Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 Heard on the Radio Leicester match commentary today that they asked someone (if I recall correctly it was Mandaric himself) how many of the 14 signings were chosen by MA and how many by MM. The answer was 7 each. So my thinking is this... Who signed whom? Here's my guess... but remember it's just a guess. I don't claim to hold any priveleged info! Signings á la Martin Campbell Chambers Clemence (Anyone begining with C basically! ) Hayes Sappleton Fulop Clarke (Last 2 on the basis that Milan would just go for out-and-out signings) Signings á la Milan Nielsen Kaebi N'Gotty Kishishev Newton (kinda obvious as he was here previously under MM before MA arrived) Hellings Cort (Blowing my "C theory" right out of the water! )

Vennegoor10 Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 pretty interesting to learn that it was 7 each!

Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 September 2007 Author Posted 1 September 2007 He said it was a guess Well the part about 7 signings each was reported by Radio Leicester - though I'm not saying that they never get it wrong

But as i say trying to make out all the duff signings were Milan's and all the more inspiring ones were Allen's is daft and obviously not true (as for a start it ignores the impact McKay had).

dandannieldanok Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 Don MackaySergio Hellings Jimmy Nielsen ?
Flynny Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 Allen signed up Newton from his DVD watching. We came this close to getting "topless female plumber #3" from "Blocked Pipes 2 - The squirting"

Not at all. N'Gotty has been good, Kishishev no worse than what we had and my verdict is still out on Kaebi and Cort - and it wasn't me who said there were 7 choices each, that was the radio - which I also qualified as potentially in error. Besides which, it's just a bit of fun!
escape2victory Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 As stated in a couple of posts earlier, I think you will find Don Mackay had a big say in several transfers, ala Jimmy Nielsen, Sergio Hellings and Ricky Sappleton.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 September 2007 Author Posted 2 September 2007 As stated in a couple of posts earlier, I think you will find Don Mackay had a big say in several transfers, ala Jimmy Nielsen, Sergio Hellings and Ricky Sappleton. And Mackay was MM's man, hence they go under his name. Mackay didn't "sign" anyone, he just recommended them. Ultimately, no matter what Mackay thought of these players, the Manager would (should!) have had the final say... though in this case it's obvious what happened.

Managers are useless without their backup support and that includes scouts, football directors, chairmen or whatever. If you think that top class managers make all their own decisions I`d advise you to read a few autobiographies of some of the greats! Martin Allen came toa club that had a poor scouting system, the chairman brought in Fuccilo and MacKay to help and the latter was at a Premiership club remember? MA has OK`ed some of the signings based on info supplied to him and the odd DVD that was handed to him so he trusted his teams judgments. If you cant trust your management team then you have problems. Arguably the back-up team haven't helped him that much but maybe hindered him. To my knowledge, Fuccilo and MacKay were sacked quite early because they weren't bringing much to the club that they didn't already have and MM has hardly tried to get real quality players in that MA said no to apart from some veteran strikers who were available for transfer anyway. The problem we had is that everything was rushed along from the appointment of MA to having to make so many new signings because the bosmans were being snapped up by others and our squad was so shite in needed major surgery. Mistakes have happened along the way but IMO its partly Milans fault because he should have not been so nice to RK last season and punted him out when he arrived and named a new manager then as that would have given the new boss plenty of time to assess his squad and scout players who IMO we missed out on (We paid more for DJ than Wolves did for Eastwood, Tony Capaldi went to Cardiff who may have been the answer to us at left-back or maybe Julian Gray who went to Cov etc etc)
Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 Signings á la MartinCampbell Chambers Clemence (Anyone begining with C basically! ) Hayes Sappleton Fulop Clarke (Last 2 on the basis that Milan would just go for out-and-out signings) Signings á la Milan Nielsen Kaebi N'Gotty Kishishev Newton (kinda obvious as he was here previously under MM before MA arrived) Hellings Cort (Blowing my "C theory" right out of the water! ) I don't buy this at all. Allen enthused about Cort. Milan may have identified him initially but Allen was certainly pleased with his signing. Same goes for Kishishev. And I don't see why Clemence has been marked down as an Allen signing either.
surrifox Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 reported in the NoW that MA was to bring in O'Connor (Burnley) before the dealine everything had been agreed and Mandy binned the deal

Because his name starts with a C? And it's interesting to see that those who criticise my unresearched/plucked from the air/casual selection have yet to offer alternatives... they just dis mine. I wasn't asking whether you all agreed with me - I was asking for YOUR selection, which I expected to be different from mine. In the words of Monty Python's Life of Brian... We're all individuals!!!
Lillehamring Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 i think the important thing here is that, technically, milan signed them all, as he holds the purse strings and surely will have the final word... especially, if it is to be believed that he is a demonic megalomaniacal tyrant, who effectively is the actual squad manager.... to be honest these meaningless guessing games are, at best, trivial... at worst a total and utter embarrassment, who the fu(k cares who bought which players, no offence to the guy who atrted this thread, but what's the point, the players are all here now, it would be just as valid to discus who started the first world war. no one will ever know, and chances are some of them, like cort, were probably mutual decisions. i know it's good to talk, but lets talk about the now and the future, this has a nasty taste of 'wishingallenwasstillhereitis'... ...for the record the only signing that seems to be definate is whatsisface from benfica!

FFF It's just a rumour, it's not neccessarily exactly correct. Oh and this chairman your referring to has incidently helped city out incase you havent noticed. Players like Douglas, Maybury, Hughes, Hammond etc etc could have potentially been on the team sheet against Argyle on saturday . So quit your moaning
