shen Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 1.England/Croatia2.England/Croatia 3.Ukraine 4.Belarus 5.Kazahkstan 6.Andorra Belarus won't be easy, didn't they beat Holland on Wednesday? I'd worry a bit if I were you. Those away ties at Ukraine, Croatia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are rarely fun trips...
FleckneyFox Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Obviously Croatia and Ukraine are gonna be tough. Belarus have ability to cause prblems with Hleb, Kazakhstan and Andorra shouldnt cause any problems. Still think we have the best players but hows our team gonna look look by the end of the qualifiers?
shen Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 9 groups. 8 of the second placed teams will play play-offs. The best second placed team (in terms of points) will go through automatically with the winners. Slight correction. The best 2nd-placed team DOESN't go through. The worst 2nd-placed team is OUT, while the other 8 play eachother in playoffs. Only 13 European teams go through to the World Cup.

DB11 Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 How many of the current England team will make it though? I bet Beckham will have retired and Carson might end up being first choice keeper by then
Floating Fox Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Group 7 = Group of Death. Correct. 4 Sides that could qualify in that one & Luithania are no pushovers.
Phube Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 What... you expect me to read ALL the posts in this thread!!!??
Maybes Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 How many of the current England team will make it though? I bet Beckham will have retired and Carson might end up being first choice keeper by then Or Green. Or Robinson. Or many others.
Finnegan Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Your off on a rocker. You'll finish 4th. Germay Russia Finland Wales You'll never qualify. You have to be slightly off your rocker to be a Wales fan and keep your faith, really. What's the point in looking at the group and going "Meh, oh well." That's about as good a chance as we'll ever get. But you've also got to be off your rocker to write off any of the British sides. If Northern Ireland (who can field a weaker best first 11 to us, really) can take their group to the last day against Spain and Sweden, Scotland can almost upset arguably the two best teams in Europe (if not the world) and three years ago Mark Hughes can put up a fight and almost win a group of Italy, Serbia/Montenegro, Finland and co' then there's absolutely no reason why a well managed unit of the current Welsh squad can't make a go of second place in that group. We're supposed to tremble at the "might" of Russia because you flopped? A few years ago they were toss, and you say "if" they keep Gus Hiddink - but how long has Gus Hiddink realistically stayed in any one management job? He had good campaigns with South Korea and Australia and what happened afterwards...? I'm not delluded, I'm in no way claiming that's it, we've qualified or we're a quality side - but we're most certainly improving. Victory in Bulgaria, a draw in Germany and against Ireland - all with Tosh's babies. He's got nearly another full year to get organised (or get replaced.) and I'll be optimistic again when the time comes. Finland are toss, Azerbaijan and the like are no brainers. C'mon Wales! Cymru am byth!
ASH17LCFC Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 We won't win in Ukraine for sure, we won't win in Croatia for sure. 2 draws are the best we can hope for and if we have a English manager in charge we shall not be going to the world cup in 2010. This group is alot tougher then most of you are thinking. Remember we haven't qualify for EURO 08 for a reason.

Brainy Posted 25 November 2007 Author Posted 25 November 2007 Remember we haven't qualify for EURO 08 for a reason. Our manager was shit. Now he's gone. Nein problem.
ASH17LCFC Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Our manager was shit. Now he's gone. Nein problem. No wasn't just the manager, the players where just as bad as he was. He only picks the team. He can't play the game for them. Still a better manager might get these so called superstars playing better.

Jack Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 I would expect us to qualify this group. Croatia will be strong as we know and also Ukraine will be a tricky tie, but I expect us to qualify through this group.
Lord Nibblington Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Could've been worse. But I do like the general lack of understanding on this thread about how we actually have to top the group to qualify automatically.
stez Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 i'd forgotten about the draw today, (grantham christmas fair) we've gotten off quite lightly there! could've been so much worse. not really a group of death in there either. i presume croatia are the new poland (who we used to draw every single competition!)
MC Prussian Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Another WC draw. Another day in paradise. Another opportunity for everyone to comment. By the looks of it, we have an "easy" group. Same goes to England. But already now, people are trying to make up their mind about the outcome of the qualifying games. Tell you, it's not going to be "easy". The amount of pushovers in international football is diminishing every new year, and putting your own team high up there in the table before even one single game has been played is simply stupid. Croatia, Ukraine and Belarus are TOUGH. Especially away. I wouldn't count on glorious England to obtain "automatic" qualification just because you're England. (On a sidenote, I hate it when I can already see Germany going through the "easy" way again... Lucky feckers, the lot of them )
Joe. Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 No excuses whatsoever if we don't qualify from this group. We've been handed a kind draw in my opinion, we could have got a much tougher top seed.
Ultra Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 Some tough trips ahead. It's how we do in these away games that will decide our fate. The home games should be fine. Even Croatia are beatable if we have a full team and a half-decent manager.
