Thracian Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 I'm delighted to hear that. I have been saying on other threads that we shouldn't rely on the younger kids to come in and expect too much from them from the get go and we need to "manage" them and today GM did that with both Mattock and King in different ways.Yes he has made errors in team selection and in his substitutions at times but he is man enough to not dig his heels in and be stubborn and seems likely to change it where he sees fit. He is growing on me too and its nice to hear he has a sense of humour with the ginger Mourinho chant. I see no reason to smugly congratulate Megson on his King manoeuvre. It if hadn't been for Fulop that could well have cost us the win. Kishishev I might have understood.
Daz.I Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 I'm Not Just saying it because we won yesterday but this mans really growing on me I think Megson has what it takes to take this club forward I like his tactics and I am quite looking forward to MM giving him a bit of money to play with in january, Gerry Taggarts a legend but lets get behind Megson first

Simon Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 Tbh, he hasnt had much time in training. since he has joined it has been weekened match and a week match. I think we will be able to judge him as a manager after this 2 week break, see if he brings in a few loans and see wht he does to the system of play, maybe he can properly work with the players on areas we are lacking. He's concentrated on the defence since he's arrived and it seem's to of work wonders with a few solid displays by the back three. I feel his next job is the attack. We have been lacking goals by forward players, and with our best 2 midfielder out injured, it would be pointless working on the midfield at this moment of time. He need's to get the attackers being more aware of eachother's whereabout's, and communication within eachother to get them working there way for attempts at goal . I've been one of Ginger Mourinho's biggest critics, but that would appear to me to be a spot on assessment. I'm not sure he actually needed to do a massive rebuild, but he seems to think he does, so for now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 Still early days people. But at least the bloke can string a couple of sentences together and give the impression he knows what needs doing. The trick will, of course, be doing it. But up to this point, I'm on his side.

He's a useless tosser,if he wasn't he wouldn't have been unemployed for so long..I don't have to justify this.....just wait and see!
demon_dog Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 It seems to me that this time we have a manager who actually knows what he is talking about. Unlike MA who knew how to spin the bullsh*t and say what he thought the fans wanted to hear. TBH I think that despite being a carrot top, he knows what is required to get us back into the top flight. If it means boring 1 - 0 wins so be it. Who cares provided we get back into the premiership. N.B. Or should I have said "A carrot top that's beginning to thin".
Milky Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 All of these tactical things people are spouting are very easy from behind a computer screen, and with no inside knowledge of professional football.
Geo V Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 I see no reason to smugly congratulate Megson on his King manoeuvre. It if hadn't been for Fulop that could well have cost us the win. Kishishev I might have understood. I wasnt at the game but I imagine taking the lad off to what should have been a generous round of applause would work wonders for his confidence. As I have always said, its about praising people for there decisions so if taking King off to get a round of applause and dropping Mattock (regardless of injury) is your in your opinion, then thats down to you. It has proved to be right in my eyes. As for Fulop, I saw the two good saves he made on the Championship this morning and they were quality. However highly I rate the bloke (which it sky high at the moment as my player of the month vote goes to show), I cant help but point out that he gets paid to stop the ball from going into the net!!!. Thats his job for christ sakes! Stop all this rubbish about how it could have been all so different if this and if that! Down the years we have had keepers that were capable of making good and great saves from an era that you probably watched like Banks, Shilton and Wallington to the Walker, Flowers and Keller performances in recent times. Taking King off in your mind somehow constitutes to Sheff Weds having more shots and if it wasn't for Fulop who actually only had about 3 saves to make all game didnt get there, then Megson would be wrong right??!! Jesus wept
Fox in a Box Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 Gary Megson was quick to pass off the plaudits to his players following City's gutsy 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday.Megson had gone into the game with two away victories under his belt as City boss - both coming in the Carling Cup against Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. But a Gareth McAuley header and an own goal from Akpo Sodje gave the Leicester chief his all important first league victory since taking over the club midway through September. He said: "It's not about me - it's about the players. If you are successful as a football club then it will be the players that make you successful - not visa versa. There is too much emphasis shown on who is actually the manager. We put them out there and we organise them. We try to sign as good a players as we can when the opportunity comes along, but when they go out on the pitch it becomes about them as people and the honesty that they show. Today they can all take a massive amount of credit. "Teams will never succeed, regardless of who they are, without desire and effort. They are things that the opposition cannot stop. They can stop you dribbling and shooting but they can't stop you running and that overwhelming desire to win games. That's what we need because if you have got that in your squad you have got a terrific starting point. "I don't think we could have shown anymore effort, honesty and endeavour than we actually did, but we can show more quality - certainly in that last third. If we'd have just taken our time and chosen our passes a lot better then we could have won by a lot more than we did. "The midfield worked their socks off - as they did the other day against Wolves. Today we were playing a right-back, and right winger and an 18-year-old kid in the middle and they have done terrific. But that's what we have got. When we chucked them in it would have been quite easy for them to throw the towel in and say 'I don't fancy this because I'm a right-back and I shouldn't be playing here.' But they didn't do that and great credit to them." The City supporters directed a chorus of 'Ginger Mourinho' at their new manager midway through the second half - much to the amusement of the Leicester bench. Megson added: "I have been called Ginger allsorts in the past in the past but that is a new one for me! I could hear some sniggering on the bench behind me and I turned round to find Iain Hume and Matty Fryatt killing themselves laughing like two little schoolboys. I asked them what they found so funny and they told me. It's obviously funny. But that is a lot easier to deal with for me. The football club needs everyone together, including the supporters, They are the biggest asset we have got. "This club hasn't done a great deal for the last couple of years but we still get 23 or 24,000 week in week out. We have got to try and live up to the quality that they show. To do that we have got to have togetherness." Joe Mattock missed the game with a calf strain, but Megson confirmed that he had already taken the decision to rest his young star. He said: "I spoke to Joe on Thursday and I told him that I wouldn't be playing him because he is a young lad who has played a massive amount of football in a short space of time. He was just looking like he had gone over the top a little bit in terms of his intensity. But he had also picked up a thigh strain on that day which was probably due to tiredness." What a great song, I wonder where it started??? Answers please!!! See thread from 27th Sept! http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=42643
Kent Fox Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 I am just amused that the song has taken off. Kudos to the fans and to whoever thought of it I do actually know but it will go to his head if I say..
Fox4ever Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007  I'm still not convinced and will continue to sing for Gerry Taggert  That's a sure fire way of getting him sacked. You cannot undermine the manager whoever he is by singing for his assistant.

davieG Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 That's a sure fire way of getting him sacked. You cannot undermine the manager whoever he is by singing for his assistant. But he's not just any old assistant he's an LCFC Legend and would have his names chanted even if he turned up playing for forest/cov/derby. He's the man that did to W**e what we'd all like to do, for that alone a statue should be erected in his image. Legend

davieG Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 Gerry Taggart is not a Leicester legend. Perhaps not in the 'true footballing' sense but for what he did to W*** I will forever be indebted to him.
Dames Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 Gerry Taggart is not a Leicester legend. He's not quite in the Elliot and Walsh catagory but he's not too far off. He definatly was a favorite if not a legend.
The People's Hero Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 Just to come back to the point about Chambers - I think Megson does indeed see him as a right back - and ordinarily his FIRST CHOICE right back. This was kind of highlighted when Chambers played central midfield and Stearman was called in as cover at right back as Megson mentioned a few times that a few fringe players (and he namechecked Stearman specifically) had come in and played well and perhaps fought themselves in to contention once Megson has everyone available. Of course we won't see the proof of any of this until we have a fit and competitive pool of players to pick from.

I`d be surprised in that to be honest. I think he feels Stears has done enough to keep hold of that spot for now.
Guest Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 I would rather see the roles switched, whilst we are struggling for midfielders. For all of his faults, Stearman is more comfortable attacking than Chambers, and we should really have the better defender playing in defence.

You might be right - but when he turned up and evaluated the squad, he obviously saw Chambers as a right back. Like I say - you might well be right.

I suppose its healthy for the squad if we have all this competition for places with decent players but I fear for Kaebi`s future now as I cant see how he gets a place on the bench nevermind for the team. I wonder who GM is planning to bring in on loan over the next two weeks as he has been vocal in saying that we need to add numbers and at the moment, he seems to be linked to central defenders
