he was constantly shouting orders at those older than him such as Bruno etc, and then when the academy lads came on he really encouraged them. Still I think that Clemence is a cert for the captaincy.
lildave3 Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Clemence took the skipperancy (not a real word, but one I like) when Stearman went off and I think it will definitely be him to be made captain. Looks like he'll be bloody good for us aswell.
Ultra Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 With Kisnorbo away, someone had to step up. When Clemence is fit, he'll probably take over. But didn't MA say the other day he wanted 11 captains on the pitch?
Toby or not Toby Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I think that nothing will come of this, but i feel it is a good confidence booster to have the younger players such as stearman captaining the sides in friendlies, could really increase their confidence.
Blue Bob Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Great bit of management by MA. This should hopefully give Stearman the kick up the backside he needs to knuckle down and become the quality player he showed he had the potential to be a couple of years ago. If there were scouts watching who are thinking of bidding for him it will have put a few quid on his asking price. We win all round.
Alexikokopops Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I'd go with anyone that states a clear preference for Lemon Puff's When will you learn young David?
Bluefoxtim Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Do you HAVE to appoint a captain? Surely not appointing anyone would give everybody in the team the ability to motivate everybody else? Or am I talking bollox?
Thracian Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I reckon he'll give all sorts of players the experience of being captain. He really means it when he says he wants 11 captains out there. And to help that he's handing out some experience. Same with all the kids and fringe players he's getting involved. Just like Fergie he's giving them game time with the top players so he learns what they can do, how they react to pressure, where their weaknesses lie and so they are not greenhorns should something bigger crop up. Similarly he said last night at Kilworth that he wants players to be comfortable in various positions. Hence Stearman's played centre-back and midfield, Sheehan left wing and left back, Porter's gone into the centre etc. Not only that but people seem to have licence to move about, to swop wings etc. All the time he finds things out where in the past we've been so rigid we've learned nothing.
Joe. Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I hate these threads. I don't think you can say who should be captain without knowing the players personally

Casual innuendos would be a good name for a punk band. I have no idea why anyone would knock on anyone but then again im not the sexual deviant that you appear to be by wanting to knock on someone

Stop making a bad joke worse! Anyway, as for the captaincy I don't see anything wrong with discussing the relative merits of the players as far as we, the fans, can see. It's the same as picking who our first team should be for each game - to make an informed decision you need to be at training, etc but we can still discuss based on what we see and hear during games and off the pitch. I would've thought come the start of the season either N'Gotty or Clemence will be captain. The latter being the obvious choice.
