Nod.E Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 I genuinly feel very optimistic about the forthcoming season! we appear to have a good, motivator as manager, positive, solid signings, and personally i am looking forward to it. What are you views and assumptions of next season?
Thracian Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Martin Allen's been like a tornado hitting Leicester and the fresh air has invigorated everyone concerned. I could knock off an electoral roll of praiseworthy things that he's done. Whatever happens I quietly give thanks that he's lifted all our spirits after killjoy Kelly. So why do I think we'll only finish about seventh?. Because MA believes in what he is and looks like fielding a whole team of players in that image. Even the remaining people who are not in that image look likely to be replaced or not used. And it could well be we'll founder like a cricket team without a spinner. Leicester's most successful team of the 60's had fast, tenacious, in-your-face footballers. guys like Frank McLintock, Colin Appleton and Richie Norman. But they also had Davie Gibson who was to tackling what The Wicked Witch was to kindness. And they had pace and goals from the flanks. And reliable finishers up front. Yet if MA's team to face Partick is any pointer for away games we're to be all attrition and aggression but precious little creativity or finishing power. That will only take us so far. And so far is where MA's always been up to now. Great teams have their Scholes or Dalglish - the people who can unlock the tightest defences. But we're looking like a cargo vessel that's been loaded one end only - the defensive end. We have three creative midfielders, Wesolowski, Porter and Andy King but have only taken one and are not using any tonight. It was a major shortcoming last season and while MM can buy an answer if those three are considered not good enough (which I find laughable), we have to first accept we have a problem. We also need more potential goalscorers in our side - another failing last season - and tonight we have very few. Perhaps enough to win against Partick but not enough to reach the Championship top six if we carry on that way. I voted "no, we need more signings" - to do specific jobs - but to say we'll finish 7th is still a vast improvement on what we've started to get used to.
Joe. Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 I'm confident in the fact thatI think we'll have a much better season than last year but for me, top 10 would be a realistic target this year. I just don't think we'll make the playoffs....

I just don't think we'll make the playoffs.... This club has been longing out for some standards to be set, Allen seems to be instilling these in adundance to the players. Who knows what the team is capable of, I'd expect a top half finish
Daggers Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 I voted - 'This seems so similar to Barton's thread that I'm surprised it was made'. Have expectations drastically changed over the last couple of weeks? (That's rhetorical)
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Anyone else just trying to get their post count up for the day?, I have nothing better to do
lildave3 Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Imo we'll finish top half, not so sure about getting a play off place tbh.
AyewJoking Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Its great to have a charismatic boss and I doubt we will experience the lows of previous seasons but how long before MA's long ball tactics are matched and beaten by the opposition?

Geo V Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 I dont get how people can not at least be optimistic about next season! At this stage, we have 12 new players to go with some handy players from last season like Hume, Kisnorbo and McAuley, we have also got some younger players who havent shown their best yet like Fryatt, Mattock and Weso and a successful Youth team!! I reckon that if Kaka, Ronaldinho, Messi and Torres signed that some would still come on to moan about the forthcoming season!

Mickey O'Neil Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Optimistic, though not expecting too much this year. I just want some solid, gritty performances and 100% off the players. I'll be a happy chappy with 12th + I'd expect playoffs the season after, after MA has had a season with what he has got. I wouldn't slit my wrists if we didn't make it though.

From the Birmingham buys, Clem was captain, Fans Player of the year and Players player of the year. At 29 he wanted teh guarantee of first team football.. N`Gotty was offered a new deal but wanted a two year contract hence leaving. DJ scored a goal every two games in the games he featured last season and clubs like Watford wanting him. Chambers was offered BETTER terms than he was on to stay at Watford but he wanted a move. According to Leeds fans forum, Kishishev is Prem class and they loved him there as he was the shining light in a season of shite (fook me that rhymes, get it into a terrace chant ). Kaebi, one who we havent seen yet is highly rated and the little youtube glimpses tell us that he could be a little special. Hayes is young and raw but looks lively, Newton was the best of last seasons loanees and if he gets a run of games could be anything. Since this time last season we have got rid of so much cack and dead wood like COG, Low, and Johnson and others like Nils and Tiatto who didnt want to hand about have gone and 5 other players who are generally classed as average to poor by most of us have been highlighted by the management as surplus and are on the transfer list. What more do you want fella??!! I dont think we will win the league and I dont think all will be rosey as there will be bad times but things are looking good enough for me to think that we have players who could help us have a good season and I am optimistic at the least! Come on and join the optimism bus as its alright here
Raj Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 I think as long suffering Leicester fans we have alot more this season to be optimistic about than the last few seasons. Perhaps, as some people keep stating some signings have not een breathtaking, however the fact that we ARE signing players is a fact in itself for optimism?? And surely under Mr Allen we have an interesting season to look forward to!!
Daggers Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Come on and join the optimism bus as its alright here Are you a cult?
Raj Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Are you a cult? OI!!! Why are you posting a picture of my car and family!!!???

Come on and join the optimism bus as its alright here ok you have sort have convinced me a little and ok there is a case for cautious optimism but its going to take a lot of blending of these many new ingredients to make a team capable of pushing for promotion ; and if we are not among those setting the pace this optimism will soon turn to disenchantment with MA .
Geo V Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Are you a cult? Hurry up as the bus is almost full of optimism.
Raj Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Hurry up as the bus is almost full of optimism. The club should have had that as a strap line!! GET ON THE BUS OF OPTIMISM,BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!!
Zingari Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 bl**dy amazing ; you wait ages for one optimistic bus and then three come along together
