Candidcamera Posted 27 October 2007 Posted 27 October 2007 I thought we hit upon something today - Hume in midfield was terrific. If only the wing backs got forward a bit more and had accuracy of centres we might be more of a threat in attack. Well done leicester.

If only the wing backs got forward a bit more and had accuracy of centres we might be more of a threat in attack. Well done leicester. Totally agree. He linked up the attack and midfield brilliantly. Whenever the ball broke in midfield he was always there in space to be picked out by the likes of Newton. Usually there is a gap there and so there is no easy pass and we sometimes give away position. I felt Hume filled that gap today very well

FleckneyFox Posted 27 October 2007 Posted 27 October 2007 Fulop - 7.5 - Solid as ever 1 spill from a corner in the second half but recovered well to gather it McAuley - 6.5 - Solid in the air was a bit quiet decent game N'Gotty - 6.5 - Odejayi was a real test for him dealt with him fairly well solid on the ball Kisnorbo - 7.5 - Won all his headers looked solid and got a goal Stearman - 6.5 - Looked a lot more comfortable today couple of good darting runs Sheehan - 6.5 - Was a little quiet but left boot was as deadly as ever Newton - 7 - At points awful wasnt on a wavelength with anyone else other times excellent Wesolowski - 6 - looked good until he went off Hume - 7.5 - Some great touches and good passing he made a difference today Fryatt - 6.5 - Some good running but poor passing John - 6.5 - Looks ok but not the class act i thought hed be didnt get much time on the ball scuffed shot for the goal doesnt have the best touch Chambers - 6 - Went along quietly Cort - 0 - Whats the point hes useless id rather see Sappleton as the "big man" on the bench Taggs & Burrows - 10 - Done amazing job to get them to play like that after the week they've had Ref - 0 - Standard of refereeing is so poor now gave a FK every time someone challenged for a header gave Sheehan a yellow for pulling someones shirt and when John's brought down in the area? nothing the FA needs to do something about the refs.

Thracian Posted 27 October 2007 Posted 27 October 2007 Fulop 7 1 very good save and several excellent catches.N'gotty 7 very steady as usual Kisnorbo 7 well taken goal and some good interceptions. Mccauley 6 ok really about as far as it goes. Stearman 5 Some good things but positional sense not very good. some reasonable work going forward. Sheehan 6 Excellent corner for the goal. Not bad but shows lack of experience with his positional play. Weso 6 ok until injured Newton 7.5 the first 20 mins were awful but after that and especially after weso went off he had a good game. probably mom. one thunderous tackle in the 2nd half. Also some neat passing and good forward movement. Defensively not as good but I have to admit he had a good game today. Hume 6 played far too deep to be really effective. some good defensive work but offered little going forward from dep positions. Fryatt 5 very disappointed with him today. tried hard but his lack of pace is a huge handicap. John 6 despite some poor service he did ok and showed he can finish when given a chance. Chambers 5 didn't really notice him at al. Cort 4 waste of time. useless in the air and not much better on the ground. Grateful for a win but don't let ourselves be kidded here. Barnsley were very very poor and we were not very much better. Given the current circumstances I am happy with the result but we need to be so much better if we are to seriously challenge at the right end of the table. You may think Sheehan lacks something with his positional play but Sheehan never ball watches. He covers the space. How many times do players get behind him, very rarely. And that is partly why we have such a low goals against when he plays. Sheehan is not the orthodox tight marker who stays tight and clatters his opponent. He is a genuine zonal defender. He negates attacks rather than destroys them and the effect is just as good. Many had him MoM today and there were many worse choices.

Thracian Posted 27 October 2007 Posted 27 October 2007 Someone's been drinking it seems! bollox! you editied it just before i copied it. Absolutely. And I see things more clearly on a few pints.
Flynny Posted 27 October 2007 Posted 27 October 2007 Absolutely. And I see things more clearly on a few pints. You type much more compactly, too. Its marvellous.
Thracian Posted 27 October 2007 Posted 27 October 2007 Fulop 8 (The bloke makes goalkeeping look embarrassingly easy. He's priceless and his concentration immense) Stearman 6 (Layed a part in a clean sheet but you never know which RS will turn up and today's was indifferent) McAuley 5 (It is hard to rate a defender in a clean sheet so low but, one vital clearance apart, his distribution was woeful) N'Gotty 7 (Steady as a rock. My kind of player). Kisnorbo 7 (Is this bloke trying to improve his distribution? Suddenly he is doing his brilliant best as a defender and passing the ball simply. Long may it continue). Sheehan 7.5 (Few mistakes and another vital assist. Involvement in six goals this season is an exceptional achievement for a left back whatever his critics might say) Wesolowski 6.5 (How he was missed when he went off injured. Class player) Hume 6.5 (Always involved and the result might well have reflected his presence) Newton 6.75 (Positive enough. His assist for the first goal lifted his confidence). Fryatt 6 (Threatened but failed to deliver). John 7 (Nothing special but his goal is what being a striker isn all about) Subs: Chambers 6 (Continued to be solid in an unfamiliar position). Cort 4 (Didn't n9otice his presence)
A fox for life Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 from the times.... link to the artiicle Star man: Patrick Kisnorbo (West Brom) <------- Player ratings. Leicester: Fulop 7, N’Gotty 7, Kisnorbo 8, McAuley 7, Stearman 6, Sheehan 7, Wesolowski 6 (Chambers 42min, 6), Newton 7, Hume 6, John 7 (Cort 73min), Fryatt 7 Barnsley: Muller 6, Foster 5, Souza 6, Nyatanga 6, Kozluk 5, Devaney 6, Togwell 6 (McCann 84min), Howard 7, Campbell-Ryce 5 (Ricketts 71min), Mostto 5 (Christensen 63min), Odejayi 5
Bryn Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Kisnorbo 7 (Is this bloke trying to improve his distribution? Suddenly he is doing his brilliant best as a defender and passing the ball simply. Many had him MoM today and there were many worse choices. Take the Sheehan tinted spectacles off Thrac. He didn't have a bad game today, and I still think he has potential, but he's a lazy git. He jogged back TWICE after he'd lost the ball yesterday when he should have sprinting and Barnsley were in behind him three times during the second half. Even when going forwars he seems to jog when he could really make some positive runs. Until he improves these aspects of his game I'll be a little bit more reserved in my judgments of him (although he's doubtless better than Porter), even if his dead ball delivery is so good.

You've probably never played wing back. For a lazy git he didn't half get into the attacking half a lot of times. If Nils had done that last season he'd have aged 10 years. Lots of good players have an laid back style but that doesn't mean they're lazy. Sheehan's never going to be the dashing about type like Tiatto but then neither is Rio Ferdinand and nor was Bobby Moore. But allow the bloke a rest occasionally. Cos I'd love our right wing-back Stearman to match Sheehan's involvement in the goals we score, for all his energetic style.
Lichfieldfox. Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Forgive me if the ratings I give are a little low but my understanding is that they are given on the players performance compared to their best form. We were poor and luckily Barnsley were worse than Sheff Utd, Wolves and QPR Fulop 6 Very little to do, looked assured Bruno 5 Steady, sloppy at times McAuley 5 See Bruno Kisnorbo 6 Extra point for goal Stearman 5 Average game, improved from Tuesday. Still left defence exposed at times Sheehan 6 Got in some crosses and linked up well. Needs to improve tracking back similar to Stearman Newton 6 Looked far better when Chambers came on, did well out of position Wesolowski 6.5 Full of energy and looked best player on pitch till injured Hume 5 Struggled in midfield, out of position Fryatt 6 Tormented their defence on a few occassions and his tackle started the move that led to the first goal John 6 Held ball up well and looks a good loan signing.Worries re injuries. Cort 3 Bring bad de Vries, disinterested. Chambers 5 Super fit but again out of position I was unconvinced by a very nervous performance with a system that does not seem to suit our available players. I just hope we give Chelski a game. Fulop may be very busy on Wednesday night.
AyewJoking Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Fulop 6 Bruno 5 McAuley 5 Kisnorbo 5 Stearman 5 Sheehan 6 Newton 6 Wesolowski 7 Hume 5 Fryatt 6 John 5 Cort 4 Chambers 5 Barnsley were pish, we'd have beat them even with Megson in charge.
morris1234 Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 i thought fryatt was one of our best players yesterday, i watched him carefully, he was willing to fight for the ball, chase down , called for it a lot and looked like he wanted to play for our team! him and john made some great runs and movement but we lack the service into them - chambers not a midfielder i repeat NOT A MIDFIELDER!
harpendenfox Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Lots of comments about Barnsley being poor. Indeed they were. But of the games I've seen live this season, QPR, Blackpool, Stoke and Sheff Utd were poor too. You've still got to beat them. There is so little of any quality in this division. If we can improve by as little as 10% we should finish around 10th, comfortably. For me that will represent progress, then next season I hope we become serious contenders. We will improve if we play Chambers at right wing back, he is a good player playing as well as he can out of position. We need Clem or Weso as the anchor mid, with Hume as the attacking mid. Just not sure about that final midfielder. I don't think it's Newton. I haven't seen King, but perhaps it is he.

I haven't seen King, but perhaps it is he. Clem, Weso and Hume is definatley our best midfield. Clem to sit in front of the back four and win the ball, pass it. Weso to never stop running, Hume to make things happen. Best combo in 3 man midfields Lennon/Makalele/Clemence Savage/Essien/Weso Izzet/Lampard/Hume Obviously not trying to compare the players but similar styles
