BBC and Central really get my goat....

Recommended Posts

East Midlands Today and Central News are so biased towards Nottingham it is untrue. Programme after programme just highlight news stories in Nottingham. It is starting to pi55 me off.

I appreciate that the main BBC East Mids offices and the Central News team are based in Nottingham, but they are supposed to highlight news across the Midlands. Both programmes are so far up Nottinghams arse its untrue, especially that Dennis Coathe and that ginger trollope who loves all things Forest. Aaaaargggh!!

Its got so bad that I've just submitted an official complaint to the BBC as I refuse to pay my license fee for this drivel... I fear that this will come to no avail but I needed to vent my anger somehow.... :@

I should save your breath as I believe there are moves a foot by both BBC and ITV to do away with the West & East Midlands News and just have Midlands News then all you'll get is the Brum based clubs!

Well they do have more murders and shootings, so it's only right they get the Lion share of the news...

Well the standard of BBC Radio Leicester is nothing to shout about is it!

I listened to some of Barber & Guppy on Satdi and was appauled at the standard of commentary. At some point it was just blank air then telling me about the nitters and fook all to do with LCFC! Guppy must be the most boring bloke going aswell!

Barber = Shaggertwat!

However I do agree with the original point and It gets me annoyed too!

Don't expect any improvement. They're a shit organisation, puppets and manipulators for the Government, full of known political propagandists and they've been found to shame the words fairness and impartiality as you have found for our area in general.

Only this year they were exposed in other ways. From Children in Need to Comic Relief, phone-ins were faked and viewers conned.

The BBC admitted at the time that six shows, including charity appeals Comic Relief, Sports Relief and Children In Need, had deceived viewers by using fake competition winners for viewer phone-ins. That was pre-meditated and calculated malpractice not the result of simple mistakes.

All BBC phone-in competitions were suspended and John Whittingdale, chairman of the Commons media select committee, said at the time: "These are astounding deceptions — the whole credibility of the television industry is now under question."

The best answer is to switch off. It is a rare occasion I listen to anything from the BBC and when I do (Radio Leicester and John Barber) I invariably regret it.

It's a scandal that anyone should be forced to pay a licence fee for the BBC if they wish to watch television.

That may be true, I don't know but you make it sound like the so called Independent TV is err independent, it certainly not innocent of all the above. The problem is not whether independent or government mouth pieces the problem is that ambitious, ruthless egotists run these establishments so a dig at the BBC alone seems somewhat disingenuous at the very least.

Licence fee aside of course.

The licence fee makes a difference I'm afraid.

It wasn't the subject of the post but I've no flag to fly for Independent television either as you mention it.

I could only stand having Sky for about six months before it had to go and if it wasn't for my wife being a bit of a film buff I doubt we'd have television at all.

On that basis though you can't rely on any news media for the truth, personally I like to dip into all of them at least there's more lines to read between to true to ascertain the truth and even then I don't believe any of them  that's why I try to avoid getting involved in these 'political' debates on here you never know what the the real truth is.

It was like that when I was a kid, it's why I detest all West Midland clubs.

I'm no fan of Forest but you would have thought winning the European Cup would have warranted more coverage than mid table mediocrity from Birmingham City.

same here, i used to hate watching it back then, and as they're planning to re-merge them it will be like 'calender' which we can get here, which is supposed to be yorkshire humberside and lincolnshire, and all we get is leeds/sheffield/bradford then they all split off for 5 minutes of very local news where we get lincoln/hull news....great!

central is also supposed to include our part of lincolnshire, but it doesnt....unless 'angel of death' beverly allett is doing something.

You're right someone has to be killed for Lincolnshire to be on Central.

You wouldn't have said this if you'd watched Newsnight last night. The "reporters" on there were steaming into the government with undisguised glee, although on this occasion they had good reason (a Labour boss was caught fiddling the books and had to resign).

And ITV have been far worse at rigging phone-ins, from GMTV to Ant and Dec.

It's a sad state of affairs when Rupert Murdoch's Sky is hailed as a beacon of integrity.

Although that may last too long, as Murdoch wants to take it downmarket into a British version of Fox.

you wanna try 5live! jesus, they just love a political crisis. there was a mp on there the other day making a perfectly straight forward comment about hospital waiting lists and the host was laying into him for all she was worth. she was quite rightly hammered later by correspondents....although they only read those out as if to say 'oooh, look how honest and open and fair we are'

i hope sky news doesn't get foxed, it's actually quite good as it is.

and as for lincs getting in the news when someone's murdered, usually even that doesn't make it, due to a nottinghamshire woman stitching the regions largest patchwork blanket, or something!

Here is my reply...

Dear Mr Robinson

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'East Midlands Today'.

I understand you feel the programme is biased towards Nottingham and that there is insufficient coverage of other towns and cities in the East Midlands.

The choice of news stories to report in our programmes is frequently very difficult. Editorial staff always have more news reports than can be fitted into the time available. Their choice has to be selective and no matter how carefully such decisions are made, they are always aware that some people may disagree with them. Unlike newspapers, news programmes do not have the luxury of the inside pages or specialist sections that enable newspapers to carry a wide range of reports.

I would like to assure you that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Feedback of this nature helps us when making decisions about future BBC programmes and services and your comments will play a part in this process.

Thank you for contacting us with your concerns.

Regards

Cait Doherty
