CKB Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 I believe Stearman is still playing RB because Chambers is playing CM due to us being short of midfielders. Once Clemence, Hume, King and Weso are all 100% fit, then I see no excuse whatsoever to still be playing Richard ****ing Stearman at right back. Its Chambers position and he owns it. I pray that is the case, maybe i'm thinking to much with my hate towards Kenton and Newton, especially Newton..HELL! i'd rather play with 8 players if it means Chambers goes at right back and Kenton, Newton and Stearman get fooked! .. Fryatt or Hume can be our midfield! i mean that's more or less been the case anyhow for the past 4 games!
Ultra Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 im happy preston have won 3 drawn 3 and lost 1 @ lost one at home this season so decent result in my eyes Still bottom six and short on confidence. Two more points dropped. Burrows' decision to sub Campbell when we were on top confirms my suspicions he's Rob Kelly mark 2.
dandannieldanok Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 FFS how many chances do we need! And where do they find these people that ring into RL? Callum Davidson man of the match! He was a sub FFS and it's a bloody Leicester phone-in, it bares no relevance to us what-so-ever
WetFlannel Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Still bottom six and short on confidence. Two more points dropped. Burrows' decision to sub Campbell when we were on top confirms my suspicions he's Rob Kelly mark 2. probaly his last game so why should we care?

I love Weso but he's always getting fecking injured King (although promising) is still a rookie and Clem has carried the midfield virtually on his own decent back up needed to be signed in the summer but it wasn't and now we're paying the price still, a long way to go and plenty of points to go for, so everything to play for. just get us a manager Milan
Thracian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Our caretaker managers deserve some praise for turning tonight's match around so that we ended up with the better chances overall after all the doom and gloom from Colin Gibson. The bloke didn't wait five minutes to start pulling people to pieces but after Preston's predictably lively start I can't remember them peppering during the next 75 minutes and it was clear that Cort and co had some real opportunities to deliver a finish at the other end. It's a rare admission from me but I'd have taken that point tonight were it offered because our team was seriously decimated and running on empty. It may have been coincidence but from the commentary - such as it was when they weren't waffling - it sounded like we were much more solid and balanced when King came into midfield, when we were forced to ditch a third centre-half and when the full-backs pushed up a bit. Preston soon lost their early momentum and their fans showed exactly what they thought in the closing stages. Yes it's enormously frustrating to draw out ninth match of the season but that's one defeat in our last eight League matches now and how we've managed a home win and two away draws with the midfield we've had is something to be almost proud of. People like Chambers, Kenton and Kingy (today) deserve a lot of credit but also others who've rallied to the cause and done their best in unfamiliar positions. Fryatt comes to mind. Yes the bloke made a mistake in giving away a free kick. It sounded a bit nieve but it could have happened to anyone and he soon picked himself up to pose a real threat. I don't know why but I really got cheesed off listening to Gibson pulling people apart almost before the game had started - people who all actually came through to give their third decent performance in eight days and 600-odd miles of travelling.
Thracian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Still bottom six and short on confidence. Two more points dropped. Burrows' decision to sub Campbell when we were on top confirms my suspicions he's Rob Kelly mark 2. I can't really fault him subbing Campbell. Cort did well enough according to the commentary and should have settled the game. The manager was probably being sensible about sharing the workload among his strikers and makiing sure everyone stayed fit, sharp and involved. Indeed he had a warning earlier about overworking people when McAuley went off with an injury quite likely caused by an already weary body having to busy itself again after lots of sitting around on the way to games. I'm just pleased that Campbell's showing the form I'd hoped for and that Cort is showing himself capable of putting a shift in.
Ultra Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 From what I heard King was hardly in the game. Maybe the midfield injury crisis meant he was rushed back too soon.. And perhaps that was a factor in why Newton came on in the closing minutes. Once Cort came on and started making his presence felt, we started creating more chances. Both Fryatt and Campbell seemed to be working well with him. So it was a shame that the combination was split up, just when it seemed victory was within our grasp. The result was that as so often in recent seasons, we failed to turn a draw into a win. The lack of a killer instinct is something the new boss must address. Burrows and Taggart may see us to mid-table, but we should be aiming our sights somewhat higher.
Anish Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Decent enough draw, but there's no guarantee we'll win our home games, so we need to win away when we can. Like today and at Colchester for instance. It amazes me how Newton continues to be brought on as a sub - surely anyone can do a better job than him? Give Hellings a chance ffs, he can't be that bad.
Leicester Lass Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Just spoke to a friend who was at the game, she said we were ****ing awful, lucky to get a point and it was the worst performance since Sheffield Wednesday away last season.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 11 shots on target to their 5 - is that accurate? Just weak shots then?

Burrows and Taggart may see us to mid-table, but we should be aiming our sights somewhat higher. I agree about the killer instinct but it's not as if the chances didn't arise - they did and we missed them. Killer instinct can sometimes come with confidence and ours is still a bit lacking what with all the injuries, uncertainties and team shuffling. Unfortunately for Burrows/Taggart they can only work with who they've got available which isn't overmuch right now. As for King I got the feeling he just did what Megson asked of him - he kept playing the ball simply to people's feet and making himself available. His job, I think, was to make everyone else's job a bit easier he seemed to do that reasonably effectively considering how long he's been out.
Vacamion Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 We were woeful the first half an hour - we looked frail defensively and when we got hold of the ball, we had nowhere to go with it, and there was none of the bombing forward in numbers that we showed at least a bit of last time out. Luckily, Preston weren't that good either. 2nd half, we perked up. We even occasionally mounted attacks. I thought Fryatt was, at times, our most inventive and penetrative player. Fulop had another strong game, NGotty was solid, Kenton worked his socks off and Cort caused a lot of trouble when he came on and worked well with Campbell and Fryatt. Both sides had chances to win it last 10 minutes in what ended up being a better game than it looked like being 20 minutes in. I think a point away from home with our injury list is no bad outcome...
Thracian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Just spoke to a friend who was at the game, she said we were ****ing awful, lucky to get a point and it was the worst performance since Sheffield Wednesday away last season. Some friend. I bet you feel great now.
mancfox Posted 7 November 2007 Posted 7 November 2007 Went to the game tonight and i thought we were very good value for the draw and should have won it especially from cort's one on one chance when his first touch let him down. 1st half was awful didn't seem interested and although preston scored they didn't really test Fulop and Fryatt had the best chance of the half. Second half different story. King i thought did very well and it helped to have someone who made simple passes to feet in the middle of the park. Fryatt, Kenton and N'gotty were plus points. Thought Fryatt was easily our most dangerous player and was very unlucky not to score as was the case against Colchester. Didn't think taking Campbell off was a bad decision as we needed to stabilise the midfield a bit more and still nearly won it. I also think Carl Cort is starting to finally pull his weight. Bright performance from the big man. Stearman has to be dropped. Lost concentration a couple of times and looks off the boil. Sort yourself out lad! I would pick Chambers in that position when clem, weso are fit. If we had two central midfielders i think we would have won the game comfortably. End of.
FilboFox Posted 7 November 2007 Posted 7 November 2007 ERM... Am I the only one who is getting rather annoyed with this persistant drawing that we seem to be doing? W - 3 D - 8 L - 3 Its not bad considering we have only lost 3... but some of those draws ought to have been wins... and then you look at the other side, only 3 wins in 14 matches... we just don't seem to have that killer instinct right now... we need someone to motivate us and install some confidence in the team as a collective unit as otherwise we will do really quite badly this season...
FilboFox Posted 7 November 2007 Posted 7 November 2007 McAuley and DJ both picked up groin strains. Bummer... two of our best players... thats all we need!

I prefer to think of it as only 3 defeats in 14 matches. Saves my sanity that way. I'd be happy with all these draws away from home if only we were winning more of the home matches to compensate for it!

Im not too worried we haven't had a midfield for the last 2 & the base is in place its only a matter of time until we start winning more than losing. Burnley is a definate must win for me though 4-8-3 isn't bad but 3-8-4 & 3-9-3 are!

Raj Posted 7 November 2007 Posted 7 November 2007 31 more draws and 1 more win will get us to safety :D Seriously though. Draws away are fine IF you have a decent home record. Ours is unbelievably shite! We need to concentrate on getting some decent home wins. At the moment our away form is putting more pressure on our home form. It should be the other way round
dpjfox Posted 7 November 2007 Posted 7 November 2007 Doesn't have to be that tho does it? i mean don't we have some people in the reserves, NOT mentioning any names..but surely it's worth just giving them a goHell i'd rather just stick two youth players in midfield, least they are MIDFIELDERS.. Darren Kenton, Shaun Newton and James Chambers midfield is laughable, Newton and Kenton for me shouldn't even be starters and Chambers should be right back replacing that excuse for a footballer Stearman I went to the game thought Kenton was our best player although we did improve when King came on.After a 15 minute onslaught by PNE in the first half we were the better team, better chances, should have won, considering the injuries it was ok.
