Thracian Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 I must say, i'm still finding it all very funny. This could change quickly though when the new manager is confirmed. Mandaric is 69, surely he doesn't want one of his last business ventures to be a failure.I cannot understand why he hasn't gone Foreign, perhaps he has. I hope so. The amount of proven foreign managers that you see at crap European clubs in the Austrian, Yugoslavian, Sweish etc leagues is frightening. Surely they'd be keen on a stint at a fairly big Championship club, a league that's meant to be fairly strong. Look where the likes of Trappatoni is at the minute, ludicrous. Why would an Italian former National coach, who doesn't need the dough, swop the good living around Saltzburg for being pushed around by a doubtful character like Mardaric?
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Why would an Italian former National coach, who doesn't need the dough, swop the good living around Saltzburg for being pushed around by a doubtful character like Mardaric? I doubt he's there for the good living around Saltzburg. Probabley more to do with the massive contract the Red Bull franchise will have him on.
Ric Flair Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Why would an Italian former National coach, who doesn't need the dough, swop the good living around Saltzburg for being pushed around by a doubtful character like Mardaric? All i'm saying is, that proven foreign managers are pitching up at very mediocre clubs across Europe and as we need a new manager, Mandaric should be trying to obtain one. I used Trappatoni as an example. Austrian football is in no way a comparison even to Championship football, even if they do experience European Football in their league. Co Adriaanse is available.

He's not coming here is he Ric lets face it. We're going to end up with a English manager. Someone who's done it before, not someone whos made a career out of managing medicore European sides.

I know he's not, but my argument is that decent and proven European Managers shouldn't be out of the equation to come to Leicester or any club of similar ilk. I don't know why it doesn't happen. They flock in their droves to the Premiership, yet the Championship, which is a stronger league than a lot of mediocre European leagues get stuck with cretins that we've been linked with etc.

It doesn't matter what state the rest of the league is in.

Someone who's done it before, not someone whos made a career out of managing medicore European sides. Done what before, when and how, those are the questions. Megson's "done it before" but it was a while ago now and he did it boringly with better squads relatively speaking than we have now. Reid's "done it before" but that was a loooong time ago and he had players of the quality of Phillips and Quinn to call upon up front. Warnock's "done it before" and recently, but it took a long time for him to do it and he wasted plenty of money in the meantime. Megson, Reid and Warnock may have signed some of their good players which normally would be a big plus point but we are stuck with the squad we've got til January and we need results between now and then.

They get Champions League qualifiers if they win the league and then possibly a sniff at the UEFA Cup. Never do anything in either though. Without doing the research there are some proven European managers at clubs crapper than ours, that don't even get a sniff at the European Qualifier either.

Porto won it a few years back! Donestk made the group stages and do you know how much that nets a football club!? It's all about adaptation as well, there have been some good forign managers come to England and make a complete hash of their jobs, managers who have gone on a done alright for themselves abroad, Christian Gross and of course Alain Perrain as Mandaric will know.

I don't think it matters to be honest, it seems to me he's laid out a blueprint and it needs to be someone who has achieved from the Championship to the Premier League at least once before . I don't agree with it but from what he's said thats what we're going to get.

Sounds like it, yes. At least that would rule Pulis out.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Sounds like it, yes. At least that would rule Pulis out. When you think about it, it's somewhat worrying. As, if we aren't let anywhere near Davis or Dowie, we're essential left with Megson and Reid
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 When you think about it, it's somewhat worrying. As, if we aren't let anywhere near Davis or Dowie, we're essential left with Megson and Reid Yes. This is the basis of my concerns as laid out in various threads today. I'm not enjoying this. Reid or Megson would be unthinkable. Why are we concentrating solely on managers who have either succeeded or failed in their most recent job at our local rivals? It's bound to end in tears. Davies - at Derby Dowie - at Cov Reid - last f**ked up Cov Megson - last f**ked up Forest Who's next? David Platt? Phil Brown? Colin Calderwood? ...... Micky Adams?!?!

What will be funny is when all this speculation proves to be pointless as an unheard of Eastern European MilanPuppet rolls up at Belvoir Drive as the fall guy should Milan's management all go wrong.
Ric Flair Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Porto won it a few years back! I wasn't necessarily talking about what Salzburg have done and Porto are obviously a bigger club than us, as are a lot of the clubs in their league. But what i'm saying is there are some very crap clubs in the Austrian, Swiss, Romanian, Hungarian, Yugoslavian etc leagues that have somehow got good proven European managers in charge. An ambitious club like ourselves should be looking outside of the box and take in to consideration a proven foreign manager. Surely more ambitious than the likes of Reid, Roeder, Megson or Pulis. I think i'd even rather take a chance on Gullit or Vialli than any of the above and both have been out of management for a long while. Tigana is no way near out of our league in terms of possible candidates for the job. What's the point in pissing about with a failed manager like Reid or Megson? We'll only have to replace them again in a few months. Mandaric needs a quality manager quickly to get a return on his investment.

I'm fed up of the prospect of uninspiring managers. I'm off to see the Bourne Ultimatum, perhaps that will save the day.

Thracian Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Thracian? Have you applied? If not - why not? The way things are going even you might offer some support.
The People's Hero Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 The way things are going even you might offer some support. I would support you. This club is a joke now and it might be a giggle to see us pick up no further points but breaking all sorts of records for youngest XI ever. Finally as well, the world would see that a 4-4-2 with attacking wingers is outdated. It's a 4-2-4 with the 2 wide front mine tracking back occasionally that you want.
Dr The Singh Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 The way things are going even you might offer some support. Buy me a couple of the Barbars and I will support you Thrac, another couple more it will be me who will need the support!!!

Oh I've said I'd take Tigana and he is obviously a possability and I wouldn't rule him out, he's won promotion with Fulham so he ticks the stupid must have promotion box.
