mat_j101 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Two things I noticed. 1) He does a weird kneel thing after every kick off the ground. 2) Having got used to Fulop in goal, he looked small! I noticed that, but assumed it was that the pitch was a bit dodgy and he was slipping slightly and just trying to keep his balance.
DBEightyFive Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 He's been in goal for one game, only signed mid last week so won't even know many of the players names, has gone from playing infront of maybe a few hundred people in Spurs reserves to over 20,000 at Leicester...give the lad a chance. If we had never had Fulop and had been playing Henderson all season and brought Alnwick in, he would've been god but Fulop is a very big ask to follow...especially after only one game!!
mancunianfox Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Why do Leicester fans always have to have something to moan about? It was the lads debut for us and he kept a clean sheet. Can we not just be happy that we played well enough not to have to worry about the keeper having to pull of Gordon Banks-esque wondersaves???

Can we not just be happy that we played well enough not to have to worry about the keeper having to pull of Gordon Banks-esque wondersaves??? I wasnt moaning, i was asking if anyone else felt concerned about him. I was hoping it was just the fact that i'd got used to the high standards of keeping from Fulop. I want the lad to be a top draw keeper and i want him to go on and show me how good he is next weekend at Norwich. I was just wondering if anyone else spotted what i spotted.
Thracian Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 After Fulop almost any goalkeeper would have raised concerns. And while I've no idea if Fulop is really coming back, while people keep hankering after him, I doubt anyone else will be good enough. I don't know how anyone could judge Alnwich on Saturday's performance. His one cock-up could have happened to any goalkeeper at any time, particularly when a guy was new to the club. Otherwise he had very little to do and criticising his kicking seems a bit rich considering Fulop's kicking and distribution is awful, by far the worst aspect of his game. There was one thing I did like about Alnwick though. A clean sheet. Yes, he was lucky once but doubtless he'll deserve a clean sheet another day and be unlucky. We'd all have taken "zero goals against" before the kick-off.
stevec Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 After watching saturdays game and having a good old look at all the new signings, i must say i'm impressed with all but one.Ben Alnwick. Did anyone else notice how poor his kicking was? Also his lack of communication with the back four? And his stuttering nature when the ball came into the box? Now i know the lad is young and it was his first game, and i'm more than prepared for him to prove me wrong next weekend at Norwich. But i am concerned. Maybe its because of the high standard we got from Fulop, but i honestly don't feel confident with that kid on our goal at the moment. Fulop inspired us, made us feel like it was going to take a great ball into the box or a quality finish for the opposition to score. I felt on saturday everytime they got any half decent towards our goal, he looked like he was panicking. Just wondering if anyone else had these views or concerns? And before you start i'm not saying drop him, just raising some concerns. Football is great because different people can see opposite things about situations! Alnwick is actually renowned for his kicking - ie its good. From what I saw of it - it will be spot on with Howard up front (and Hume) - very direct and very long. Fulops weakest strength was his kicking - short and wide! As for judging the rest of his game - impossible as never had a save to make. Just 1 mixup with the defender - but he never played with them before.
Daggers Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Rumours that Fulop is joining on a permanent deal before the end of January anyway from those in the know on TB. This is an unsubstanciated word-of-mouth rumour. There's nothing to it ATM.

Super Arj Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 a mix up, stearman should have got it he shouldnt have waited for Alnwick to get there

Blue Bob Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 From what I remember of him, in the first half he put one goal kick straight into touch and he took one goal kick too quickly which went straight through to their keeper. Other than that the mix up that nearly caused the goal was down to the defence who should have put the ball into row z instead of expecting Alnwick to deal with it. The rest of his kicking was pretty good, Howard had some joy but their centre half was a big lad and he won some of them too .... but that was not down to Alnwicks kicking. There were a couple of corners that he got, and a few through balls he dealt with easily, his positional play was good. Other than that he had very little to do. So first game, clean sheet, couple of minor gaffs but absolutely nothing to worry about. Glad he is here.
Rich Fox Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I think his big mistake (that resulted in a cov open goal, that they missed ) was due to him being new and not quite knowing what it was that stearman/mcauley were going to do. Give him a few weeks! He did once or twice, he seems to do that weird kind of dropping onto one knee when he kicks too That lloked like stearmans fault to me , he was standing right next to the ball with adebola closing in and expected alnwick to run ten yards to clear it. definately slack defending from stearman buy im not moaning cus i thought he had a decent game also.
LeeCovFox Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I agree 100% mate.Fulop gave the back 4 great faith and confidence. When you have a great player between the posts as a defender you can be more assured in your play, knowing someone like Fulop is there to back you up if needed. I'm sure Alnwick is a great on for the future but we really need Fulop back to make our team complete. I hope Alnwick is just a fire fighting measure by Ollie with view to a more experienced keeper taking the role in the long term. I think maybe some people are being a little unfair. I was at the game and although I can't claim that he filled me with confidence, it takes time to build a relationship with a defence to the extent that you can command it effectively. Also, his youth makes that perhaps more difficult still. Give the load a few games and I'm sure he will be fine. As for his distribution, yes at times it was slightly suspect, but that is something that can be taught, and that I'm sure will be. I fwe spotted it in the stands, then be sure that Ollie did too.

wirralsimon Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Give the poor bloke a chance! I think you were expecing a bit much from a young keeper playing his first game for the club. Simon

DB11 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 He did very good. Logan, Henderson and Fulop's kicking were all woeful when they joined the club. Look at them now, they can all kick a lot better so our GK staff must be doing something right! The communication will come when he gets to know, and is more confident with, the back four in front of him. His catching and punching when the ball came in the box were all very good so I do not see where you are coming from with that point.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Poor kicking? Not sure where that comes from... he found Howard on a number of occassions. As others have said though it's far too early to make a judgement either way. Coventry did f**k all to test him.The only thing I noticed was that he never kicks out of his hands. Just an observation. That's exactly what I said
Dames Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Is it in Leicester fans blood or what? No matter how good a keeper is they always pick out the kicking? Who gives a shit aslong as he keeps the ball out of the net? Really... Not all kicks are gunna lead to 1 on 1s.
Candidcamera Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 No - he looked good. The thing that pleased me was that he was commanding.
Thracian Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 That's exactly what I said He's by no means the only goalkeeper who always kicks with the ball on the floor and it surprises me. seems like there's far more chance of a calamity kicking off the floor, either through the standing foot slipping or through topping the ball and hitting it low to a waiting forward.

Also, Fulop wasn't brilliant on his first game, he was good yes but he got better as the season went on.
