SamL Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 Iain Hume admitted he was close to tears after netting City's equaliser at Turf Moor on Tuesday night. The Canadian international striker netted 12 minutes from time to register only his third goal of the season. It was his first goal since September 15 against QPR, and it was clear for all to see how much it meant to the diminutive hitman. He said: "I know it sounds silly but I was close to tears when the goal went in. "It meant a lot to me; you could see that from my celebration. "Things haven't gone particularly well for me in front of goal so far this season but people have stuck by me and had that belief in me. "The ball fell kindly for me but it was a relief to see the ball find the back of the net and it was great that it came at the end that our fans were at. "I am the first one to criticise myself because I know my goalscoring record should be better but I'm made up with this goal and hopefully now I can go on and add to my three so far this season." However, despite his late strike, Hume believes that the Foxes were rather fortunate to come away with a point. "We weren't great in the first half and got what we deserved but we stepped it up in the second half and managed to get something out of the game thanks to some great saves from Marton (Fulop) as well. "It's clear to see that we are still lacking a bit of confidence especially in front of goal but we now have to move on and look forward to Saturday against West Brom. "Our home form hasn't been great but if we start winning then I am sure the fans will get right behind us. "That's what we need them to do on Saturday."

He's one player who you know is giving his best whatever. It's not helped him being messed around so much this season and I suppose more messing around is inevitable. Pleased he scored though. If he can get 10 for the season it won't be so bad in the circumstances.

Bert Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 He actually cares about this club. Hence being close to tears after scoring, hence always giving everything he's got. He should've been made captain at the start of the season imo.

SamL Posted 5 December 2007 Author Posted 5 December 2007 He might not always be scoring goals, but the fact is he works hard for the team. Always chasing things down, jumping with 6ft tall defenders to win headers. He gives his all even if he's not scoring goals which can't be said for some of our players. He was the at the end of our tunnel last year. He played very well in a very poor team. Just needs some confidence and stability that could turn around his season.

Good shout Bertoli I'll second that - passion on the pitch is what a captain needs most. They lead by example, and if everyone was taking Hume's example *narrows eyes in Carl Cort's direction <_< * then we wouldn't be in half the trouble we are now!

Geo V Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 I know he is a fans favourite and I rate him too but he hasnt been on good form this season apart from the odd bit of magic although he has been starved of service from our midfield. With that said, I`d still expect more goals from him despite playing the odd game in midfield and having different partners at times. The fact is we need much more from our strikers and Huuuume has under achieved this season like most of the squad.

That what I like about Ian Hume he is very passionate. He is all ways gives his all for the club and that why you hardly ever hear the fans boo him even when he is not playing that well .

True. Hollaway should see how Leicester fans treat players who, although not the best, give 100% every game
Daz.I Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 Fair play to him he works his bollocks off week in week out even if things aren't going his way, hume to score a double saturday
WetFlannel Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 i thought hume was going to kick on from a good last season, and with a better team, really show his colours... hasnt really worked out like that has it?
