All I've seen are a few snaps of some idiots dressed up like Al Jolson and some allegations by tabloid journalists looking for a good story!

I've yet to hear any racist chanting, which I'm sure if it was going on to the extent it is being made out to be, would have been recorded.

Im too tired to search the net tonight mate but it showed "fans" laughing at Hamilton and he almost looked tearful the prat. I say prat as no man, woman or beast can say anything about me to make me as sad as he has got but its just a shame that in this day and age with a Black dude being touted as a possible president of the United States that the backward Spanish think that this type of behaviour is acceptable.

Seemingly not everyone has moved on.

The Hindu nationalist party RSS is not racist but very much fascist.Unfortunately these days every fascist organization is associated with Nazism and so racist, but this is certainly not the case.

All the BBC Sport report says is that they were "chanting nasty stuff and booing him when he made his way from the garage to the McLaren area at the back. We've never seen that at Formula One events" and "Reports in a number of Spanish papers said Hamilton was booed and insulted whenever he made his way from the team motor home and into the pits on Saturday for pre-season testing at the Barcelona circuit" and "the 23-year-old Briton was taunted by spectators during pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona".

It is slightly odd that none of the chants were referred to as "racist", the only racist thing I've actually seen anyone mention is the people dressed up as his "familly".

I'm not condoning any of the Spanish fans behaviour, but none of the reports I've seen has actually said that the majority of them were explicitly abusing Hamilton because of the colour of his skin rather than because of the rivalry he had with Alonso, apart from the "familly"

Personally I'd imagine a similar reaction if it had been, say, David Coulthard in Hamilton's place last year with the exception of the "familly".

It almost seems that because of those blacked-up idiots that the entire crowd is reported as racially abusing Hamilton.

Fair enough your quote does make it out to sound like he was racially abused by those in the wigs. But thats for people. I'm pretty sure we could find 4 people in Leicestershire who would quite happily racially abuse people in a verbal manner.

Lewis Hamilton, the British Formula 1 Racing Driver who was taunted by Spanish racists at the track in Barcelona last weekend, has appealed to his attackers for calm in a statement released today.

A group of five individuals blackened their faces and wore wigs to look like members of Hamilton's family, even scrawling the misspelt 'HAMILTON'S FAMILLY' on their white T-shirts. They heckled and booed the driver, because he finished ahead of Spanish favourite Fernando Alonso in last year's F1 Championship standings.

In his statement, Hamilton says that he was saddened by the attack, and by its ferocity, though, deep down, he wasn't that surprised or bothered, as he has never really liked Spaniards anyway.

Said Hamilton:

"Spics? They're greasy little turds. A hotch-potch mix of Latinos and Moors. 'Mongrels' is how I'd best describe them, or 'dogs', if I could be arsed."

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has fully endorsed Hamilton's comments, adding:

You have to remember that Max Mosley is the son of Oswald Mosley and as the saying goes the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. OK I'll take the bait...

I don't think that there is a (direct) link between Murdoch's expose of Mosley and the racist taunting of Hamilton in Spain. But just as I believe that there was more to 'The Screws' titillating scoop than boosting circulation I think there might well have been more to that little stunt in Herez than a second rate rate tribute to The Black And White Minstrels.

The incident itself looked very contrived to me with the 'jokers' conveniently within range of telephoto lens's. This website http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_new...es_art_id=33858 broke the story after it was given photo's of our bad taste comedians 'in the public interest' (its editor, Chris Balfe, surprise, surprise is now a minor celebrity). Why didn't the snapper go to the mainstream media direct and get a five figure pay-off for his scoop?

This story (within a matter of hours of 'pitpass' getting its pics) became the lead story on most of our news channels. Hamilton wasn't (and probably never will be) resident in the UK at the time and yet Gerry Sutcliffe, the UK Sports Minister, saw fit to protest to his opposite number in Spain about it.

Now a paranoid conspiracy theorist like your truly might just conclude that Bernie Ecclestone devised the whole stunt so that the Spanish GP would drop off the calendar to be replaced by er... a brand new spanking race at a circuit in Tibet that winds around Mount Everest before falling away and rising again around K2 (all under flood lights and sponsored by Marlboro).

Now, why would I make an accusation like that? Might it be because virtually every media outlet that ran with this bleedin' heart-liberal-moral panic-non story-of-the-century-so-far prefaced its remarks with the headline:

SPAIN MIGHT LOSE GP

So watch out for -

(i) More anti social Spanish antics in the lead up to Spain's GP

(ii) 'Bernie Ecclestone in Transylvanian Transsexual Tryst'

(iii) The BBC giving up its F1 rights after a couple of years so that it can focus more on programming for 'socially disadvantaged left handed African Caribbean lesbians collectives on the Isle of Lundy'

(iv) Lewis Hamilton taking time out to present Sky Sports News.

Remember folks just because F1 is a sport doesn't mean it's cricktet - if you get my meaning. After all, even cricket ain't cricket anymore.
