Jack Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 It was right in front of me. It definitley hit his hand but there was never any intention to it and tbh it looked like it was outside the box. A very harsh decision.
Ashley Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 I saw it - right in line with me.I was sure it was outside the box - but I could be wrong - my first reaction was it was way outside the box The ball "spun" up off his leg/body and touched his arm - made no difference to play, gained no advantage, was not arm to ball. No penalty in a million years Got it right mate
Ultra Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 It was right in front of me. It definitley hit his hand but there was never any intention to it and tbh it looked like it was outside the box. A very harsh decision. A saints fan confirmed as much after the game. But we've come to expect that most match officials in this league are retards anyway..
Collymore Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 The defending for the build up to the penalty should have been a penalty. I was fuming, it was worst than sunday league, did Southampton drug our defence before hand?
scrivins2 Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I was in L1 so had a great view of it i think it was handball although unintentially and did not gain any sort of unfair advantage if clemence was not there it would have rolled out to sheean anyway
Matt Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I've not seen it so can't really comment on whether it was or wasn't, all i'm saying is there wasn't much of an appeal from the Southampton players or fans. However, obviously i'd have been delighted with the draw had we hung on, but the way we played we deserved to lose, whether penalty was harsh or not, we were awful and to say Southampton's defence was the worst in the in league yesterday you could have said ours looked the worst in the league which looking at statistics is far from it.
DB11 Posted 2 December 2007 Author Posted 2 December 2007 So... whoever watched the Championship can anyone clarify if it was in the area or not?
breadandcheese Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I didn't think it a penalty at the time and still don't now. Another shocking match official.
skinnydipper Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I didn't think it a penalty at the time and still don't now. Another shocking match official. Equally shocking that they disallowed Southampton a perfectly good goal in the first half.Penalty rumpus = smoke screen for poor performance
izzetafox? Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Just seen the decision.Disgusted. me too, was outside the area im sure, and ball to hand, shocking!! however doesnt take away from the poor performance that we had and the fact southampton had a good goal ruled out!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 It's just a stupid interpretation of the rules where common sense should be used. No advantage was gained, it was completely accidental and there was no danger from the opposition attackers. So frustrating to lose a game over a decision like that and the ref seemed a twat all afternoon.
The People's Hero Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 We have joy - we have fun - we have seasons in the sun.
Tommy G Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 It may have been it may have not. If it had happened to a Soton player no-one would be moaning... Clemence handballing it summed up a shocker of a game for him, rumours have it he can sprint, just jog? 'Captain fantastic' needs to sort this squad out. If we had played really well and lost it on a dodgy pen decision then fair enough, but this was far from the case.
