Anderlecht v Bayern Munich,

Bayer Leverkusen v Hamburg,

Bolton v Sporting,

Fiorentina v Everton,

Getafe v Benfica,

Marseille v Zenit St Petersburg,

Rangers v Werder Bremen,

Tottenham v PSV

Tough draw for english teams, rangers have got a decent one.

I know its only half time but its going as I thought, everton somehow are 0-0 after being battered, tottenham losing, bolton surprised me and rangers 1-0...yes!

Like I said when the draw was made, very tough for spurs especially having the first game t home, PSV very good side. Always prefer to play teams who werent in the CL.

:( @ Everton.

And how are Bolton winning? Again. lol

They're like the Middlesbrough of the competition a couple of years back.

Man should I have bet tonight or what. All english teams lost or drew, and the one team I predicted to win are 2-0 up. I'm Sure oliver holt in the morning newspapers will predict an all english uefa cup final.

When will they ever learn?

Should've been 3-0 :frusty:

A breath of fresh air this Rangers team tonight with 7 homegrown players.

Gotta love the 3 under 21 subs rule.

I read an article today about rooney stating the premiership was the best in the world and that the 3 (possibly all 4) english teams getting through the later stages of the CL proves it. Maybe we have the strongest top 4 but the league as a whole surely isnt the strongest.

I think the uefa cup is a better indicator on how strong a league is and looking at premiership teams records it no way can be the strongest.

One win in 16 years of the premiership is pretty bad.

Italy I think was 6 wins

spain 3

germany 2

all have more wins than premiership teams.

I want british teams to win as much as the next guy but it irratates me when the media constantly hypes up the premiership based on no facts at all.

And it seems the press view has influenced the public too.

Premiership is good, very good but it aint the best.

Surely this only judges the top 5/6 sides in each league?

Things don't look good for Everton and Spurs for me, and Bolton too have got a very tough game away now.

On the other hand, it's looking good for the Gers!

My point is any league can have a strong top 2 or 3, but further down shows a true strength as only top 6/7 qualify for european competitions you can only base it on that.

Maybe rooney and the rest think the premiership over the last few years has become the strongest well if thats true then we still havent won much, and looking at the results tonight I cant see english teams winning it.

Easy to say that, but the UEFA cup is a strange competition in my eyes and a hard one to gain any conclusions from, I don't think last nights results show that much as A) The ties aren't over yet and B) PSV and Sporting are both always up in the top 3/4 in their respective leagues were as Bolton and Spurs clearly aren't. If we're talking about current strength the Italians have had a shocker in the UEFA cup this season, most of their teams went out in the first round. Bolton, relegation strugglers in our league, put out Atheltico who are flying in La Liga.

But most teams who qualify for the UEFA dont necessarily have bad seasons the year after. Also what about our lack of success in the CL?

Well we've had 3 finalists in the last 3 years. 3/4 semi finalists were English last year. And isn't it something 11 victories for each of the big 3 leagues? I don't know. It's tight anyway.

Indeed I wouldn't say we're underperforming. People need to remember they're are alot of good teams in Europe. English clubs aren't going to win it every year.
