Simi Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 ... with pace, strength and height? Marcus Bent?
Bryn Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 With all three? Bent perhaps, otherwise Heskey is probably a good shout. Maybe Collymore. Deane and Ferdinand had two of the three I'd say. I always thought Sturridge was alright as well. Though judging by that list, having read it, I may be confusing the given attributes with just, Black Striker.
Joe. Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Heskey's certainly the one who had all three of those attributes and brought us the success to go with it.
Bryn Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Akinbiyi? Oh yeah. For all his faults pace, strength and height are three things he certainly did have.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 February 2008 Author Posted 10 February 2008 You get my point. Trev may not have had the best touch in the world but at least defenders knew when they'd been in a game with him. I'm not suggesting we can attract a player of the quality of Marcus Bent or Emile Heskey at the moment but our strikers are all one-dimensional. Even DJ nullifies the threat of his pace by having the worst anticipation of any striker I have ever seen.

And he did do a comedy attempt at a back header flick on yesterday where he got nowhere near to it.
LeeCovFox Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Oh yeah. For all his faults pace, strength and height are three things he certainly did have. Always felt a bit for the bloke to be honest. I've never thought he was a bad striker, and remember him scoring 25 goals for a Bristol City side that finished bottom of what was then Division One. He was a capable goalscorer, and I can only think that it was his fragile confidence which caused his poor form for us. He had chances certainly, and whatever level you are playing at, the goal is the same size. He always came across as a player who tried his heart out, and I think its a case of the tranfer fee having put him under pressure that he wasn't used to, and a manager who was incapable of boosting his confidence. Shame really, since joining us his career has been a shadow of what it once was. We weren't the only thing destroyed by Peter Taylor.

Think we could have got him for £2m - £3m if Taylor hadn't gone on about wanting him at any cost.
Super Arj Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 its not just about one striker we need a partnership.. with every good stiker he needs a good parnter eg. Henry scored most of his goals with bergkamp on his side obviously were not getting Henry, but i think ebanks blake would have been a much more suitable purchace than Howard.. Howard hasnt been impressive at all i think the last the last striker we had who had all those things was Marcus Bent.. but i think all we need is a good partnership like dickov and deane and we could be up there because if you think about it we pretty much have everything except Firepower up front

With all 3 and a geniune quality then i would say Marcus Bent was the last one we had.
Darkzzz_ Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Yes Bruno was the last striker we had. TBH i would have had Dickov back here!!
FilboFox Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Heskey... I would do anything to have him back here playing his best for the club he loves!
