Holloway's Radio Leicester interview

I was a bit disappointed with Ollie's post match interview. Bottom line is that we didn't lose because of a bad refereeing decision; we lost because we lacked quality and endeavour and never looked like scoring after the first 15 mins. That we scored one was down to one great strike rather than through the team creating decent goal scoring opportunities.

If the team's been poor I'm more reassured if the manager recognises that and accepts it .If the manager thinks we're doing everything right and were robbed of the win through bad luck , that troubles me.

I don't generally agree with supporters booing our own players regardless of their performance . If a player's not trying then it's up to the manager to get him off and not pick him again until that player has shown that he's willing and able to bust a gut for the cause.Maybe the crowd can show their disapproval through silence rather than boos when a poorly performing player comes off.

Troubled that Ollie played Cort if he "dragged himself off the treatment table to play for his manager" He's not that good when he's fit so playing him when he's injured and not match fit is failing the team, the fans and the player. If he couldn't jump/run he is going to get booed which is going to knock his confidence. Far better play a fit and keen to impress youngster. Also if Cort was on as the target man why was Fulop repeatedly pumping the ball up to Hume because Cort was never going to be chasing the knock-downs like a whippet. Fulop probably realised it was a waste of time knocking the high ball to Cort so why didn't Ollie realise it earlier and get Cort off ?

Troubled that Ollie had a pop at the fans. In the debate as to whether it's up to the team to inspire the fans or the fans to inspire the players I prefer MAs approach. After 4 years of dross I think the onus is with the players to create the atmosphere.Second half of Cardiff showed what support the fans can give if they see some passion from the team who were clapped off after a 0-0 because they did their best. If a player isn't inspired just by pulling on the shirt never mind earning upwards of 5k per week then they shouldn't be here . So IMO the players do owe the fans and 100% effort is the least we should expect

Pretty pissed off that Ollie appears to be having a go at the supporters, does he think we're all stupid?

Weve seen enough shite down here to know when a player is pulling his weight or not.

I dont agree with the booing but its hardly our fault the team performed so poorly.

I wonder how many clubs would have support like ours after 4 (at least) seasons of garbage?

Come on Ollie, dont blame us, LCFC needs us more than we need them!!

Ollie was like that when he was with us, Hates the crowd Booing the team and gets most upset if he himself is boooed. Should be interesting when Argyle visit the Walkers. Bye the way we won 3 - 0 yesterday, how did you get on?

How many of you witnessed your victory?

I just think it happens all the time at Leicester... they ALWAYS pick on one player... sometimes more to moan at. It's obviously Cort's turn this season. But some were ready to hate him before he came here.

I remember Guppy being roundly moaned at, even during the Prem years... Some City fans just like to moan!

So your telling me Cort wasn't poor, or hasn't been poor whenever he's played this season?

Maybe, Hopefully Ollie will get something out of Cort, but so far half fit or fully fit he's been poor.

I think the treatment of cort is woeful.

Other players were as bad if not worse. Scapegoat comes to mind!

Agree that we have had to put up with alot of crap recently though.

Leicester City manager Ian Holloway has called for 'togetherness' and 'unity' following his side's 2-1 defeat to Southampton at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A controversial second half penalty sealed the points for the Saints on the day - bringing an end to Holloway's unbeaten start as boss.

The City chief said he had been pleased with the effort of his players - and singled out Carl Cort for praise after the striker had come off the treatment table to lead the line despite having not trained for two weeks prior to the contest

But Cort was jeered by supporters when he was eventually replaced - a moment that left a sour taste in Holloway's mouth.

And speaking after the game, the Leicester boss said it was time for everyone to pull together and buy into the new beginning at the club.

He said: "My team needs to be strong to play here and they need to be brave. They also need to have some more attacking options. At the moment we are asking kids to be men, but they are getting cheered more than my senior players, which I find unbelievably harsh.

"I like to think that I am a decent human being who has got the ability to help and encourage people. Carl Cort has been sat on the treatment table for the last two weeks. He has got a problem with his knee, but we are trying to tickle him through. He hasn't played or trained for a fortnight, but he saw the scenario and he was willing to come out and play for Ian Holloway and this football club.

"You can ask anyone in their right mind who has ever played football what it is like if you haven't trained for two weeks. In one week you lose your fitness and in two weeks you start to worry. But Carl got off that table and wanted to play for me.

"I did not see someone out there who was not trying. I saw Carl try his heart out for us and he deserved to be encouraged. But I didn't see or hear that and I don't think that is right. If he strode away and didn't try a leg like a Big Time Charlie then I could understand the jeering. But that kid climbed off the treatment table to play for me and play for Leicester City.

"No matter what has happened before - this is a fresh start for all of us. I can't believe that he got jeered in that situation.

"How are young players going to feel when they see a senior player who has achieved what Carl Cort has achieved in the game being jeered? Are they going to feel inspired? Are they going to feel wanted, needed, cherished and loved? Or are they going to feel nervous?

"We are all human beings. You pay your money and you take your choice. I would be the first one to tell him to sort his life out if her didn't try. I saw him try his hardest from a negative starting position.

"I had to play five young kids in my middle four and front two today. That's hard in the Championship. But how are they going to feel if their senior team-mates are getting hammered?

"I need to utilise the maximum out of every member of our squad. We have got to create an atmosphere where they need to feel loved and wanted because surely that will help them play better - particularly at home. We all want the same things.

"I have only just taken over a group of people, but you can't judge me yet because I haven't brought anyone in yet. That is a where a manager stands and falls - on how he adds to a team. But for crying out loud - don't shoot your own foot off with a shotgun. Don't give all your frustrations at where your club has ended up to the people who are trying to put it right now. There will be mistakes and there has been. But what we have got to try and do is stick together right now and march forward."

Holloway also confirmed that he had been left frustrated by the referee's decision to award the Saints a second half penalty.

He added: "I was totally bemused by the decision just like everyone else in the ground. The ball was spinning viciously as it came at Stephen Clemence and he brought it down with his left foot. There was no one near him. He didn't have the best of touches and it spun up and accidentally hit him on the arm. Was he in the box or outside? To my astonishment the referee blew up. I thought he was going to give a free kick to us for an infringement in the box, but then he pointed at the penalty spot. Not one Southampton player appealed - not one. Their manager looked at me and put his hands in the air. I have seen it and it is the harshest decision I have ever seen in my entire life."

He's just flabbergasted at how terrible our home support is. Poor chap's come up here thinking we have a massive stadium, big crowds and so must be quite passionate about our football. He's probably absolutely shocked that even the embarrassing Plymouth home support was twice that of our own.

'We've been watching this shit for years' - excuse doesn't wash. It's been like this since we moved into the Walkers with few exceptions. I'm too embarrassed to take mates along with me to the Walkers these days, it's that bad.

they Play at home and we jeer them. When we are playing Away- fans sing loudly

They play better away from home than they do AT home.

I dont think people realise how influential fans can be...

Its not rocket science.....

It isn't going to happen though, i've said it a million times before.... most of our fans are complete and utter morons.

It might be they play better away coz they focus and bond better by staying as a group in a hotel the night prior to away games. Possibly we should put them away at the Marriot prior to a home game. Maybe it might be a bit of rocket science.

lol

If that was a penalty then call me Alex McJock-Strap and i'll wear a kilt

Ian Holloway on a pathetic Penalty.

Just seen it on Sky Sports News, TBH I'm struggling to see whether Clemo even touched it with his hand.

More worried about our home form than other teams. Offering an alternative reason to yours, thats all. If it was tried and works,as quite a few teams in Italy do, then do it. It is worth the home points gained.

The one thing that anoys me is that at no point in that interview did Ollie take any of the blame upon himself. If Cort limped off the treatment table after not training for two weeks then Ollie is as much to blame for Corts poor appearance that Cort himself.

I would have liked to have seen him admit that maybe he made the wrong decision, that maybe it was him who deserved the criticism from the fans and that they couldn't really blame Cort.

That said, I hate the boo-ing that goes on, either toward certain players or the team as a whole after a match. It does nothing to help our situation.

I agree 100%, theres several of them in this thread!

During the interview I wondered if he was watching the same game, Southamptons disallowed goal was onside, they ran the midfield after the first ten mins (clemence flatters to decieve). We even went 4-5-1 in the first half at 0-1.Their keeper made only one save but it was maybe more of a miss by Hume & Newton. Cort was poor, but then were so many others. On the phone-in people were using Cort as a scapegoat when there were more to blame than him, Sappleton & Chambers hardly had an impact, at one point I forgot chambers was playing. We played with two wingers yet again after the first ten mins not one was passed to & they had to come inside looking for the ball. Kisnorbo had a nightmare.

How many games have we seen this season (& many previous) were we start brightly & then after 10 mins become rubbish.

Fact is week after week these guys seem not to be interested their attitude yesterday was like the Burnley & Sheffield games & that didn't start because of the crowd.

We now turn up knowing what to expect from these, we need to get to January, hopefully not in to much trouble, & bring in some quality, however would you come here?

Highlight from yesterday... Southampton fans "your going down with your chairman".
