Floating Fox Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 Anyone go to the Harlow Town cup match in 1980? Or the replay. Never heard of it before but was just looking around (Amazingly lost) and found the story of it. Just wondering if anyone had been to the game?

Webbo Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 I went to the 1st game, not the replay. I remember thinking when we drew them that at least we'd get through to the next round.

potter3 Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 1980, was TPH even born then? This match was mentioned on here a few months back I think
Milky Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 Hang on, TPH, Golden oldie? Surely he wasn't even born yet in 1980.
l444ry Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 Always remember Jock Wallace saying he was physically sick afterwards due to the outcome.

Zingari Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 i went but its only a vague memory and the most vivid thing that i can recall was standing on a steep grass embankment ( thats all the stands were ) and gradually sliding down to the front as it was very wet that night ; we had to keep hacking into the muddy bank with our heels to get a foot hold ; i do remember the score though
Lord Nibblington Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 1980, was TPH even born then? This match was mentioned on here a few months back I think No he wasn't. Unless he's been tricking us all these years.
Geo V Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 I remember going to watch us away to Cambridge Utd in a pre-season friendly one day about 20 years ago and that was bad enough
Anstey Fox Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 I remember going to watch us away to Cambridge Utd in a pre-season friendly one day about 20 years ago and that was bad enough I went to both games. The second was held at Harlow Town's ground, which was a sports centre with a running track round the pitch and a dry ski sloop behind 1 goal. We stood on a grass bank, and I remember Ian Wilson warmed up as sub for 89 minutes and never came on. We were utter rubbish in both games.
Ultra Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 I went to the first game. We battered Harlow for 90 minutes but only scored once. They then nicked an equaliser with their only shot at goal in the 93rd minute. The replay, for which a certain G. Lineker was recalled to the side, was horrendous. They scored just before half-time and I recall the Radio Leicester commentator saying with 20 minutes to go we were never going to equalise. I bet none of the squad were seen out on the town for a while afterwards. Even winning the Div.2 title that season didn't quite make up for the feelings of desolation and despondency that swept through the city in the wake of that result. It was a thousand times worse than Wycombe. At least then we had the excuse of losing to another professional team.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.... I wasn't even born for the next 9 years! How funny!

Our youngest posters should take some comfort from these words. Our rubbishness transcends the ages.
Lillehamring Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 i was attending games at this stage (north stand - off course) but don't remember hearing about this til many years later, i tink my parents must have shielded it from my delicate young mind, hid the newspapers, and stuff...

The People's Hero Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 I'm only 23. They must have been misled by the amount of failure I've allegedly packed in to my few years, eh Thracian?
blueoveru Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 Came up from the I.O.W. to watch the game at Harlow...... on the way to pick up the sisters kids,, and we were playing well in the League at that time, bloody awful match cant remember much but did'nt half take some stick when I went back to work at B.H.C.
Floating Fox Posted 6 October 2007 Author Posted 6 October 2007 TPH and Thracian are the same age. Ultra is younger than both.
