Thracian Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 To me the guy had height, a decent touch but took too long on the ball. I'd like him to play two touches maximum for three months non stop. His game didn't have enough urgency for me and nothing really happened as a result of what he did. MA made reference after the Cheltenham first half to "aimless passing". Hughes, who started in midfield that day, has always been the ultimate aimless passer to me, rather like Jarrett - and Hellings seemed the same. He can change, of course, and MA's described him, I think, as one for the future so we'll see what time brings.
alex Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 People were saying that that sports director guy got sacked for recommending him. Obviously a joke, but they mustn't rate him highly then Not true, he didn't get sacked for that.... However I had heard that he was not that great a signing potentially too.
Daggers Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 From what i saw:Plus points - He looked mobile  Sorry - I shouldn't laugh...but doesn't this translate to has legs, wheelchair or articulated lorry?
Alexikokopops Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 What do you care...no one likes me, remember that? No one liking me? The fact that no one likes me?Huh? Huh? What do you expect? You sullied Rufio.
Geo V Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 Didnt Hellings join us from an Amateur side?? If that i sthe case, his fitness shouldnt be anywhere near the rest of the squad so I`d give him more time than the rest to get match fit. Again, I haven't seen him play but I still think its a bit early to start dismissing any of our new signings ability until that are fully match fit and settled within the club.

I watched him the first day of training and he seemed to be as fit as anyone else there and fitter than a lot of them. Led the group running and had no problem with the exercise that nearly killed the goalkeepers.
Thracian Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 He didn't look unfit - just a bit slow to move the ball.

Fair enough but we may not see an accurate reflection of all players ability until we have seen 5-10 games for us. Its pointless in people either dismissing a player or over-hyping them, like some are doing for Kaebi without even seeing them play in a "proper" competitive match for us.

Manwell Pablo Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 Appledoorn aren't actually a amatuer club anyway. That was falsely reported.
Pete_foxes Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 Saw him against Notts County. nothing to write home about. Just passed the ball about twice & didnt touch it apart from that. We'l see if he gets a go against Portsmouth if hes any good. From what I've seen he has no chance of getting in at Centre midfield at the moment with Kishishev, Clemence, Weso. Right midfielf Kaebi. So hes probably taking up bench space at best.
Nationwider Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 So...Hellings? Shit hot or what! Makes excellent mayonnaise. Unlike Jason Jarrett, whose mayo was horrid.
David Guiza Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 well he's not goin to be a first team player anyway so he will proberly be watching him now we have got our reserve team back along with the likes of sappleton.

MPH Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 well he's not goin to be a first team player anyway so he will proberly be watching him now we have got our reserve team back along with the likes of sappleton. sappleton will of course start the season in the reserves but i wouldnt bet against him getting a few minutes here and there, being a pain for some defenders scoring a goal or two and being recognised as a bit of a favourate.....

ratbygeorge Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 at hinckley hellings played the last 10 mins at centre back and looked solid, though i'd be very surprised if he played there for us during the season
Dames Posted 4 August 2007 Posted 4 August 2007 I think Hellings was brought in as cover with the potential to develop into somewhat a solid first team player. We'll just wait and see.
Toby or not Toby Posted 4 August 2007 Posted 4 August 2007 I think Hellings was brought in as cover with the potential to develop into somewhat a solid first team player. We'll just wait and see. Yep, and he is new to England so we should allow him time to settle in here! Drogba took time to settle at Chelsea, now look at him.......
