BigGibbo Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 He's quality & will continue to get better far better than anything else we've got & if Fulops left in the sunderland reserves for the rest of the season I think we'll get him back on the cheap in the summer.
DBEightyFive Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Is there a goalkeeper anywhere in the world who is 100% accurate 100% of the time? Every goalkeeper in the world can distribute poorly at some point in time
Joe. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008  One game where he had nothing to do? It's way too early to make a judgement yet. Give him a bit of time to settle and I'm sure he'll do fine.
LeeCovFox Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 One game. Clean sheet.Get a grip. Get a grip? M y post was a supportive one, in reaction to some criticism that I have seen on here. I think the lad will be a good signing for us. There is no real criticism in my post, other than suggesting his kicking can, and most likely will improve. Being a little oversensitive methinks.
Boycie Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I didn't think it would be long before someone started to slag one of the new signings off. Alnwick looked very comfortable with his handling, I wouldnt care if he made a few mistakes as long as he keeps the ball out of the net.
Rt Hon Percy Longprong Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 After watching saturdays game and having a good old look at all the new signings, i must say i'm impressed with all but one.Ben Alnwick. Did anyone else notice how poor his kicking was? Also his lack of communication with the back four? And his stuttering nature when the ball came into the box? Now i know the lad is young and it was his first game, and i'm more than prepared for him to prove me wrong next weekend at Norwich. But i am concerned. Maybe its because of the high standard we got from Fulop, but i honestly don't feel confident with that kid on our goal at the moment. Fulop inspired us, made us feel like it was going to take a great ball into the box or a quality finish for the opposition to score. I felt on saturday everytime they got any half decent towards our goal, he looked like he was panicking. Just wondering if anyone else had these views or concerns? And before you start i'm not saying drop him, just raising some concerns. Spurs paid £1 million + FULOP for Alnwick.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I thought he was OK considering he had fook all to do all game. I thought his kicking was ok as well. I'm a big huge fan of Fulop and I thought Alnwicks kicking may have been slightly better than Fulop. BTW, I hope Sunderland stay up, otherwise I think Gordon may move on, leaving Fulop as their No. 1.
maddog Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 No keeper we get would replace Fulop. He made a lot of world class saves with us, the saves of the likes of Cech, Reina, Green,Casillas, any top level keeper would have struggled to make. Maybe Fulop just had some good games because he did start flapping around a bit when trying to catch crosses in his last few games. Any keeper we get now will look poor compared to Fulop so i say get Fulop back No keeper could have played as well as Fulop did with us. Anyone name a keeper we could get better than Fulop at £3m? There won't be many, maybe another in hungary somewhere
Guest Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Just wondering if anyone else had these views or concerns? Nope.
vim23 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Had a sound debut in my opinion. Hardly had anything to do and the mix up with Stearman should have been wellied out long before it got anywhere near him.
danny. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 WTF??? his kicking was much better than Fulop's. The mixup was clearly stearmans fault for pissing around with it. Other than that I can't comment as he didn't have a single shot of any note to stop.
Rocky Dennis Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Shocking!! What kind of fans criticise a young lad on his debut in a game he had absolutely sod all to do? Get a life.
Father Ted Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 True, The defence held a good line all game giving him little if not nothing to do. A good line? At the way we played the line that game you would have thought that we were arsenal and the way we passed the ball.
Jack Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Jesus, Give the poor lad a chance. He is a good keeper I watched him when he was at Sunderland and rate him. You have to think of it as if he is shite why would he be at Spurs. He's had one game and already people are on his back. One game and he had nothing to do apart from a mix-up which was Stearmans fault for a start. Tbh I thought his kicking was pretty good but others obviosuly don't. Aslong as he keeps the goals from going in im not too bothered about his kicking. Take Fulop for example he was brilliant in goal and he had a shite kick, doesn't make him any less of a good keeper though.
WetFlannel Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 What a ridiculous thread... Fulops kicking was hardly spectacular, and any defender will tell you, long kicks put them under pressure. Seemed good in my opinion. Clean sheet anyone?
Filberts lovechild Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 WTF???his kicking was much better than Fulop's. The mixup was clearly stearmans fault for pissing around with it. Other than that I can't comment as he didn't have a single shot of any note to stop. 100% agree! Why would you start a post about someone who has just made his home debut, barely had anything to do all game, ok had a mix up at the back but only been here 5 mins so communication with the defence may not be the best yet. His kicking was pretty special on Saturday, he can proper launch them so will be good when we are playing hoofball to howard! Hendo is piss poor IMO, as are the rest of them. Stick Ollie on the bench as sub keeper IMO he could do a better job than the other crap! Alnwick - Reasonable home debut, hopefull it will all turn out gravy!

I know it isn't measureable but didn't Spurs bring in Alnwick when they let Fulop go?

potter3 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Spurs paid £1 million + FULOP for Alnwick. Think it was £500K No keeper we get would replace Fulop. He made a lot of world class saves with us, the saves of the likes of Cech, Reina, Green,Casillas, any top level keeper would have struggled to make. Maybe Fulop just had some good games because he did start flapping around a bit when trying to catch crosses in his last few games. Pardon?
Head Honcho Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I think Spurs payed about 900k + Fulop for Alnwick. I think his part in that "roasting" took a few bob off of his value too
Super Arj Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 he hasn't conceded so whats the facking problem
Nationwider Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I wasn't at the game but Barber pronounced it as ''Annick''?perhaps that is the correct pronunciation but it sounded odd. It probably is the correct pronounciation, although people can say their surname however they want at the end of the day. Alnwick is a town in Northumberland, and it is pronounced "Annick" locally, just as Berwick is pronounced "Berrick". Alnwick is also one of the locations in which the Harry Potter films were shot. Go ahead, impress your friends with that beaut!
