Anyone go to the Harlow Town cup match in 1980? Or the replay.

Never heard of it before but was just looking around (Amazingly lost) and found the story of it.

Just wondering if anyone had been to the game?

I didn't go but would be fascinated to hear about it.

I went to the 1st game, not the replay. I remember thinking when we drew them that at least we'd get through to the next round.

They scored in the last minute in the 1st game right?:unsure:

Sounds worse than wycombe... :o

Something like that, it was a long time ago. It was a fair result iirc.

Always remember Jock Wallace saying he was physically sick afterwards due to the outcome.

I remember the remorseless piss taking after the game. :(

i went but its only a vague memory and the most vivid thing that i can recall was standing on a steep grass embankment ( thats all the stands were ) and gradually sliding down to the front as it was very wet that night ; we had to keep hacking into the muddy bank with our heels to get a foot hold ; i do remember the score though :(

I remember going to watch us away to Cambridge Utd in a pre-season friendly one day about 20 years ago and that was bad enough lol

I went to both games.

The second was held at Harlow Town's ground, which was a sports centre with a running track round the pitch and a dry ski sloop behind 1 goal.

We stood on a grass bank, and I remember Ian Wilson warmed up as sub for 89 minutes and never came on.

We were utter rubbish in both games.

I went to the first game. We battered Harlow for 90 minutes but only scored once. They then nicked an equaliser with their only shot at goal in the 93rd minute.

The replay, for which a certain G. Lineker was recalled to the side, was horrendous. They scored just before half-time and I recall the Radio Leicester commentator saying with 20 minutes to go we were never going to equalise.

I bet none of the squad were seen out on the town for a while afterwards.

Even winning the Div.2 title that season didn't quite make up for the feelings of desolation and despondency that swept through the city in the wake of that result.

It was a thousand times worse than Wycombe. At least then we had the excuse of losing to another professional team.

Our youngest posters should take some comfort from these words. Our rubbishness transcends the ages.
