Thracian Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Funny how Thracian has such a good memory of practically everything Sheehan has done in a game. I wonder if Thracian sits there with his note pad, a bit like one of those OPTA analysers and works out how many passes completed, tackles made and won, shots on target, average distance from opponent when defending, etc.I'm sure such luxury isn't applied to the likes of Fryatt and Clemence - he wouldn't be able to use spin then. As I've already mentioned about Fryatt but it applies equally to Clemence, I would be delighted if they were creating things for fun. Please don't forget to mention it when they do. Because, as a team generally, I think Leicester City today is one of the least creative teams I've ever seen in the club's colours. I can think of no reason whe we'd use Mattock instead of Sheehan in those circumstances but I would more than welcome someone else joining in because Sheehan is not a wide midfielder and, that being the case, I'd be more than pleased if Clemence suddenly started being all he was supposed to be. For me, so far, he's been no more boringly average. None of this is about spin at all. Fryatt has promised much but delivered little and even some of his staunchest allies are starting to see that. Clemence is our captain. As such he is a fixture in the side and likely to stay a fixture to the exclusion of others. Captains in that situation have to stand out. If you think the guy is doing that then me and you see football differently. But then there's not much doubt about that, is there?
Scow Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Captains in that situation have to stand out. If you think the guy is doing that then me and you see football differently. But then there's not much doubt about that, is there? As I've said elsewhere in the thread, I felt Clemence started the season well. Injury then struck, which consequently seemed to affect his game. He's been much better of late - player ratings demonstrate that. Not by any means do I feel Clemence has been outstanding overall. I don't know what more you can expect when you're surounded by players who often show no desire to move in to space and don't look to make incisive forward runs. The side is so imbalanced at the moment and Clemence's game is based on dropping deep, collecting the ball from the back 4 and initiating attacks. Unfortunately, we have two centrebacks who are not good on the ball in Kisnorbo and McAuley and two full backs in Stearman and Mattock who are crap and naive respectively. Then you have your favourite Sheehan who's too slow.
eaststandtom Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 who else agrees with mehe is absolutley fukin useless.. and im not one of those fans who bitches about everyone if City lose.. i just think he hasn't done anything good all season..... £1.5 million - wtf he keeps saying that the team have learnt a lesson and that we are looking to improve after every game.. well our players aren't a clever bunch because were 21st in the league my opinion , sell him off and buy a whole new set of midfielders No! Clemence is the best midfielder we have had since muzzy. He has had some poor performances recently but not helped by some niggling injuries and inconsistency concerning the selection of players to play alongside him in midfield. We have a different midfield every week which wont help. From what I see he can run, pass and tackle when playing well and has determination. As our captain and main midfielder there is a pressure on him to play well more than the others. We need the circumstances I spoke of to change for him to recapture some good form.
Steven Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 "Stephen ' crappy ' Clemence, what a waste of money" is very unfair and I can see what Sol Campbell means now. It has to be true that if Pele, Beckenbauer, Best and Maradonna turned up at the current City in their prime they would end up looking like donkeys in a matter of weeks.
The People's Hero Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Ha, I'd take £15,000 less than that and a company tricycle just to be set up in Leicester with a job and a flat. Laziest person in the world, really. A simple man with simple pleasures. There doesn't seem to be much about at the moment and Leicester doesn't seem to have as many things on offer as a similar city or two I could mention just a bit further north. Bang on. There is fu ck all in Leicester and salaries seem to be lower there than anywhere else in the country.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Bang on.There is fu ck all in Leicester and salaries seem to be lower there than anywhere else in the country. Come to Lincolnshire, they're even lower and we don't have motorways!
James. Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 No!Clemence is the best midfielder we have had since muzzy. F**king hell you're as bad as the guy that started the thread!
Zingari Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 F**king hell you're as bad as the guy that started the thread! About right ; he's a goodish championship player , no more no less , but obviously with better players around him, he would be more effective ; the extremes of opinion on here ( re. stephen clemence) are becoming ridiculous

Then you have your favourite Sheehan who's too slow. No one denies Sheehan is slow - least of all me. But seeing as Mattock isn't especially quick and, from what I've seen, has far less effect than Sheehan, I know which I prefer. Particularly as Sheehan seems to be one of the few players we have who does seem to find space despite his pedestrian pace.
Zingari Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 LCFC are ridiculous! yeah but we still luv' em don't we ?
davieG Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 yeah but we still luv' em don't we ? A little less each day
Zingari Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 A little less each day you're in denial , if they win tomorrow, you'll be leaping around with joy with the rest of us it doesn't matter how hard i try i can't ever shake off the ( unrequited) luv ; i've accepted that she's often a cruel mistress

TrickyTrev Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 IMO hes being asked to do a job that his style doesnt allow, hes not the kind of attacking midfielder everyone wants him to be, just because he wears the number 6 and has dark hair does not make him the next Muzzy Izzet, once we get an attack minded central midfield player in alongside Clem then we will see the best of him. Correct. He has looked at his best playing alongside Weso who had the licence to get forward where as Clemence started attacks from deep. In fact when the two were working in tandem like that at the begining of the season is the only time we've looked any good.
TrickyTrev Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Pity we didn't have someone else in the box instead of Fryatt to convert that pass of Sheehan's against QPR. Pity the ref ruled two goals he made offside earlier in the season. Pity DJ didn't convert that easy chance at Barnsley I think it was. There have been about 16 goals, assists, disallowed goals or close range misses as a result of Sheehan's left foot this season. You just refuse to accept it. Nor would it be quite so important if we were creating chances galore as a matter of course. But we're not. So you can say honestly you have also been adding up all the missed chances that were a result of Clemence's passes? Or anybody elses other than Alan Sheehan's? The mind boggles.
pricey_lcfc4ever Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 clemence wil come good when he has some1 to play alongside him, clemence is efensive minded so we need an attacking player alongside him. he will become good!! i have always rated him anyway
