Webbo Posted 28 July 2008 Posted 28 July 2008 I love NKC but I'm not sure if that counts as soul or jazz. Natural Self - Art of Vibration featuring Andreya TrianaNot part of the old school but a tune I'm enjoying at the minute. New soul... Good find, really good find.
James. Posted 28 July 2008 Author Posted 28 July 2008 Good find, really good find. Credit to Jay, he introduced me to them although I've been listening to stuff off Tru Thoughts for awhile now. I got the link wrong, that song is actually called The Rising, off the album Art of Vibration (which I paid money for, by the way!). If you like that check out stuff such as: Quantic Soul Orchestra Belleruche Alice Russell Nostalgia 77 and anything else that Tru Thoughts are doing right now. Best label in the country for me. And producing the sort of music that makes claims that modern music is all shit look a bit naive. You just need to know where to look.
Webbo Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 ISSAC HAYES 1942-2008 1 of the top 10 records of all time;Issac Hayes. The theme from Shaft. I know there is a thread in general chat but it seems more appropriate here.
Jay Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Funk: That's a fantastic album and one I championed a while ago on here!! kind of soulful funky hip hop great stuff!!
James. Posted 25 September 2008 Author Posted 25 September 2008 That's a fantastic album and one I championed a while ago on here!!kind of soulful funky hip hop great stuff!! eMusic is great although 75 tunes a month is definitely not enough!
Jay Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 eMusic is great although 75 tunes a month is definitely not enough! BOOSTER PACKS DID I SAY BOOSTER PACKS!!! me being and old school emusic subscriber for about 3 years get 90 downloads a month for the same price did you see my post about the one track mixes you can find if you look hard enough?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 The Thievery Corporation AOL Session on eMusic is brilliant. I could never get into that Flow Dynamics album, sounded far too polished for my liking. Today I downloaded an album of Nigerian funk from the late 70s, absolute diamond stuff.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 October 2008 Posted 14 October 2008 I know I've mentioned this before in this thread but Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. Brilliant.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 14 October 2008 Posted 14 October 2008 I love that, I really do, it's one of me favourites. My brother had a compilation CD in the 80s of songs written by Smokey Robinson, some of which he recorded himself and others that he gave to other artists - chock full of classics, it was. Which makes it even more inexplicable that my brother bought the Go West cover version of 'Tracks of My Tears', which has to be one of the shittest things ever committed to vinyl - some things really should be left alone. It would make Smokey turn in his grave (if he were dead)

Bellend Sebastian Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 My word. I feel sorry for you, I really do. I didn't post a link to the Youtube video because it could easily be construed as being offensive

Bags Groove. Exceptional stuff.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Can't believe no one has mentioned the Sylistics yet.
Webbo Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 I was looking for Curtis Mayfield's version, but this deserves an airing.
Head Honcho Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 I think this guy was mentioned on here last year and must say this is a top tune.
purpleronnie Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 I was looking for Curtis Mayfield's version, but this deserves an airing. Curtis mayfields move on up is one of the greatest songs ever.
