Darkzzz_ Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 i wouldnt sell clem but i would give him a massive kick up the ass!! although someone seems to have in the last couple of games!!
Ajax Treesdown Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 who else agrees with mehe is absolutley fukin useless.. and im not one of those fans who bitches about everyone if City lose.. i just think he hasn't done anything good all season..... £1.5 million - wtf he keeps saying that the team have learnt a lesson and that we are looking to improve after every game.. well our players aren't a clever bunch because were 21st in the league my opinion , sell him off and buy a whole new set of midfielders What a tosspiece
Geordie Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 If you were Stephen Clemence and you had signed for us, then turned up at trainig and saw the shower of shite you had to earn a crust along side would you not have the hump? I bet he considers topping himself when he realises his partners are either full backs, Skippy the one legged waddler or Hayes who wouldn't get a game in the para-olympics.

Exactly, although I disagree about Wesolowski. I think he is a decent player who has shown real promise when he has played for us. Why don't we try and get Gudjonsson (sp?) back? Someone who can protect Clemence and allow him to play the ball, while they shoot from long range. Worth a punt?
Fox You Forest Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 Do you know the first thing about having balance in midfield? The two defenders that are playing there are covering his ground. The position that he's played for years is been covered by people that are quite frankly average at playing there. Clemence is the type of player that wants to receive the ball from the back four and look to spread the play to either wingers or strikers. At the moment we have N Gotty doing that, fairly poorly as well. Which is becoming quite frustrating but he can only play where he is told. At the moment the options he has to pass to are extremely limited and he is constantly by passed by our central defenders who must love Howard been up there so they can carry on hoofing. # To say that he is useless quite frankly shows a great amount of stupidity. He's put in many very good performances this season and one of the only players that actually looks to get the ball down and play it along the floor. When we finally get players around him that will complement him, we will see him at his best. Two things really, Firstly i never said he was useless, Playing with defenders in midfield doesnt help. Second you said "The two defenders that are playing there are covering his ground" I said " the two defenders are carrying him" tbh i dont see much difference between those two statements.

That first bit was meant to be in reference to the opening post, generally. The second bit, I see what you mean, but my point is a midfield needs to have balance, having two players that are out of position doesn't give us this. The two defenders should not be carrying him, he doesn't need them to do that. It's more of a criticism of what we have in our squad.
Mikey Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 He needs people round him, good players. that move and make space which he can pass it into. Also, his form has been picking up a bit recently, I didn't go to the QPR game so don't know what he was like there.
Scow Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 Clemence is the type of player that wants to receive the ball from the back four and look to spread the play to either wingers or strikers. At the moment we have N Gotty doing that, fairly poorly as well. Which is becoming quite frustrating but he can only play where he is told. I don't agree with that, Cheddeh. I thought against Wolves and Charlton he did a good job there and the players ratings reflect that. He's tried to create space to receive the ball from the back 4 and has used it quite well in those games. He's not just been passing sideways, he's looked to play incisive forward balls. He was OK against Charlton but I can't comment on the game against QPR. And to be fair, we all know he isn't the long term answer there. He's done as well as expected and possibly more given the circumstances. As for Clemence, I thought he started the season well and was clearly our best player along with Fulop IMO. He's then had a couple of injuries and that seemed to affect his form. There's no dispute about him being our best midfielder, although there's no real competition! Hopefully we'll see the best of him when we have a few better players in the side. You just need to ask the Brum fans about him and you'll get nothing but positive reports. He was their best player last season and did a good job for them in the Premiership - particularly when him and Savage were in central midfield during a couple of good seasons in the Prem.
Ultra Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 The more and more I think about it...Allen's silly transfers and overall balance of the side really pisses me off. Clem, Weso and King (lets not forget promoted from the youth setup) are the only natural CMs, the situation is amazingly woeful. A factor to why we haven't seen the best of Clem. But who brought Clemence to the club? And who made him captain? Clemence looked a quality player against Watford and apparently at Palace too. Since Allen left and he's picked up a couple of injuries, his form has dipped alarmingly, as he himself has been honest enough to admit. He looked to have turned the corner over Christmas, but was woeful again at QPR, which raises the question whether he has what it takes, either as a player or as a captain, to lift us from our current predicament. I'm a lot less convinced of the answer than some of his disciples who have posted on here.
Tommeh Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Clemence along with Hume and Kisnorbo are the ONLY players we have to build a team around and a decent one at that. we have other players who do a job (McAuley, DJ, Chambers) but without these 3 we'd be bugger all. The rest I havn't mentioned can fook off as far as I'm concerned with the exception of a few of the youngsters (Mattock, Chambers)
Geordie Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Hume should've been our captain this season. I bet his team mates would love that
davieG Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 BY the same token that peolple say we shouldn't judge holloway until he has his own team I think it's premature to judge certain individual players, particualarly the mid-fielders which are largely makeshift and incomplete. Would we be judging Muzzy or Lennon if they were in our midfield as I doubt they'd be looking much better. In fact i can remember Muzzy taking quite a bit of stick after Lennon and Savage left. That's not to say he hasn't under performed but it must be hard to raise your game when you are partnered with 2/3 misfits a defence that has hoofing ingrained in it and a forward line that can't hit a barn door. You can have confidence in yourself but football is a team game and you need confidence in your team to bring out your best, have any of us got confidence in the midfield that is announced for every game, I don't.
Thracian Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Clemence has the most assists for us this season. True story. Depends what you count as an assist. I prefer to consider the whole picture including easy chances created for others and missed, disallowed goals and go on because it demonstrates more accurately who is supplying the majority of creative passes. And I don't think it has been Clemence.
Sods Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 This is ridiculous, Stephen Clemence has probably been our best buy this season. I think hes our best player to be honest, a good leader as well.
Ric Flair Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Depends what you count as an assist. I prefer to consider the whole picture including easy chances created for others and missed, disallowed goals and go on because it demonstrates more accurately who is supplying the majority of creative passes. And I don't think it has been Clemence. You may well prefer that, but it doesn't make one iota of a difference. I like to kick back, close my eyes and imagine being filthy rich. I have a great time doing it, but when I open my eyes again, it's made fook all of a difference in reality other than the fact I might feel a little more relaxed than I did before hand. The rules for assists are clear and considering Sheehan's a free-kick and corner specialist, it's a little embarrassing that he's still not our leading assister this season.

YOUR opinions are though.

In general, an assisted goal. Oh btw five more assists from Clemance Kisnorbo McAuley or Chambers and you owe me a pint.
The People's Hero Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Sorry, I only deal in effect and impact. It wasn't so long ago that Thracian was obsessed with impact (whilst also having something of a penchant for disallowed goals). He's an enigma wrapped in a puzzle. But mainly, he's a cock.
MikeyT Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 He's been playing in a central midfield this season consisting of:Weso. A natural defensive midfielder. Kenton. A right back or centre back. N'Gotty. A centre back. Chambers. A wing back. King. A natural midfielder but only played a handful of games. As for the rest of the midfield: Hume. A striker. Sheehan (at times). A left back. Newton. Newton. Hayes. Natural winger but can't hold down a place. How can he be expected to perform well around this lot? Newton.Newton!!!

Also how can you count disallowed goals, surely if you do that you have to count every offside as the only differnece between an average offside and a disallowed goal is how quick the whistle goes.
The People's Hero Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Getting back to the point, Clemence is quality. He's having to play alongside a bunch of people who are half-fit, lacking in any ability and out of position.

He's been one of our better players but it's really not saying much. As you say, he doesn't have alot playing alongside him.
