Fulop - 6 - Possibly at fault for the goal.

Stearman - 6

McAuley - 5, weak showing from both center backs, IMO.

Kisnorbo - 5

Sheehan - 6, full backs looked the stronger of our defenders.

Newton - 5, why does he keep starting?

Clemence - 3, I'm sorry to do a BartonFox and knock everyone's hero - but why? What a shocking showing, today. Wasted nearly everything.

King - 6.5, took his goal very well and never really put a foot out of line, that I can remember. But clearly not the inspirational creator Thrac makes out.

Hayes - 6 - Shows signs of promise, will run with the ball, can put in a good cross and wins a lot of free kicks. Poor balance and his passing on the ground isn't great.

Hume - 6, Headless chicken? Fair play to him, won far more in the air than a man about a foot taller than him, but terrible end product. Wasted the best chance of the match and probably could have started a 4+ - 0 rout, Soton were dire and lacking confidence until he missed.

Cort - 4, What a waste of space. Doesn't do anything, no movement, no aerial ability. No anything. Only scores higher than Clemence because he had less of the ball to give away.

Subs

Sappleton - 6, looked really promising, I think. Achived more in the first five minutes of being on than Cort did all game. Let's not get unrealistic, it's his first senior appearance, right? Looked decent enough.

Chambers - 5, didn't really get any service to make an impact.

N Gotty - N/A

Holloway - 6 1/2. Made the right decisions, I feel, thought Kissa upfront was an act of desperation. I like that he plays positive and makes changes early, where needed. Though I don't think he quite has full emotional control of the team so far. Today was a real slip in motivation / inspiration.

Soton - 3. fooking woeful. One good move all match and they scored, we should be embarassed.

No numerical rating, dont deserve it.

Fulop- At fault for the goal.

Stearman- **** off. Now. Skinned numerous times. The best was when the was a ball to be won, Dyer got there before him, Stearman thought 'Right you little ****er, im gona knobble you for all the times you've done me today' - he tried, but bounced off someone whos 5 foot nothing and built the same.

Kisnorbo- Poor, at fault for the goal. Kicked it out under minimal pressure for their goal.

Big Mac- Poorer. Could of been at fault for 2 goals on another day.

Sheehan- Decent, a few good set pieces as normal.

Newton- Poor, seems scared to take control, over the hill i think.

Clemence- Poor- but at least he tried to do things instead of freeloading and therefore not making any mistakes like the rest. Shame he had to play like this after that silly 'Clemence overrated' thread, the numbskulls might actually think they're right.

King- Apart from the goal, average. simple ball every time.

Hayes- Decent, put some great balls in that 2 decent strikers would of put away. Seems to drift infield a bit though, causing the team to lose its shape. Strange.

Hume- This running around business, giving it 100%, does'nt do it for me anymore. Not good enough.

Cort- Poor, ball bounced off him, but booing him is'nt gona do him any good. Hopefully it will make Ollie realise he aint good enough though.

Subs:

Chambers- Didnt notice he was on.

Sappleton- Damn right Thracian, this guy is nowhere near first team and if he thinks he is he can **** off back to QPR.

N'Gotty- N/A

Holloway- This striker injury crisis has come at just the wrong time. The sooner DJ and John are back, the better.

Fulop - 5.5 - Shot stopping was decent enough dealt with crosses well but distribution was poor.

Stearman - 5 - Was always going to find it tough to mark Dyer

McAuley - 5 - Defensively hes good but he always wants the ball to long

Kisnorbo - 4.5 - Was dire today kept losing his men poor distribution

Sheehan - 6.5 - Was decent not to many mistakes couple of decent balls into the box

Newton - 4.5 - Blows hot and cold couple of decent runs but wants to keep the ball to long

King - 6 - Excellent goal looked calm on the ball went missing for long periods though

Clemence - 5 - Poor today got tackled to much again poor passing just poor overall

Hayes - 6 - Looked lively at times?

Hume - 5 - Another poor performance always getting tackled wanted to many touches

Cort - 3 - Thats for the small effort he made in the first ten minutes and a few flick ons doesnt look bothered just trots around aimlessly

Chambers - 4 - Was poor today couldnt keep the ball

Sappleton - 5 - Didnt have very long to make his mark nothing special

N'Gotty - N/A - Not on long enough

Im not sure wheter to go to West Brom if we do bad midweek chances are i wont go was terrible today how are defence are best in the league i dont know every home game teams run rings around them and they never get their tackles in. To be honest i did think it was a handbal from Clem. Accidental? im not sure. Inside the area? im not sure. Certainly poor though.

Fulop - 6 Did what he had too, less than average kicking

Stearman - 4 Awful. Put few tackles in, didn't close people down, lost the ball too easily, give either Maybury, Kenton or Chambers a chance, they can't do any worse.

McAuley - 6.5

Kisnorbo - 6 A few mistakes and dodgy headers

Sheean - 6.5 Tackles pretty well and some good balls in

Newton - 4.5

King 7 - Cracking goal hence the extra point, made few mistakes

Clemence - 5.5 Couldn't get in to the game, not up to his usual standard, some terrible headers and a few dodgy shots

Hayes - 6.5 - Did pretty well, looked OK coming forward, could be a good player for us, best of a bad bunch

Hume - 5 worked hard but to zero effect. One of his worse games for city

Cort - 2 Abysmal, won nothing, awful descision making, awful passing, few shots none of which were any good

Sappleton - 6.5 Looked solid and a damn site better than Cort

Chambers - 6 Didn't really get in to the game but didn't do too badly, not quite as impressive as when he came on against Cardiff

Fulop -6- Didnt do too much wrong.

Stearman -5- Had a tough day against Dyer, wasnt the worst though.

Kisnorbo -4- Worst i've seen him defend for a while, couldnt get to grips with John, should have scored.

McAuley -5- Slightly better defensively than Kisnorbo but again passing was found lacking.

Sheehan -5- Didnt see much of the ball, set-pieces werent great today.

Newton -5- started of ok i thought, inconsistent.

King -6.5- Probably the most comfortable on the ball in our team, took his goal well. He doesnt make many mistakes because he doesnt take any risks and I dont blame him.

Clemence -5- Trying to do something he is not good at, he is a defensive midfielder not a playmaker.

Hayes -6.5- I thought he was our best player, the only one who tried to run at their defence, he had the beating of Ifill. Things didnt always come off but atleast he tried.

Hume -4- Worst i've seen him play for a while, got no confidence.

Cort -5- Did some ok things but too many not so good.

Fulop 6 - nothing special today

Sheehan 6 - Again relatively adequate, poor free-kicks.

Kisnorbo 6 - Didn't look too solid, few wayward headers from corners

McAuley 7

Stearman 6

Hayes 7 - Looked quite lively at times, some good balls in to the box.

King 7 - Fantastic goal, but again not totally assured in the middle...but that comes with experience

Clemence 3 - worst game since joining, awful passing and generally played really crap.

Newton 6 - Like Hayes, showed signs of attacking, but nothing special.

Hume 6 - Some good play but didn't set the world alight.

Cort 3 - Didn't look interested. Shit.

Chambers+Sappleton (6) - Not on too long, didn't really get an opportunity.

N'Gotty - :dunno:

Give credit when its due. Saints were better than us. Apart from the first 10-15 minutes their midfield owned ours by a country mile.

Spot on. They were hardly great but we gave the ball away so easily and were full of mistakes. And I don't know how anyone can give Stearman 6, he was terrible at dealing with Dyer and just didn't close him down or get the tackles in.

Posted

Them being "better than us" is no comfort, stop deluding yourselves to soften the blow. They were terrible. Having two pacey wingers / wide forwards who can dribble doesn't make you a good team. They were about as inspired with us, did little in possession and simply took the one decent chance they had.

****ing useless.

Fulop 6

Stearman 4- As usual, a poor game.

McAuley 5- He had a woeful game for his standards. Awful distribution as usual.

Kisnorbo 5- Partly his fault for the first goal. Poor.

Sheehan 5.5- Slightly better than the others.

Newton 4- This is as good as it gets for him really.

Clemence 5- Clumsily gave away the penalty which effectively lost us the game.

King 6- Superb goal, not a lot else.

Hayes 5- Times he gave us no width whatsoever.

Hume 5.5- Should have sdcored earley ovn, but apart firom thate received very little service.

Cort 3- Just plain awful. Lazy and not good enough.

Subs:

Chambers 4.5- Didn't offer a lot, but to be fair didn't get a lot of opportunity to.

Sappleton 10- Beast

No but it made them better than us today, they were pretty shite which is why it's even more depressing that we lost!

Fulop 5.5 (Not his usual dominant self, kicking/distribution as thoughtless as usual)

Stearman 5 (At fault in leaving their man free at the far post to head across for John's goal. Otherwise just ordinary)

McAuley 5 (His distribution gets worse and it counted today)

Kisnorbo 4 (Awful game. At fault before both goals because he failed to pass back simply to the goalkeeper but tried to be more complicated than was wise or necessary. His distribution/choice of passes was rank)

Sheehan 6.5 (The only threat we had came from him. Cort and Clemence both wasted good chances from his crosses and at other times we simply didn't have anyone to get on the end of loose balls in the box. Burley did his homework in making sure his crosses were closed down as early as possible from open play but those free kicks should have produced something. Ordinary defensively but did at least try to play constructively which is more than can be said for others).

Newton 3 (Why do we play him? Should have given us the lead in the first few minutes with a shot at an open goal but missed the target completely, and by a distance. Otherwise offered damn all)

King 6.25 (Scored a cracking first goal of his career from distance but was generally too withdrawn although he did try to pass to feet and support. Largely succeeeded although city seemed incapable of maintaining the flow of any move).

Clemence 3 (Diabolical. Unnecessarily at fault in handling for the penalty although my middle son, a Southampton fan who was that end, said it was outside the box. Barely put a constructive pass to a City man all afternoon and offered precisious little leadership on a day when our midfield was mostly second best.

Hayes 5.5 (tried hard until he was injured without too much reward)

Hume 5.5 (Missed a great opportunity first couple of minutes to put us ahead and was largely ineffective although there could be no doubting his commitment.

Cort 2 (Never impressive either as a target man, a potential scorer or a maker of chances. Total waste of space).

Subs: Chambers 3 (No-one will convince me he was fit. Had no impact whatsoever)

Sappleton 3 (I said he wasn't ready for the first team and that comment was clearly justified today. Never threatened at all. But Finnegan's right, he was better than Cort)

N'Gotty 5.5 (His usual competent self for the short time he was there)

Holloway 5 (Started with a reasonably attacking team and made positive changes in good time but failed to deal with Southampton's fast, high pressing and failed to get us playing with any tempo. Bad mistake playing an unfit player in Cort. I mentioned the folly of doing that sort of thing last season. It rarely if ever works and yesterday was no different.

Southampton more than most showed the folly of us playing too many slow defenders who failed to push up. It meant that Southampton's midfield had too much time, that we couldn't sustain attacks and that Southampton were able to exploit gaps in our separate sections.

All that said much of yesterday's sub-standard performance was down to the the players. They were second to the ball, weaker in the tackle, passed poorly and Kisnorbo made nieve decisions - all things which were hardly Holloway's fault.

Posted

Fulop 6 Didn't have that much to do was at fault for first goal

Stearman 6 looked ok againt a pacey but school boy winger

Kisnorbo 5 telling my mate (wolves fan) how good he on the way up, then plays like that

Macauley 5 just doesn't look comfortable when we play it across the back four

Sheehan 6 set pieces were awful, very quiet

Newton 4 thought Holloway would have seen enough against Cardiff couldn't trap a dead rat

King 7 cracking goal had a good game didn't have much support from Clem

Clemence 4 bad day at the office definatley one to forget, never a penalty

Hayes 7 MOM put himself about a bit, needs more balls to his feet in the right areas will be a good player

Hume 6 he's 5" stop playing balls to him in the air yes he sometimes wins it but he's better on the floor

Cort 3 don't think he's anywhere near fit nor motivated it was like playing with 10 men

Subs

Chambers 5 didn't really touch the ball

Sappleton 5 god he looks like Heskey looked knackered just running on the pitch ambled about with a bad

boy limp

N'Gotty not on long enough to judge

I don't get to many matches and was really looking forward to the game what a let down Holloways got his work cut out, how many times did we knock it around the back four then lose it. We desperately need a striker how far off fitness is DJ?

I thought the atmosphere was a lot better than the last time I went, the team can't say the fans weren't behind them.

Southampton looked a very average side which doesn't say much for us, saying that its not bad having Sagonowski and Rasiak on the bench

One of the best i'd say.

That whipped ball from him in the first 5 minutes or so was nothing short of world class - shame we dont have the quality to put it away.
