eaststandtom Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Is it some kind of record to finish a match with 8 defenders on the pitch? we won!!! there was a guy behind me so desparate to dive on the negative/defensive bandwagon when hume was taken off he was slating megson 'thats right magson, take off the attackers' he failed to notice campbell coming on to replace him so caught up in the negativity was he
Dames Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Dames, I've got a nice slice of humble pie if you fancy it. Yes i'd quite like some thanks.
lcfc_jme Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Stand out performers for me last night were Fulop, Kisnorbo and of course Clem. Mattock looked a lot more comfortable last night than he has since coming into the first team, and even Stearman had an improved game. Kishishev still looks a little off the pace to me and like struggles to keep up with what's going on around him.
syston_fox Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Fulop – 9 We NEED to sign this guy! stearman – 7 Played his part and helped cover when needed. ngotty – 8 Won everything in the air - gave away some needless free kicks near the end that could have cost us but not gonna hold that against him kisnorbo - 8 Solid performance - expect enquiries from MON in January? mcauley – 8 Good in the air and on the deck when needed mattock – 6 Did ok down the wings but the final ball was lacking clemence – 9 MOTM - didnt give the Villa midfield a second on the ball and I cant remember a single bad pass. Best midfielder since Muzzy kishishev – 6 Did ok after coming in. First half was much better and seemed to drift away as the game went on. Lack of fitness? chambers -8 Very impressed with him last night. I'd been critical of him after the last two games but he was everywhere last night and chasing every lost cause hume – 6 Disappointing really but thats only because we expect so much of him fryatt - 7 A bit more like the Fryatt of old... not the finished article but worked hard and great finish Subs: Kenton - N/A Maybury - 4 - seemed to give the ball away quite a lot but he was playing way out of position DJ Campbell - 4 - ineffective
BigGibbo Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Fulop 8 stearman 7 ngotty 8 kisnorbo7 mcauley 8 mattock 7 clemence 8 kishishev 6 chambers 7 hume 6 fryatt 7 subs maybury 5 dj 6 kenton 5 Sounds about right but i had a touch of vertigo at the time at the top of the doug ellis might have clouded my judgement

Kish looked off the pace against a Premiership midfield which I suppose is expected at this stage of his career. Villa were moving the ball very quickly all last night, he seemed to struggle to get to terms with it. Having Chambers in there who has a decent engine helped us a lot I think.
Thracian Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Christ Almighty! It takes a lot to please you, Thracian. Now I wasn't there, and can only base an opinion on what I was reading on FT, Match Live and Live Chat, but it seemed to me that although we were under pressure a fair bit, we were getting stuck in and having a good go back at them. Based on the fact that we were away and against a Prem team who mullered Everton all over the park at the weekend, I would have thought it would have been quite entertaining.. Perhaps you can put down what warrants an entertainment level of 7. And upwards... I don't give a toss who you listened to. We were getting stuck in and were collectively outstanding in defence. THe organisation was as good as I've seen and the concentration. But having a good go back? We barely managed a shot apart from Fryatt's goal and didn't threaten to muster shots either. In fact we had very little ambition to go forward at all. And when we did our passing was hurried, cumbersome, ill-considered and inaccurate in the main. So there's no question in my mind that we weren't "entertaining" and although pundits might have suggested Villla made an entertaining finale of it after conceding the goal I don't think that was really the case. In fact they only momentarily broke our defence down a couple of times all evening. Most everything else they did was stifled on the edge of the box or was sourced from a cross into the penalty area which was gamely even combatively dealt with by our defenders who never looked like being mastered in that department. Exciting? As a footballing spectacle it was more like watching flowing water being soaked up by a sponge or, around the box, a sort of multi-limbed being, pre-programmed to strangle everything that came its way. Villa didn't pepper us with shots, didn't break through for one on one's, didn't bamboozle us with magical passing. They simply huffed and puffed while we resolutely blew their house down.
mmarkie Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 I can't be bothered to manufacture points from tonight.Hume was disappointing, his head hung low and his game was way off. DJ was pointless, he contributed nothing when he came on, he was invisible.Everyone else played their socks off and I can ask for nothing more. how did he contribute nothing when he set up the goal?

Just flagging this up for Thracianalogy fans.

So you have a random nonsence generator? Or do you think this all up yourself?
TheBlinding Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Fulop - 9 ( Almost keeping us in this comp on his own) Mattock - 7 ( Decent game, solid at the back against two v.good players, dissappointing going forward though) Kisnorbo McAuley - 8 (All rock solid) N'gotty Stearman - 7 (Had a good game) Kishishev - 6.5 ( Worked hard in defense but poor distribution) Chambers - 6.5 (Good game but looked lost at times) Clemence 8 ( Another great display, won the ball and didn't give it away) Hume - 6 (Ineffective, left Fryatt isolated all game) Fryatt - 6 (Hardly saw him but grabbed the goal) DJ -6 (Came on and set up the winning goal) Maybury - 5 (Ridiculous substitution) Kenton N/A
GianEmmo Zola Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 im sure behind me were 5 foxestalk users! i was behind the goal row E block t4 was any of you on row F ?
Mark Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Agreed. I think i'm the only one who isn't even slightly happy with last night. I have no satisfaction from winning football matches with that many defenders in the side. I won't and can't get excited about that. It ruins the epitomy of why I watch football. Can't help that and won't apologise for being a miserable twat. I fear for my mood levels under Megson right now, but I can't walk away. Wasn't going to post this but you're not as I think I felt the same as you. I didn't even stick around last night to listen the 2nd half chose to have a game of 5 a side instead. I found out the final result via text and didn't feel all that much which was strange, I let out a little smile but only cause of my Villa mate who was harping on all week about how they were going to batter us. The look on his face when I told him we'd only gone and won I'll openly admit I don't like Gary Megson, I don't like his tactics, they make me cringe whether they work or not. I do however wish him well in his efforts of getting us promoted, I'm just worried that after a few more matches the excitement of going to the football for me will be non existent. I didn't pay a lot of money for a season ticket to go to watch a team defend for their lives in the Championship hoping to nick a win, and right now, I can't bear the thought of Saturday playing at home with a back 5 without Kaebi, and a midfield 3 with only Clemence who knows how to play in the oppositions half. This season was supposed to be different yet last night 10 out of the 16 were last seasons players, I really am sick of the sight of some of them now.
dandannieldanok Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Fulop 8 (Vital saves but still messes up on a few crosses) McAuley 7 (Won everything in the air against Harewood) Kisnorbo 7 (Handled the front two well, always worried that he may give away silly fouls though, never lets go of the opponents shirt) N'Gotty 8 (Very commanding, should never play full-back again) Mattock 7.5 (Found his best position at wing-back, very solid defensively and played well against Young, just lacked a bit of confidence in thaking on the opposing full-back in attack) Stearman 6.5 (Didn't look too comfortable at wing-back but defended well, especially in the air) Chambers 6 (Clearly midfield is not his favoured position but was a calming presence in a congested area) Clemence 7 (100% effort and commitment, linked play up well between defence and attack, needless booking though) Kishishev 7 (Not a great passer at all but he looked surprisingly dangerous in attack ) Hume 5.5 (For every nice touch and skilful trickery there was a missed pass) Fryatt 6 (Not as fast as I thought he was but the finishing made up for it) Maybury 3 (wtf?) Campbell 5 (No service so no chance to do anything) Kenton 5.5 (Busied himself, made a few good challenges)
johnnycash Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Fulop - 8 Kisnorbo - 6 McAuley - 7 N'Gotty - 8.8 Mattock - 8 Stearman - 6.5 Clemence - 8.5 Chambers - 8 Kish - 6 Hume - 5.5 Fryatt - 7.5 DJ - 5 Kents - 5.5 Maybury - 6
TheBlinding Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Flicking through one of the news papers today, their ratings were something like: Fulop 6 Stearman 6 N'gotty 6 Kisnorbo 7 McAuley 7 Mattock 5 Clemence 6 Chambers 5 Kishishev 6 Hume 5 Fryatt 5 Their star man was Reo Coker
syston_fox Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Teletext had everyone at 8s except a couple of players on 7
Thracian Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 how did he contribute nothing when he set up the goal? I thought that was RS but apologies if I was mistaken. Have adjust my ratings accordingly.
Daggers Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 how did he contribute nothing when he set up the goal? Let's wait to see the highlights before chalking that one pass up to him shall we? But it was Leicester who took the lead when Fryatt latched on to a James Chambers' pass and slotted past Taylor. Did you watch the game, did you see him play?
BedsFox Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 I'll stake my next jaffa cake on it campbell made a long pass, it crept under Chambers legs and into the path of Fryatt Campbell for the assist
TheBlinding Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Yeh, if memory serves, there was a long ball half cleared to DJ, took it down on his chest, he played it up front towards Fryatt, Fryatt missed it and it went through to Chambers, he missed it, Mellberg missed it, Fryatt got round to the ball eventually, everyone was screaming shoot but he kept dribbling to a v.acute and squeezed it under Taylors arm - Cue celebrations
