l444ry Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 The point at issue here is, surely, would the club be better off with Fulop than any of the others Thracian listed. The main bulk of the fee is there, otherwise Leicester would not be showing an interest in signing him. The goalkeeping position is unique, specialist and unlike any other. Fulop has been the most influential player we have had in years. You can't put a price on the importance of that.

Lamby Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I rate Marcus Bent But we have enough strikers now Marcus Bent,Been there done that got the T-shirt But wouldnt mind seeing gemma atkinson at the walkers Wahey, you've joined the minority that think he's shit. And btw, we are not going up! Today was the shittest performance ive seen in 3 years.
l444ry Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Yes you can and £3million is too much. But it's not the full £3 million though. It's the balancing amount I'm referring to here.
ibbosuk Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 are you all mad ; selling first team regulars should not even be considered until the replacements have proved to be better than what we have recent experience and evidence of our mass of incoming players seem to suggest that this is probably not going to be the case Fulop IS BETTER than what we have!!!
l444ry Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Fulop IS BETTER than what we have!!! About time somebody pointed that out.
Fox You Forest Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Fulop IS BETTER than what we have!!! Spot on young man
MPH Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Who might you sell to pay for Fulop so that we're still left with a reasonable reinforcement budget?============================================================== To me there are several candidates. a) Fryatt. He might raise £800.000. Hume is already being pushed out wide to accommodate him and we've got other alternatives in Howard, Hayles, Campbell when he returns and even Hammond if he recovers from injury. b) Stearman. Would he fetch £1.25m plus with add ons? I quite rate Stearman at his best but have to ask whether James Chambers would be an okay alternative with N'Gotty, Kenton and Lee Cox as perfectly adequate cover. c) McAuley Another who might fetch £1m. He's a solid, failry reliable defender but we can't continue with two such poor passers in our defence and hope to win promotion. or) d) Kisnorbo £2m. There's talk of his going to Fulham but, whatever, I'd have thought there'd be takers for such a consistently determined defender. e) Mattock. I don't know what he might fetch with add ons but I'd sell him. He's got attributes and should improve but I think we can perhaps do better in the short term. i would sell kisnorbo and fryatt.. we could get Steip for less than half of what we would get for kisnorbo... use the rest to pay whatever Sunderland want for Fulop. We really have been given a golden opportunity to get a quality keeper and if it helps get us promoted even next season, no one will question the 3m it cost us then when we see all the tv money coming in...
Webbo Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Fulop IS BETTER than what we have!!! Is he a better defender than Kisnorbo or N'Gotty? Is he better in midfield than Clemence? Will he score more goals than Howard, Fryatt or Hume? Having the best keeper in the world wouldn't guarantee promotion. At best Fulop could stop you losing a game, he could never win one for you. There are other good keepers in the world, £3million needs to be spent elsewhere first.

As can be seen today, you can have new strikers, but that didnt stop us conceding goals... Even with new wingers in i doubt we would of got 4 goals away to Palace...
Ashley Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 If we want to get out of this division we carnt sell our best players. End of. Mr Mandaric needs to dig deep and produce the funds. Soon as we start winning the "Glory Fans" will come back which will bring back money from tickets, shirts, food programs etc....

Ashley Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 OR let our best players slip out of our hands? EG: Fulop Fulop was never ours he was just a loane
WetFlannel Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 OR let our best players slip out of our hands? EG: Fulop He was never ours anyway. And I'd have full respect for Fulop if he chose to go somewhere else, as he doesnt deserve to let his career slip just to satisfy our fans...
Thracian Posted 1 January 2008 Author Posted 1 January 2008 what !!! the most successful teams are the ones that play together regularly , get an understanding and even individual players of limited abilities can beat far better teams of individuals That's not relevent to our side cos we hardly ever keep the same team.
l444ry Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 By not selling someone to part-finance the purchase of possibly the best goalkeeper in this division and deciding to make do with Henderson or bring Logan back would be the height of recklessness. And stupid too.......
Sparky Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 It would have to be £1.5million + imo. I'd take £2million+ for Kisnorbo £800k/1million for Hume. And maybe £1.5 for Fryatt. Tbh I wouldn't want to sell more than 2 of our better player at most. if someone offered anywhere near that id drive Fryatt there myself !!! I cant see many teams putting up 3M for Fulop , id make a final offer of 2 million quid take it or leave it, 2 million quid for a guy who will sit on their bench is a good offer and i reckon they would accept it
Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 So let me get this right... we sell 2 decent central defenders to buy a good goalkeeper? Without McAuley and Kisnorbo in front of him, would Fulop be quite as effective? Milan should either break the bank or we look elsewhere - I'm sure Fulop isn't the only decent keeper on offer in the world.
Jack Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Flog everyone bar Kisnorbo, Wesolowski, Hume, Clemence and McAuley.
Joe. Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I'll admit, £3 million is a lot of money for Fulop but hey, it's whatever Milan's willing to spend on him. So long as there's sufficient funds available to buy players in the positions we desperately need them in, it doesn't matter to me how much we're paying.

For ages now I've said we cannot ontinue having two poor passers at the heart of our defence. Not only that but I think we need a centre-back with more pace if he's going to cover our wing backs, assuming we stick with wing backs.

Kisnorbo's not fast but he's not that slow, and more mobile than Mac. McAuley's not that slow once he gets going, he occasionally seems ridiculously speedy out of nowhere, his problem is more acceleration.

McAuley more than makes up for lack of pace with his general ability to defend for me. It's hard for me to decide who's the better centre back out of the two, I think I'd actually go for McAuley.

I used to think the same but that outstanding coolness he used to have has dissipated slightly this season. Kisnorbo is less replacable, hes a more "all-action" type. Difficult to call though.
