acooling08 Posted 22 January 2008 Posted 22 January 2008 i think we should sell fryatt because we have hume, howard up front plus backup with hayles, dj, sappleton and more.

Duno if anyone else heard this or anything??? Well the local paper in Northampton has been saying they are poised to make a "massive" signing but are waiting to see if the selling club sort out a replacement, so they don't expect it to be until the end of the window (if at all). Doesn't sound like us as Holloway has clearly pencilled in Howard, Hume and Hayles (the H-Force!) as his top three. Only thing I can think (if it is Fryatt) would be that Holloway is waiting to see if DJ is (a) fit and (b) any good. If so, I could see us letting Fryatt go. Incidentally, the Cobblers chairman also said this unnamed player would be one they could "build a team around" and would be a star for "many years to come". Hmmm. I can think of one or two FT regulars who would not share such high hopes if the player is indeed Mr Fryatt.

He's a capable player up to a certain level but the higher you go the more qualities like pace and strength matter.
Geo V Posted 22 January 2008 Posted 22 January 2008 This deal makes perfect sense. We turn down just under a million quid from Wolves and he has done OK since then but instead we are selling him to Northampton? When do we sign Rivaldo again?
Samilktray Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 If this is the case then it leaves one question... Is he still here?
lildave3 Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 If this is the case then it leaves one question...Is he still here? Nope, 2 questions. Why the extra T?
Blue Bob Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Cant see it myself, dont think he would want to drop a division. Have Northampton got £1m - £1.2m that he would cost?
MPH Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 What makes you think he's worth £1m+? i guess how much someone is worth and how much their going rate is in the transfer market can be different things.. his going rate is at least 1m if we turned down just under that from wolves...

Thracian Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Cant see it myself, dont think he would want to drop a division. Have Northampton got £1m - £1.2m that he would cost? Northampton are quite ambitious and £1m spent on Fryatt would probably turn out to be money well spent. There's little doubting Fryatt's a good enough goalscorer at that level - it's coping with the greater demands of Championship football that he seems to be lacking.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 I can't see it myself. He does fit the bill for what they've been mouthing off about, apart perhaps from the bit about being quick and able to get behind defences. But they are spending £200,000. I would like to think we could get a lot more than that for Fryatt and I don't think he would step down as low as Northampton. They are at the same level that Walsall were when he left them. You would imagine at least a top League One team would be interested. Having said that, he has a young family and maybe wants to stay in the area. Northampton have just obviously sold Bradley Johnson to Leeds for around £250,000 and also sold Andy Kirk who was on £4,000 a week but they are losing £40,000 a week so it's not like they can automatically chuck big money around. They certainly haven't got anywhere near £1million to spend.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Almost certain there is a sell on clause with walsall for fryatt.
STUHILL Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 It's always sad to see a player fail, but that is what has happened with fryatt so far. he hasn't been able to produce the goods on a consistent basis. There is one part of me that says lets sell now, but then the other part wants him to get one more chance to do something, especially now we have a better team. I would like to see him play a couple more games before the end of season. If he truely is a good player, then he should start scoring, no excuses tho. If not, then I would sell him in the Summer without a second thought. Hayles is 35 and been here weeks, yet already has looked more of a threat up front!
MikeyT Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 I cant imagine he would go to Northampton Town! He may have not set the world alight here but i thik he's certainly good enough for this division...cant imagine he would want to go there anyway!

It's hardly worth letting him go for £200.000. Might as well keep him as a spare til there's a better offer from someone or until his contract runs out.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 From what I've heard down here and read on the net I think their signing is probably Simon Cox. As an outside bet maybe Will Hoskins. Really don't see it being Fryatt in a million years.
The People's Hero Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Really don't see it being Fryatt in a million years. Me neither, by then it'll be all about Dodds. In fact, even he'll be a bit past it.
Kilworthfox Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 I think we should sell Matty as we have Elvis and he will take us to the playoffs with his pace and shooting ability
Fox You Forest Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 I think we should sell Matty as we have Elvis and he will take us to the playoffs with his pace and shooting ability There's rumours of a transfer to Man Utd for 8,000,000 though. So no playoffs for us.
