MikeyT Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 From The Blue Army: Ian Holloway believes his makeshift Leicester City side at Norwich on Saturday underlines the need for even more new faces. The City manager has brought in six new players since the transfer window opened. There was almost a seventh but the loan spell of Isaiah Osbourne from Aston Villa has been delayed. However, a reshuffled City pack had to hang on by their fingernails for the 0-0 draw at Carrow Road. City were without only two of the side who did so well in the previous outing against Coventry - Patrick Kisnorbo and Stephen Clemence. But it was a very different performance and Holloway admitted it was a point City did not really deserve. The two Hungarian wingers, Zsolt Laczko and Gabor Bori, so impressive on their debuts, found the pace and strength of the opposition a little much. But Holloway pointed out that, with James Wesolowski in for Clemence and Brino N'Gotty for Kisnorbo, the team basically picked itself. He said: “We have still got to strengthen. Lack of options is inhibiting me quite severely at times. “The game was ideal for Osbourne but he was taken back, which was quite strange. “I think his braces got caught in the door at the Villa training ground and, as soon as he arrived here on Friday, he went straight back again!” Osbourne was recalled by Villa because of injury problems for their trip to Anfield tonight. But the 20-year-old midfielder could be joining City later this week. As for more new arrivals, City have not put in another bid yet for Plymouth midfielder David Norris. He asked for a transfer last week because, it is understood, he wants to be reunited with Holloway. Ipswich are keen on him too and they are reported to have had a £1.5million offer turned down. That is a fee that City are unlikely to stretch to but, if Norris has made his move so he can come to City, they might not have to. The Suffolk club's other main target at the moment is City defender Gareth McAuley. They had the Irishman under close scrutiny at Carrow Road on Saturday but no offer has yet been forthcoming Holloway prefers to add to his squad rather than let anyone go and, although big changes have been made already, Saturday showed even more may be needed to improve the strength in depth.
Calum McDermott Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 I hope soooo!!! we definitely need another decent CM and another decent winger, A left back because, we can't rely on young Mattock all the time and even Cb wouldn't go a miss because, we need back up for kis n mcauley.
Joe. Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 We need a new left back, that's for sure. Mattock's doing OK, but I don't think he's ready for first team football in the Championship just yet. And I don't think Sheehan's good enough either.
sdb Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Norris + Osbourne + Left Back = very tidy squad (+ a lot of excess crap)
Staf Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 I think he is absolutely right we do need some more new players in certain positions and we definetly need cover in alot of positions lets hope ollie hurrys up only 10 days to go i think
Steven Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Norris + Osbourne + Left Back = very tidy squad (+ a lot of excess crap) Norris gone to Ipswich. Do keep up.
sdb Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Norris gone to Ipswich. Do keep up. just rumour no??
Dames Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 We still need 2 decent back up wingers. A good left back, Mattock is okay but i doubt he can maintain a decent level of performance at his age for a whole season yet and Sheehan is just well Sheehan, Good free kick offers little else. A pacy centerback. Permanent Goalkeeper.
WetFlannel Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Alnwick on permanent... Just to avoid another farce for goalkeepers
oldbluefox Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Have just checked Plymouth Argyle's website and Ipswich Town's and there's nothing reported yet so how certain can we be?

DB11 Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 If the only position we strengthen from now until the end of the season is left back I will be delighted!
Thracian Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 If the only position we strengthen from now until the end of the season is left back I will be delighted! Unless all those who went to Norwich are lying, together with the much maligned John Barber, I'd think we'll need to strength more than the left back position seeing as we hardly had a kick to speak metaphorically. Besides, it's not many games ago Stearman was the worst full-back in Britain and Chambers the best. Seems to me it might help if we had any 11 players who were collectively fit but we seem a long way friom that and if you lot are all convinced we've now got world-beating wingers I'm bloody sure I'm not.

The problem is that unless the team is dominating the game wingers can be a liabilty. Maybe Holloway will revise his plans for away games until these two learn the English way.
Guest Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Holloway prefers to add to his squad rather than let anyone go To be honest, there is some letting go that needs to be done....
Shrenchel Posted 22 January 2008 Posted 22 January 2008 If the only position we strengthen from now until the end of the season is left back I will be delighted! Really?! I completely disagree. Only takes a few injuries/suspensions and we're left with the pre-christmas line-up that wouldn't be able to beat the blind school.

Typical Thrac! The dirty foreigners aren't as good as your superkid wingers like Levi and Sheehan I suppose?! You cant knock the supporters in getting excited by a player after one game but so what if they didnt perform to their abilities at Norwich as its a team game anyway. They certainly aren't superstars as if they were they wouldn't be with us on loan but at least give them a chance to do well before you sling them on the scrapheap or almost hope they fail like you did with Kaebi. Lets see Ollie bring in a couple more faces as he plans so we can see more of "his team" and hopefully in the future weeks and months we can start to see a settled side who play decent football and more importantly climb up the league with good results.

As mentioned before you didn't complain at my rating of Laczko as close to MoM against Coventry and as Sheehan's a foreigner and Levi's of foreign extraction you make a nonsense of your own comment. Who's slung them on the scrapheap either? What nonsense. Laczko has had one great game and one appalling game. But there's no excuse for him being unfit or for us playing him when unfit. I've mentioned countless times about the folly of fielding unfit footballers and we never seem to learn. It's a disaster every time. That applies to unfit players wherever they come from. As for Kaebi if you can keep defending the guy then it's credit to your imagination or your refusal to see what's in front of your eyes if, indeed, you have ever seen him. If not then many on hear would say you've no right to comment. Actually they wouldn't. Different criteria would apply.

Read the Kaebi thread on the transfer section, Im not defending him but unlike you I don't make my mind up on a player before he has even kicked a ball for us and also wouldn't slaughter a player after one reserve game and carry the baton of Kaebi hatred for the next few months like you did! I always judge a player on his ability over the course of a few games in the first team and not what they achieved elsewhere so am not saying that Laczko is anything he isn't, especially as I haven't seen him play and wont get the chance until Monday but my problem with you is that if a foreigner or especially an external signing makes a mess of a game you seem to want to drum in the point too vigorously. Lets just see how all our players go and the manager for that matter after a run of games before making knee-jerk judgments hey????!!!!
Ultra Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 In truth, Thracian watched Kaebi many times in the reserves and was therefore able to suss him out long before the rest of us did. A lot of folk on here were ready to hail Laczko as a worldbeater and/or the best winger in decades on the basis of his performance in the Cov game. That level of hype was never going to do him any favours. His performance at Norwich, even allowing for his lack of fitness, should act as a reality check.
Tommy G Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 We need a LB, mattock isn't ready yet for first team football. sheehan isn't up to much either apart from dead balls.
