Ric Flair Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Gradel's scoring record is impressive, it always has been at every level. We need a player like that in our midfield, but i'm also wise enough to know that he'd probably get villified with some of the stuff he is reknown for doing. A season at a lower league club is exactly what he needs for him to convince us (a team with Premiership aspirations) that he can score goals, provide assists and be an absolute nuisance for the opposition. I reckon he's got every chance of doing that for us and this spell at Bournemouth has already improved his game. He'll be good competition for Bori or whoever else next season. Bori's been playing for the best team in Hungary at present and has been called up to the Hungary squad recently who seem to be on a re-juvinated spell, so Bori is hardly coming from a questionable background in football other than he's never played in England before. But neither has Busaky, Halmosi, Fulop, etc before they came over to England.
Thracian Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Thracian I will bet you a fortune thats not accurate. I don't know that Wikipaedia is ever 100% accurate and if you can find more reliable statistics I'd welcome them.
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 I don't know that Wikipaedia is ever 100% accurate and if you can find more reliable statistics I'd welcome them. Wikipedia is very inaccurate when it comes to Eastern European leagues, especially in regards to apperances. They miss off alot of games.
Ric Flair Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 There's some good points in this debate. But I still fail to understand why, with our team clearly struggling to score enough goals for season after season, we consistently avoid playing the people who could put that right in favour of others who can't. Mute point, but it's not as simple as that. Perhaps Holloway said to Gradel 'Do you want to stay here and try and force your way in to the team this season? Or go back out to Bournemouth, get some more experience and really get to grips with first team football' Gradel may have chosen the latter as he feels it's good for his development and as Holloway has hardly seen him, he's probably agreed that he's better served there until the end of the season. Martin Allen didn't give Gradel a go, Megson thought it was best he stayed at Bournemouth and now Holloway appears to be in agreement. That doesn't mean they are right or that Gradel isn't ready, but i'm struggling to see what the big problem is here. Bori has looked good in the past two games. We are unbeaten at home in 4 games. Gradel is getting better and better. Things for once, seem to slowly be improving. The past is gone, let's hope the lack of goals is a thing of the past.

Looking at MTK Hungaria's Official Site. Bori has scored 5 goals this season. They've only played 15 games as well and i'm not sure whether Bori has played in all of those. He is joint 2nd Top Scorer for them this season. I'll try to find out what his record has been in previous seasons. 1 in 3 ain't bad.
The People's Hero Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Yep, you send them out to prove a point. Both Dodds and Gradel have gone out with a point to prove. Gradel has apparently, really caught the eye. Dodds has not done quite so well, but seems to be getting regular football (albeit in a struggling team) so can perhaps be confident of a career in football, although that looks extremely doubtful at Leicester now. I think this can only do Gradel good. IH will get him back after this season and have a proper look in pre-season. If he makes the grade (in IH's opinion) then great -if not, it appears there will be no shortage of offers from elsewhere. Is Osbourne does come in (or any other midfielder) and Weso gets himself properly match fit we could probably let King go on loan to League one/two too, if there are any takers, with the option of an immediate recall if needed. This is a pretty reasonable post, I thought. Can we all agree to agree on the above? None of us really know how Dodds/Gradel would do at this level. But both are getting experience at a lower level, which is beneficial as it's the highest level they've played at.
ronnup Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 while playing just one division below ours big difference
Thracian Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Ugh the guy literally never gives up, you beat one 'Thrac Stat' and he'll wheel out another to base his arguement upon.Okay. Gradel is something i'll give him that. He's currently on loan, ok? Getting first team experience and doing well which is doing no harm, Got that? Just because he's on loan doesn't mean he's gunna get bombed out. Unlike Dodds, Porter and Sheehan (God) he has something about him. Bori has been in english football for 2 games and has given a decent account of himself. Not all wingers are gunna be like Gradel and are gunna score every odd game, get used to it thats how football is these days. So, Gradel is on loan getting experience which will benefit him, Get over it. It will do that lad good in the long run. Just imagine if he was dragged into that piss poor midfield we had before the new year. It would have destroyed his confidence and made him look like a poor player. Your comments about Dodds, Porter and Sheehan are predictable enough yet Porter has been quite badly missed this season in several ways and Sheehan's still considerable contribution discussed many times. As for Gradel he's already playing in a piss-poor team. He's doing fine and why, if modern football makes it unlikely that wingers aren't going to score so much (a debate on its own) you would then choose to prefer a non-scorer to a scorer I don't know. Anyway, Gradel's out on loan, Holloway's played his hand for what might be the best intentions and we'll see if Gradel stays or disappears into the distance as a consequence. I just wish I could have the same faith in the alternatives as you do.

Seven goals in the last seven games and six in the seven games before that - it's not quite what I had in mind when I was touting for Keegan/Ince/Newell. However I'd agree that things looked more promising with the signing of Howard though I but can't understand why we've then ditched one of the blokes who could supply him with ammo. I guess my approach to attacking has always been 100%. I've been Keeganesque in attitude all my sporting life and want to see genuine attacking potential in every positiion. However, I hadn't realised we'd gone four games unbeaten at home which is a heartening turn for the better. Perhaps more goals will come with more confidence but I still feel we've got to appreciate what produces goals and stop doing things which hinder that aim.

Bori looked like he's more than capable of getting the crosses in for Howard, in fact if I remember rightly, Howard should really have put a few more a way against Coventry from the crosses supplied by Bori and Laczko. Looking forward to Monday, I think the Hungarians will be out to impress in front of the cameras.

Thracian Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 I see Gradel was down for two goals last night according to the BBC and national press. Which brings his tally to 7 for the season.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 I see Gradel was down for two goals last night according to the BBC and national press. Which brings his tally to 7 for the season. That's wrong. He only scored once. The most impressive part of his stay there for me is that Bournemouth fans say his workrate is excellent. I think we're onto a definite winner with this boy - I just hope Holloway is taking notice.

As for Holloway taking notice, there's no signs of it. I'll just be interested to see how many goals/assists we get from the wings by May 4. So far since August 11 the tally looks pretty thin. I wonder if Gradel gets the City programme. It looks funny to see his name among our squad with no games and no goals. I wonder how that will look in years to come.

Gradel can come into the side next season, we will not go down or up this season so as far as i'm concerned my two aims for the rest of the season would be to bring some sort of balance and cohesion to the team and for any promising youth players t oget as much first team action as possible. I think Gradel is better off playing 90 mins week in week out rather than sitting on the bench here.

STUHILL Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Anyone else bored by this topic yet??....If this rambles on for another 4 pages, then I am jumping!!
sam_lcfc Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 I know people are getting annoyed with all the chat, but Gradel really is impressing everybody down at Bournemouth. My cousin is a Bournemouth season ticket holder and he says he his consistently the best player on the pitch. Pace, work-rate, composure, goals and a silly haircut!!! He says if we were to recall him they would go down, no question! but he also says the Bournemouth fans have been told there is no recall clause, meaning he is there for the season comewhatmay.
MPH Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Looking at how Gradel appears to be getting on i can only assume him being at Bournmouth still is linked with a comment Holloway made concerning Hayes' loan move. he said somthing along the lines of " we cant expect the lad to be ready for the championship at the age of 20" Gradel is of course younger than Hayes. Thats the only reason i can possibly think of. Not saying it is the right decision and a somewhat puzzling explanation because he is playing Mattock regularly at the age of 17...
