Anyone also think Deep Freeze has got this burst of effort and trying which to be fair isn't as amazing as everyone is making out IMO because potentially if he doesn't make it this season his career is over?!

Think about it, he did nothing while he was on loan and come the end of this season his contracts up...

I don't know why everyone is on the Deep Freeze bandwagon all of a sudden, I'll admit there slight improvement, but I do mean slight, and we still have better players at out club yet Deep Freeze is as it looks rated in the top 3 strikers (possibly top 2).

He has one year left on his contract so he obviously has to do something to get a new deal with us or somewhere else at the end of the season so that may have been the kick up the backside he needed to lose the weight and show signs of improvement.

How did the Sappletiser play?

Hard to judge really. He was OK, he has a good physical presence but he didn't have any real goalscoring opportunities. The rest of the team didn't really create much though. Not ready for the first team yet.

Damn. Maybe against Accy though? I live in hope.

Cheers anyway

You tell me, I still think MDV only appears slightly better cuz he's shed some timber and is consequently quicker!.MA needs a big target man to aim at for the style of play he prefers and that's the only reason he's there!

Hopefully he'll pop up in cup games at least. All depends on our other strikers I guess-Elvis wouldn't have done any better than him tonight, Fryatt was pretty poor tonight. Haven't seen Cort or Campbell play yet. He'll be a good option to bring off the bench in the Championship against weaker sides, get some experience.

I have a feeling people hoping for a Fryatt redemption will massively be dissapointed.

Btw as the same arguments popped up yet again.

De vries was unfit and lacking 2 seasons ago.

Please get over yourselves.

Who ever keeps spouting the same crap about him 2 seasons ago are begining to show how simple and narrowminded they are.

Fryatt - 2 goals in pre-seaon. MDV - 1 goal in pre-season.

It might be a simplistic view, but it's enough for me.

It's simplistic because if it was the other way around I doubt you would have posted it. But if it helps your case Fryatt's now scored three goals pre-season with the winner tonight.

And you could view his performance as excellent seeing as he conjured up lots of chances and scored the winner or not so good cos he missed some sitters of the kind Hammond would have been crucified for.

Another Fryatt goal to go with last weeks hat-trick and the top scorer in pre-season. What does he have to do to get in front of Cort and MDV`s in the squad? I think he deserves a chance but something tells me there is more to the story than him simply not being ready ahead of the others. Did he actually ask for a transfer out or did he sleep with one of MMs nieces or grand-daughters lol. Something still seems strange regarding MF!

Must admit im baffled by Fryatt.

I know he had his fair share of problems, both physically and family wise(think his little one was ill) but can't understand why footballing wise he is completely off the radar??? :dunno:

He might have asked for a transfer - at least two players did. He's also had problems off the field. And despite his four recent reserves goals, two of which were penalties both I and others I've spoken have hardly thought him convincing as far as potential first team in concerned.

The biggest part of his case is the form of Campbell. Some might argue DeVries as well but the big man is a different player doing a different job to some extent although, bottom line is, we still need goals from that position. Whether Fryatt is really going to provide them I don't know.

He probably deserves a place on the bench though - although I can see Billy Ke becoming a challenger.

Kee was only on for 15/20 minutes or so against Lincoln Reserves. He's a bit raw right now but looks a real hard case. What most impressed me was that he looks to shoot from anywhere and everywhere. And he's so powerful he'll have a much greater range than Fryatt. Definitely one to take notice of.

Wow, a cheap unnecessary dig at Matty Fryatt!

As well as his strengths, Fryatt has some serious shortcomings as a striker as most people who watched him last night and on endless other occasions, would have clearly seen. And, of course, he will get compared with other strikers, just as players in other positions get compared.

Bottom line though is I'd still put Fryatt on the first team bench right now and presumably the club are giving him plenty of playing time in the reserves to keep his fitness levels up so he can do himself justice if that happens.

After watching the reserve highlights its like Fryatt needs help (and seeing his body language last season). The game looked scrappy etc but when he scored his goal (tap in from about 5cm out) he looked so disinterested its untrue.

Here we have a pro footballer getting paid good money (so surely living out his dream), scores a goal to win a game and just puts his head down and walks away as if someone had died.

I'm rubbish, don't get paid to play but have extreme excitement everytime I play, when I score etc - whats wrong with him! Its another MDV type (from when he was over weight etc) piss take - all the money that is spent on them and they just waste it and do not make any effort to sort themselves out. They forget everyone has to deal with rough patches in life - I wish I could be paid to play football when I've had my share!

Fryatt - get a grip.

Correct, but I don't see him being described as having more facets to his game than Dodds, or more immediately easy on the eye than Odihambo, or less cumbersome and clumsy than de Vries.

He's compared only to Fryatt!

Poor old Matty F!

He's playing in the stiffs against the mighty imps, probably not the sort of match he gets excited about.

Still he hasn't looked very interested for some time.

The fact is Fryatt is scoring in friendlies and reserve games at an impressive rate. He's not even playing very well either. There's a big difference between first team football and friendlies/reserve football, but he's always scored goals at every level he'splayed at other than last season.

I think he should at least be on the bench. We should be looking to have 2 strikers on the bench for most games, he should be one of them at the minute.

7 goals in two academy games and 15 mins in the reserves and already Thracs knees are jerking away like the clappers! Its also really nice of Thrac to let us know that Kee is one to take notice of and one for the future. The fact that he is about 16 and is scoring goals for fun at academy level already gives him a chance of being one for the future. Its not like you are sticking your neck on the line is it lol??! I think I get it though. If you say something nice about every young player and they make it, you`ll point to moments like this bit of insight on Kee. If they go on to become COG`s, you`ll distance yourself from any praise to his ability. Its a win win situation for you mate! Keep it going, its very insightful! :P

As for MF, you say that two of his strikes were peno`s but if Van Nistelroy, Shearer, Fowler and Owen hadn't taken peno`s during there careers I`d guess that there strike-rates would be significantly lower. Apart from the peno`s, thats about a goal a game through the reserves and pre-season which isnt bad is it? If Dodds or Odhiambo were doing the same you would be raving about them with a thread a day!

I don't distance myself from Chris O'Grady at all any more than I distance myself from Hammond. You can make up what you like but I've stood by a good many people in the face of considerable opposition.

Nor do I need the reflected glory of spotting people earlier than anyone else thanks. They've been spotted long before I've seen them anyway, often around the age of eight or nine.

Re Matty Fryatt, penalties have to be scored anyway so I don't devalue them for one minute. I've already said Fryatt should be on the bench both today and at other times. It doesn't make me convinced of his ability at Championship level though.

I wish he would convince me. I'm sick of staring at misfiring strikers.

As for Kee I've said what I think. And a win-win situation wouldn't apply anyway because if he plays awful next time out I'll say so, as I have done with others lots of times.
