davieG Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Source Cardiff City are braced for another, improved bid for Northern Ireland defender Tony Capaldi as the full back interests his former employer. The Bluebirds rejected one bid, thought to be around £90k, for the player in the days before the Sheffield United game - in which Capaldi returned to the starting line up and did OK as the Bluebirds won 1-0. Ian Holloway was bitterly disappointed to lose Capaldi to Cardiff on a free when he was boss at Plymouth Argyle, now at the Foxes, he has a large transfer kitty to spend and remains interested in Capaldi. It's fair to say that Capaldi has not excelled at Cardiff City as yet. His form is described as 'steady' at best but he has looked comfortable since being recalled in Chris Gunter's absence. He cost us nothing and with fans already on his back, Capaldi may well consider the move. Dave Jones is a fan of the player but an increased bid could seriously test his resolve. Kevin McNaughton and Joe Ledley can both play at left-back effectively while McNaughton and youngsters Matt Smith and Darcy Blake both play at right back and have shown good potential.
Fox in a Box Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Ive heard a sniff that is a done deal on this one, also that were in for Jay Jay @ Hull as a creative midf.
Maybes Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 He is a good solid left back at this standard.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Our transfers in the summer, couldn't have been much dumber, we got a bloke from Iran, because he had a lovely tan, signed a crap Danish keeper, good job the price wasn't steeper, and we got Hellings from Aldi, when we should have bought Capaldi.
Bryn Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Ive heard a sniff that is a done deal on this one, also that were in for Jay Jay @ Hull as a creative midf. Okocha would be a terrible buy. Don't get me wrong, he's looked classy for Hull, but he's constantly injured. And he's on a big wage.

Love it. Would be a good signing. If we're ever going to be challenging for promotion we can't be relying on 17 year old Joe Mattock. I rate Mattock but I still feel we need somebody experienced in that position.

dandannieldanok Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Apparently he has been crap for Cardiff, people on 606 have been slating him (and the rest of the Cardiff team).
Beardy Green Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Apparently he has been crap for Cardiff, people on 606 have been slating him (and the rest of the Cardiff team). Capaldi is a very frustrating player to watch. He's very laid back and sometimes it looks like he isn't bothered. However LB isn't his position. His better displays for us were at left midfield.
Plymouth Pete Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 Tony Capaldi was not very good defensively for us, is good going forward and takes good corners and throw ins. Have also heard that you are interested in our other full back Paul Connolly another who is not too good defensively, there have been rumours he wants away for sometime. Personally I would not be excited about signing either of them and would not be disappointed if we lose Connolly.

Holloway has been quoted as saying we have about 6 right backs and that he needs to get rid of some. So forget signing your right back.... i'd be stunned if that happened. Plus we have enough left backs who can attack but not defend.
Dr_Fox Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 I mentioned a few weeks ago that this was a distinct possibility....Cardiff fans over here seem to think he will definitely follow Ollie to Leicester but worryingly do not seem too upset at the thought of losing him...they say he is nothing special and just "does enough" I guess if he consistently "does enough" then he is going to improve our current squad so come ond down!
Zingari Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 Leicester boss Ian Holloway is ready to make Cardiff's Tony Capaldi his first signing. (Daily Mirror)
shrood Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 What is Holloway on?! Whatever this geezer did for Argyle he's been absolutely cockin awful for cardiff. Talked to a Cardiff fan and he think it's bloody hilarious someone would even take him of their hands, for MONEY.

There's lots of reasons why players don't perform, having had him perform 'well' at plymouth maybe Ollie knows what makes the guy tick.
Ultra Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 Capaldi's done alright for NI, so there must be SOME talent there. At the price being offered (£150k), it would be good business by Holloway.
Sly Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 Capaldi's done alright for NI, so there must be SOME talent there. At the price being offered (£150k), it would be good business by Holloway. I still think we were after Capaldi when we signed Peter Gilbert. Personally I rate Capaldi as a player for this division. He's steady and he'll do you a job. The question I'm asking is though, do we need to waste £150k on another left sided player, defender even when that clearly isn't the issue we have at the moment.
Jonezy Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 Capaldi properly has the right sort of character in Ollie's book and we could do with an experienced leftback, who can cover the wing as well. So I believe this could turn out a solid signing.
dandannieldanok Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 I still think we were after Capaldi when we signed Peter Gilbert. Capaldi is a world-beater compared to that lump of shit, who actually purchased him, Adams or Levein?
Bluemoon Posted 29 December 2007 Posted 29 December 2007 I mentioned a few weeks ago that this was a distinct possibility....Cardiff fans over here seem to think he will definitely follow Ollie to Leicester but worryingly do not seem too upset at the thought of losing him...they say he is nothing special and just "does enough"I guess if he consistently "does enough" then he is going to improve our current squad so come ond down! Of course he's going to come here............it's more money and a new start............I'm a bit worried about this one, whenever he's been up to the Walkers, he's looked like he was on some ort of "laid back" pill. A "Norn Iron" friend of mine has been phoning me laughing at the possiblity of Capaldi coming here.
Sly Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 Capaldi is a world-beater compared to that lump of shit, who actually purchased him, Adams or Levein? It was Levein. To be honest we never actually saw a lot of Gilbert, he was just nothing short of awful when we did see him.
Plymouth Pete Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 It was Levein. To be honest we never actually saw a lot of Gilbert, he was just nothing short of awful when we did see him. I knew Capaldi reminded me of someone, thats who it was. Best of luck with him.
Thracian Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 I knew Capaldi reminded me of someone, thats who it was. Best of luck with him. Can't you give them some reassurance? Sprinkle some stardust on Capaldi? After all It's been a miserable 2007. Every new name here is automatically assumed to be a Christmas present....the grass is always going to be greener. What "grass" you might ask. Let's see, there was Horsfield, Jarrett, Cadamarteri, Nielsen, Cort, Kishishev, Kaebi, Ferreira, Djiziri, Hellings, Collins John... That's a whole team of players... And with so many apparent or acknowedged mistakes it's a good job our decision makers have never been left plotting the course for a spaceship. Cos instead of landing on the Moon they might well have sent it straight up Uranus. And that's even more likely if it turns out you're right.
