At this stage we don't know how much the bid is for, between 1 and 9 million though. If the offer was silly - 5 mill plus we should let him go.

Everyone has got a price at the end of the day

If it was more than £2 million i'd be amazed if we'd turn it down anyway. I rate Mattock, but that sort of cash for a relatively un-proven youngster would be too much for Mandaric to turn down IMO.

yep your probably right. I think he is worth 2.5 mill max at this stage. he is no where near as good as Bale, and they are similar ages and position

If Mandaric can afford it I'd like to see him tell them to piss off no matter how good the deal is just to, well just!!!!!!

I could imagine us selling if a bid of 2 million plus came with add-ons and a selling on fee. I mean I wasn't at the Coventry game, where he seems to have played very well, but he's been average at best this season. On the other hand, as I've been arguing with the case of Hume and Kisnorbo, when you are trying to re-build a side it is a good idea to hang on to the good players yo already have, limits the disruption and cost. It will also be good to see him in a decent side for once, always a better environment for a youngster to be blooded into a side.

I'm pleased to hear this, but I wonder how Mattock feels.

He'll not be bothered one bit. He'll be happy that he's been recognised as a great prospect, but he's a Leicester fan and is more concerned with playing football than being signed up by a bigger club through hype and potentially stunting his devlopment as a footballer by going back to Academy or Reserve football.

Tbh if he wants to further his career and become a better player he should stay with us for the next two years or so as he will be getting plenty of first team experience at a key time in his career. Otherwise he will end on either reserves or benching warming if he was to leave now.

Especially now he's got some footballers in front of him.

To be fair - he will be doing that at Leicester soon. Ollie has already stated he looking for an experienced left back.

True, but if he strings a few more performances like Saturday together he'll still be in the reckoning.

Also I wish people would stop calling every defender we have slow. Mattock's probably the fastest of the lot, I think its just his reaction time that needs improving slightly. A fair few times he has to catch up with someone from a standing start.

It was always going to take a while for Mattock to grow into the role (he's only 17!) and we saw that when he first appeared at the end of last season (how long would he have had to have waited under RK i wonder), and he's still got a lot of growing and development as a player to go.

What's more I think it's a good thing that one of our potentially brightest players is from the city... either way a time could well come (if he's as good as some folks seems to think) when both the club's and his interests will be best served by selling him... but I think that days a little way off yet.

Thanks, I'm glad someone noticed it! I was toying with Oakley Bacon too.

Do It!

He's not exactly quick off the mark though and that's fine if your defence has pace elsewhere, which it hasn't really. I'm not saying Mattock is slow, but his speed is more dangerous when he's covered 20 or 30 yards, but off the mark he is often left behind by wingers and strikers. Quite similar to Kisnorbo in that respect. McAuley is just always slow and Stearman is another whose neither quick nor slow, we need at least one defender who is quick to mop up if we defend high up the pitch and the ball breaks free in behind us.

Kisnorbo does that all the time. He's actually fairly pacy when he needs to be.

Our defensive record suggests we don't need to touch the defence, and if we do it'll be a left-back we get in.

Hurrah! We kept Mattock! Now let's get rid of all the ones that ARE useless, even if we can get 100k a piece that'd be an extra million in the coffers! :)

Leicester turn down Mattock bid

Leicester City owner Milan Mandaric has confirmed to BBC Radio Leicester they have turned down a substantial bid for England Under-21 defender Joe Mattock.

The highly-rated 17-year-old left-back has been the target of an unnamed Premier League club.

Mandaric said it was good to get a strong bid but they were not interested in selling their best players.

"We would like to keep players like that. We are putting priority not on finance but to get a winning team."

I'm glad we've been strong enough to turn it down, it's not like we need the money desperately. Mattock is fairly inconsistent at the moment but is definitely one for the future. Unless he wants to go, we don't need to sell him to anyone. :D

I'm still to be convinced, I believe our defensive record has been good in patches because of the amount of defensive players that have been in our team. I've seen us be massively exposed at times this season and the lack of pace does bother me.

I hope now that we have more outlets in midfield and attack that the defence can concentrate on what they do best though, which is defending and playing the simple balls to the midfield and let them dictate play.

I've seen so many times this season that our centre halves and full backs are the players that have the most of the possession for us and never know what to do with it, so it just goes long and we waste the possession. That didn't happen on Saturday and it meant that we weren't under any undue pressure and we could keep our shape. This is because we now have 2 quality central midfielders and 2 wingers who will always be looking for the ball to drive forward.

Good news that we have turned down the bid. He is only 17 and is likely to get a lot better especially have some good player around him like Oakly and Zsolt should make a difference to his game.

If we are looking to build a side to go into the premiership then I see no reason why he cant make the right back position his own. So why sell him now so he can keep another premiership sides bench warm for a couple of season and we then have to shell out £3 million to get a half decent premiership left back plus no doubt higher wages than Mattock is on, agents fees ect ect.

Mattock is a Leicester lad and no doubt will put in more effort for the side he supports than another player we bring in.

I see absolutely no reason to sell him. If we are thinking of cashing in we should wait a couple of years and his value will have shot up if his development keeps on track.
