FilboFox Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I was at the Walkers this afternoon and was really excited... this story is pretty sad but true... you'll understand why if you read on... I had just come back to my halls of residence for De Montfort University and heard the music signaling that the players were coming out to start the match at the Walkers and thought that I would just pop down and have a look to see what it was like being around the stadium when a match was on. As I have been living in Belgium for the past 15 years, I have unfortunately never been able to go to a Leicester match at the Walkers and thus had forgotten the great energy that goes with the match, but that will change very soon! What followed was a shock... I always had this idea that a football match would be a really passionate affair and that the fans would be singing and making a mass of noise to encourage the players. In the first half, I thought that it was pretty good... the fans were drumming and singing and really getting behind the players and when we scored it was FANTASTIC! HOWEVER, in the second half, it was APPALLING! There was hardly any chanting and to be honest, the Southampton fans were out-singing us most of the time... is this really what is going to be encouraging the players to win and get promotion?!? Granted, I was standing just outside the stadium by the ambulance entrance at the side and looked down the sideline as there is a gap through to see, but I really would have expected more from a bunch of fans that are wanting Premiership football in the near future! We need to get behind then team, not boo them off when they have played poorly as that just de-motivates them, and start to show that we are a unit. What do you think Southampton players were thinking when they saw that Leicester fans were booing off their own players!?! It will only act as encouragement to them and any opponent for that matter! Its time that Leicester players, management AND FANS start to act as one and bare down upon any team challenging us. We have decent players and very good back-room staff so there is no reason why we can't get back up the league and into the play-offs... COME ON LEICESTER!!!
PAULCFC Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Are you related to a Mr M Mandric of Serbia by any chance?A few people singing a song by a scouse band that has nothing to do with us and a bit of happy clapping during the game........Thats it.

What? That post doesn't really make any sense in response to what I wrote... What I am trying to say is that I really would have expected our fans to show more support for the team... its no good just being happy when we are winning and cheering them on, we need to back them in difficult times as well... such as against Southampton in the second half... you all went to sleep and started jeering our players which won't have helped the situation at all!
PAULCFC Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 We've been watching the same crap for years now though, think we can be excused for being a bit pissed off!
FilboFox Posted 2 December 2007 Author Posted 2 December 2007 We've been watching the same crap for years now though, think we can be excused for being a bit pissed off! Isn't it time that we helped turn it around and get out of the rut? Surely if we all pull together we can get the best out of the players and then we may well see a good return in the league performances... Understandably you would be pissed off with the same old shit... its no fun I'm sure, but we need to now turn a corner... New manager, new chairman, new players... surely now we can start afresh and get going!

New manager, new chairman, new players... surely now we can start afresh and get going! Get yourself a ticket for Saturday, and the next 10 home games, then come on here and tell us to cheer and sing. Lots of us have been suffering this week in and week out for too many years to remember, yet we renew our season tickets every year without fail. It gets to a point that it feels like there is no point in singing and shouting anymore. Watch a game or 10 then you will feel exactly the same. Sorry to be so negative but its really how I feel at the moment.
Mikey Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Do you not realize that some people do try? Us, in the Kop, do try and get things going it's just no-one barely ever joins in.
SamL Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Do you not realize that some people do try?Us, in the Kop, do try and get things going it's just no-one barely ever joins in. Indeed. The only songs that the majority of people join in with are the clapping ones. Great Escape gets the odd go round but people stop singing it after its gone through twice. It's a song that we should try and get going round for about 10 times. That would create a good atmosphere. The Walkers is shit for making a good atmosphere but people have still gotta try and create a good atmosphere. The Kop is full of old moaning bastards who just want to sit there and it's going to turn into the West Stand at this rate People keep moaning about the atmosphere, a few of these people have tried to do something about it without much success but I think it's time to try again.
onetruefox Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 There is no kop at the walkers,Think back two pen 2 and pen 3 at Filbert Street. Now that was a kop.The moon has got more atmosphere then the walkers stadium..Yes I know am looking back on what has gone, but just remember the days when we were all singing half an hour before kickoff, loads of banter with away fans, none of this stupid build up music before the match with some happy clapping. Its a different type of supporter watching football now, more family based.(which is a good thing),were it used to be more working class male environment..We get outsung every home game, sometimes by even a small section of away supporters..So if we all did sing together we could create a great atmosphere...Do we only sing when were winning,I think so.
Micky Ruddle Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Away day's is where it's at now-a-days. Enough said Nath. Enough said. I will try to make myself available for the away day
WetFlannel Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 i was back of f1 and i stood up for 'stand up if you love leicester' only to realze no-one stood up and made myself look like a right nonce oh well, i join in with chants but i can understand why people dont want to...
Hullfox Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Having said all that FF, it's still probably better than Belgium though isn't it?
SamL Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Would anyone like to give N block another try? Yes we've been there done that but surely we can make it work. Banter is what a good atmosphere is made of. Sitting in the Kop it restricts our song repotoire because we can't really sing at the away fans. Yes i'll probably be slated for saying this but it's just my thoughts...

The corner of the Kop was akin to being the away crowd of today. It was a group of vocal people crammed into a small space under a low roof that reverberated the sound, the rest of the Kop, the East, North and West Stands were no different then than the Walkers Stadium is today in that they only sing when we're winning or have someone to hate, the Referee, Speedie et al. The proportion of people singing then is probably equivalent to what it is today, except today they are spread around a much bigger more open ground. To have the same affect as Filbert St you need twice as many people singing unfortunately for nigh on 4 years they've had more to cry about than sing - 3 home wins in 11 months (my son's only missed 3 games, you can guess which 3) says it all, people talk about the players lacking confidence well so do the fans and who can blame them. Apart from the first season when we had Administration and annihilation staring us in the face coupled with promotion with a virtual Premiership standard team we've had nothing to be cheerful or optimistic about. We need a sustained period of relative success, a few home wins wouldn't go amiss before anyone's going to see anything resembling positive support. No one individual is to blame, it's football as it is today teams go up and teams go down, teams have good support today and crap support yesterday. Roll on next Saturday at the Walkers Stadium, I really can't bear to repeat last years trip to Burnley hope and despair go hand in hand of every football fan!

Yes i'll probably be slated for saying this but it's just my thoughts... With it being season ticket holders only, it really isn't worth the punt. Plus with a couple been banned from there as well. If everyone went back to N block the club would clamp down on the standing big time. Give it time boys.

I'd kinda forgotten about it being STH only and people from being banned. I was just thinking about Col U away with the great banter with the home fans. Made for good entertainment.

purpleronnie Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I have no problem in booing players who are obviously not trying. Get rid of Allens rejects and bring some younger players in.
davieG Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I have no problem in booing players who are obviously not trying.Get rid of Allens rejects and bring some younger players in. Can you be more specific? Allen's so called rejects = Fulop, Clemence, N'Gotty, Cort Younger Players = Sheehan, King, Chambers A Allen's younger rejects = Hayes, Sappleton
FilboFox Posted 2 December 2007 Author Posted 2 December 2007 Having said all that FF, it's still probably better than Belgium though isn't it? I miss quite a bit about Belgium... sure there isn't much to do there and it isn't very interesting but its not too different to here.
