Thracian Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 you still haven't seen bori play so how can you judge him? I have seen Bori play unless the guy who played against Coventry was an imposter.
JakeShingler Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 I have seen Bori play unless the guy who played against Coventry was an imposter. hahahahaha somehow dont think he was
Asha Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 I have seen Bori play unless the guy who played against Coventry was an imposter. Maybe, boring englishman Barry. Won a competition in the merc to play for a game or two. Disguised as a hungarian talent to avoid uproar from fans.
Thracian Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 If Gradel is so good how come no premiership sides have come knocking on our door with 7 figure offers? Maybe because as per usual with our youngsters we like to believe the hype of the few rather than the possible reality of the situaton which may be that he is a bit special in Div 1 but that's as far as it goes. Let him have this season there and then have a look at the situation at the end of the season. Yes I've heard this line before and there's been limitless examples of "professionals" forking out silly sums for flops and others paying peanuts for footballing gems. Even great managers get it wrong as Wenger might be wondering right now with Walcott and I'm damned sure the much less celebrated manager Peter Taylor did with Akinbiyi. Anyway, to the present. It's clear City have received around a £1.5m bid for Mattock and nothing of any consquence for Gradel although I rather think Crewe might have paid what they could afford. Were it my choice I'd sooner buy Gradel. I can get robust, reliable and fairly durable defenders but I cannot so easily buy what Gradel's got. Clever wingers are one thing. Wingers who can shoot but, more important, do shoot and shoot accurately are metaphorically priceless to me as ronaldo demonstrates week after week at Manchester United.. As a dealer I'd never pay premium price for the relatively commonplace. Only for the unusual and what I cannot easily get elsewhere.
Hullfox Posted 27 January 2008 Posted 27 January 2008 Even great managers get it wrong as Wenger might be wondering right now with Walcott and I'm damned sure Peter Taylor did with Akinbiyi. Not many people could quote the name Peter Taylor in a sentence including the words Great Manager. I'm not also sure that Mr Wenger would describe his purchase of Theo Walcott as a mistake.

Can't disagree with your first sentence - original post amended! Obviously I wouldn't want to second guess Wenger but would he risk £12million today? I'd doubt it. I remember the last time Walcott came here with Southampton and how relatively easily he was kept quiet. To me, being a winger is a confidence postion, and I'm not sure Walcott's ever really had a chance to build his confidence at Arsenal because even when he's done quite well he's been sidelined afterwards through injury or whatever.

Fair play. I think that the clock is probably still running with Walcott at the moment but Wenger does have an incredible knack of making players turn from ordinary to extraordinary at the flick of a switch. Now had you mentioned Francis Jeffers, I doubt that even I would have argued.

There's no doubt some talents seem to blossom briefly, like some rare cacti, yet are never seen in the same light again. Your being Hull based I'd mention Nick Barmby.

He's a happier lad living at home, I know that for a fact. Allegedly his wages are £30k a week (sponsored by a local business). I think he lost his hunger and his injuries just followed. Burnham may have a different view though.

Cobbo Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Bournemouth are 2-0 against Forest at the moment and Gradel set up both goals. Good lad!

Nationwider Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Report on the Forest/Cherries game from a Tree perspective Bournemouth started brightly and nearly took the lead on 12 minutes when the electrifying Max-Alain Gradel toyed with Forest full-back Luke Chambers before sending a cross towards Vokes which Paul Smith managed to claw away with his fingertips. Five minutes later Gradel caused more havoc in the Forest penalty area when his free-kick found Vokes whose thumping header was tipped over athletically by Smith. French winger Gradel beat Chambers, crossed to the far post and teenage striker Vokes climbed above Kelvin Wilson to head into the bottom right-hand corner. Chambers was enduring a torrid afternoon facing Gradel and the on-loan Leicester player turned him once more on 35 minutes before progressing towards goal but lashed his finish over. The torment continued for Forest into the second half as the Frenchman turned inside Chambers and Wes Morgan on 50 minutes only to toe his finish narrowly wide. Bournemouth goalkeeper Gareth Stewart was beaten by Cohen's centre, but the ubiquitous Gradel had managed to get back in time to clear the danger, in what was a thoroughly miserable afternoon for the visitors.
Dames Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I still maintain that this is doing him the world of good and it would be too hasty to call him back as of yet. I'm hoping he can really step up to the plate next season. If Ollie keeps him that is.
Joe. Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 At this current moment in time I'd love Gradel in our team. I don't care if it's only League One he's been playing at, he can't be any worse than Hume at the moment. Sounds like he causes defences problems, exactly what we need. Get him back Ollie.
Mark Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 3) Bournemouth's number 17 was a fantastic left winger called Max Gradel who was by far the best player on the park. He is on a season long loan from Leicester, two junctions and 20 odd miles from Nottingham. Why oh why oh why are we not in the market for such a player? I agree the loan is doing him good, I'm just majorly pissed off Ollie didn't even look at him in a match before sending him back out on loan when we're so short of wingers, there is no excuse.
Thracian Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I wish you wouldn't remind me of Gradel after the shit I've just watched.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I've been critical of Gradel's attitude in the past but I think we should be looking at bringing him back now. He's not the youngest of youngsters anymore and it does sound like he's making a decent impression in a division we're not far off ourselves. If he's not ready to play for us now I don't think he ever will be.
Dames Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I wish you wouldn't remind me of Gradel after the shit I've just watched. I know its hard but the kid has taken massive strides and made a fair bit of progress during the course of the season. I don't think he would have made any progress if he stayed here. He would have been drafted into our piss poor midfield we have pre january and it would have shattered his confidence. Would he really have stood out? Or would he have to have been limited because of the way our team plays? He would then probably spend the rest of the season playing reserve football like Andy King seems set to.

He's doing the business in a team threatened by relegation as well - like ourselves, Bournemouth were a team that looked relegated a few weeks ago until Max went back on loan. I know it's not all down to him, but he's obviously got the right attitude and is handling the pressure well. We must recall him if there is an option to and we can't find anyone else to play that position (well).

I think most people who saw him play last season or the season before last would say that his attitude/temperament was questionable, and that was in a successful side. Maybe recent events in his life have changed the way he goes about his business for the better.

Or would he have to have been limited because of the way our team plays? He would then probably spend the rest of the season playing reserve football like Andy King seems set to. There is much in what you say because he, like King and others need a properly capable and integrated side around them. I've mentioned so many times our lack of pace and passing from the back and now we've even got proven midfielders like Clemence and Oakley looking ordinary because they are forever being by-passed. And even when they receive the ball there is not the proper support around them. Just look at it: Laczko doesn't even know where abouts to play. I've talked before about full-backs making themselves available for the "out" ball. Well good wingers do the same in midfield. But Laczko wasn't available. He was anywhere but where he should be for too much of the time, cramping our own space. Mattock didn't make himself available for one throw-out from the goalkeeper not did he overlap Laczko or give him passes to feet and move for the return. Why? Because he had enough trouble dealing with a fastish and direct winger. So he wasn't going to help the midfielders. Hume was on the right, not a natural winger or even the most natural passer. Willing, energetic but a bodge job really in that position. Stearman too, while dealing well enough with his winger, didn't get forward in support much and didn't pass well. So where were we going? Nowhere most of the time, sadly. Today's approach to a football match looked a shambles. Even had we humped the ball up to Howard, there was no pacey runner to benefit from his flicks until later and Hayles spent much of his time foraging back into midfield than providing genuine support for Howard, not that he's fast enough or fit enough to offer the right support anyway. One day we will get a manager at this club who will give our team a style of play and surround himself with players who will fit into that style and understand it. We have two types of player right now, the pass and move types, many of them young like Weso, Gradel, King, Shush! if he still counts as ours, Mattock when given the freedom but also including the likes of Oakley, Clemence and even N'Gotty though the moving bit gets harder for him. We've also got the functional or industrial players like Kisnorbo, McAuley, James Chambers, Hume, Howard, Hayles and, I imagine, our new left back. Stearman can fall into either category depending on his mood. Our constant problem is that the one style isn't mixing well with the other. It's like oil and water with the consequence that we're not a hardcase, attrition side full of harriers and we're not a passing side full of pace, skill and movement. We're mongrels and no less so now than we were under our other recent managers.
dandannieldanok Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 The Mail on Sunday are waxing lyrical about him in the small match report they give.
